I've thought of a new forum game, Rate how ugly that ship is! same rules as the Rate that ship game, except you rate them on how ugly they are, with 10 being ubelievably ugly and 1 being not ugly.
This game is in no means intended to be offensive to any designers of such ships that are on here. Please no one get offended by us calling these ships ugly. Thanks.
Ill start with this ugly ugly peice of plastic tat, Pride of America:
-
8/10, What on earth is with the bow!?
How about this:...
-
Oh, ghastly! Excellent job, 8/10! :D Any Norwiegan cruise line ship should be in this game, they are all unbearably ugly! Take a look at this one, Norwiegan Pearl:
-
That is pretty ugly! What about this, look at that bow:
-
uhh 10/10 ok this my last one
-
This is the most ugliest ship ever made in history. the 'al salam'
maritiem
-
Oh god no! How ugly, 11/10! What about this, hideous cruise ship that was a container ship, Costa Marina. I here its delightful inside though:
-
6/10..
I think i can beat that...
Pride of Bruges?
-
10/10, god knows why they made these ferrys rediculously ugly. Sister ship of Costa Marina, with same story, Costa Allegra:

[/quote]
I just wanted to post the same image
maritiem
-
That is pafetically ugly that one, 20/10! Ive got this, Finnjet:
-
Oh please, stop this useless topic.
NathanC, the Xbow ships are beautifull and they allso have great handling in heavy seas.
-
Oh please, stop this useless topic.
NathanC, the Xbow ships are beautifull and they allso have great handling in heavy seas.
That's your opinion ;)
And we are entitled to one too...
-
This is an entirely opinion based topic. If you do not think something is ugly, Post something uglier please. Like this, Disney Wonder:
-
5/10
Not too bad, plus it's hard to put down Disney. :D
(http://earthfirst.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/boat_solar.jpg)
-
Sorry I hate disney! and the bridge deck is really ugly. 6/10 for that boat, its no too ugly. But this is, well done, NCL, youve succesfully designed the most ugly cruise ship ever:
-
3/10 not ugly but functional
Another view of Storman Asia as Starman Asia (didn't take much reneming did it?)
also my ugly ship - Stena Britannica
-
9/10 - I was going to post a pic of her as well.
How about this one - Bugulma
-
1/10
She aint that ulgly, but functional.
I once saw this ship when I was sailing on the river Schelde.
She was going to pick up wind turbine parts in Vlissingen.
-
I actually think that all these cargo vessels and crane vessels are fuctional and arent even that ugly, like the rest of you said. Ill carry on with another pic, with a ship called verona:
-
maybe u knew the answer before i wrote 1/10 hehe
-
ehm wheres now the bow? and the stern? and wheres the bridge ?lol 10/10 no structure
-
The Russians have never been afraid to try something new..
Remember this ? The "flying ship" Ekranoplan.. ;D
-
Thats not ugly, it looks like something out of james bond! 2/10. This is ugly though, look at that forehead-Yuk:
-
Yes, I havnt seen such a bad colour design since the Norwich City football kit of the mid 90s, or Arsenals of 1991. But back to ugly ships, you have to look closely with this one:
-
Yuk! 10/10! I know its normal for those sorts of pushers, but 2bridges is still ugly! This P&O stena ship is ugly though aswell:
-
Now that's really fun!!! 1000/10! Weird proportions between the hull's height, lenght & the size of superstructure.
Is she a some kind of a dry cargo vessel or a specialized vessel?
sorry for late reply - no access at work! Yes she is a dry cargo vessel, built as a hopper. Often carries radioactive cargos into the Humber but I didn't say that ;)
Spruce - when you look at her history you'll see she was just a np pontoon until she was converted into a barge carrier
-
Thats a nice vessel?
3/10
has this one been given before
(http://media.shipspotting.com/uploads/thumbs_wm/rw/496418/Ship+Photo+Dont+know+what....jpg)
-
8/10, What on earth is with the bow!?
How about this:...
Actually it's called X-Bau and is cuts thru waves "smoother" tham a regular one.....
-
lol 10/10....
Pretty colors ::)
-
Honestly I think Pride of Rotterdam and the pride of hull are quite ugly. Too many flat sides, no Balconies, kind of reminds me of a prison ship! ;)
Oh by the way, I saw the post on the first page saying that all the NCL ships are ugly, I agree with that with the exception of the Norwegian Sun and the Norwegian Sky. I think they are the only two NCL ships that don't look like floating blocks.
-
Ill ust give you 8/10.

I actually agree there Mr flappy, what i dont get is why they made the bridge that really stupid shape they do, its just pafetic!
New one, might aswell be known as ss box, its the pride of bilbao:
-
I think that one is nice... Not soo ugly that peopel want it too... :D 1/10
(http://www.bassboatcarpets.com/images/bubba%20is%20this%20him.jpg)
;D
-
Hehe, the chair sais enough.
Alabama ;D
-
It even has an azipod.. ;D
-
8/10 It's like someone with a tiny head.
Okay, How about Carnival Fantasy. For a "Fun Ship" it looks pretty boring.
-
He he 8/10 cushioncraft for the floating table. Carnival have 7 other ships which are identical to Carnival Fantasy. all of them Are ugly of course! Here is another ugly cruise ship, MSC Poesia, which has a very ugly forecastle which is stupidly square as well as stupidly steep decks above the bridge:
-
5/10, I actually kind of think it looks cool.
What about Carnival Triumph. I don't really know why, I've just never liked the look of it.
-
The funnel should be squater but on a higher deck, the foward decks are too tall, it just is unbalanced-10/10!
Here is an ugly ferry, herald of free enterprise. this ship however sank, god rest her and all the passengers who went down with her. She was ugly, but she was no less a ship:
-
5/10, without being insensative, that is an ugly ship. Her sister is Pride of Bruges, which i posted on Page 1.
-
Oh did you? sorry. This is ugly though, the first oriana:
-
10/10. Looks like they forgot some steel plates on the stern. And have they ever heard of Paint?
Here's one, it's calle dthe Nippin Maru
(http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/2596/63291125mu4.jpg)
-
If the funnel was further back it would upset the balance even more and make it worse. and Mrflappy, thats one ugly ship! 9/10
-
How about this?
-
Thats not ugly. just small. reminds me of ronnie corbitt. Not ugly, just small.
-
1/10! i like the design of that vessel!
-
Is this cool?
-
Woah! 5/10
-
When I look at this topic I get sad biceaus a lot of this ships are just normal ships like the ones you see every day.
And you ppl are rating it for ugly ships.
To me, it looks like there aren't many ship enthousiasts on this topic.
-
i agree with you. there are many ships here that are very fine indeed. open your minds people, like c'mon, Carnival Triumph? Shes a wonderful ship!
-
Is this cool?
whats that got to do with the topic?
-
i agree with you. there are many ships here that are very fine indeed. open your minds people, like c'mon, Carnival Triumph? Shes a wonderful ship!
Referring to an old Chinese saying; "beautiful ships dont excist, only beautiful Spambot" 8)
-
Yes, but I just start to think more and more that you ppl don't know a lot about ships.
Just try a little harder and find some ships that really are ugly and not just some random ship.
For example the trawler, that really was a ugly ship.
In stead of just picking an average car carrier or an average cruiship.
-

True, this is more boosting your post count by posting some random ships.
-
Hehe, yes, but I can understand why it has that strange set-up.
The bridge is probably at the back biceaus it is a trawler, so the captain can see what is happening with the nets and his crew.
And the funnels are in front of the bridge biceaus that is where the engine is.
And more exhaust pipes means more money :P
So, it is a ugly, but functional ship :P (I guess ::))
-
Thanks Sam, I'm verry happy that now this ship is very famous & I won this game because my trawler is unbeatable!
Regards,
CC
I think you missed my post ;), because if you should have seen my one you should understand that that ship is just unbeatable. But I have to say that your trawler was also really ugly! :P
maritiem
-
Yes, you can clearly see that the two ships are completely different.
Just look at hte position of the bridge, lifeboats, ...
But indeed, both ships are verry ugly :P
-
7/10
i wonder how this thing moves
does it really have a bulbous bow
-
I give that a 10/10. They really need to clean that ship up >:( :police:.
Next picture:
-
WOAH! 10/10
-
5/10. Some paint and it would be OK.
How about this concept ship?
-
5/10, not too ugly, how about this...wierd thing
-
wow, thats terrible, 10/10. however it would be pretty neat to own...:D
-
We could start a trailer park at sea with a few of those! ;D
Alright just found this one
(http://www.right-travel.com/images/hotels/MV_Cristal_Main.jpg)
-
It isn't verry ugly, 0/10
But I'll give 10/10 for that fishing boat :P
This is one ugly towboat
(http://www.pleaseyourself.ca/tow%20boat%20with%20pilot%20house%20up.jpg)
-
6/10 Could be worse. BTW that's the same kind of ship as Herkules Atlas in the game isn't it?
Haw About this one, this is actually the desighn the Norwegian Sky and the Norwegian Sun were based on. But NCL bought her sistership when it was 30% compleated and redesighened her. NCL's version is much better!

8/10. Ugly, although the NCL ships arent better at all. This is ugly:
-
Yes, that containership is a beautifull ship!
The Herkules Atlas is allso a towboat.
But I allso think that it is ugly.
The model is realistic, but I hate the design.
This is how a beatifull towboat looks like:
http://www.varenderfgoed.nl/galerij/veerhavenX.html
7/10 for that landing craft.
-
that pushboat is no better than the one posted earlier, it looks like it was squished in the building process, but it does look better than the Herkules Atlas, looks more modern.
-

... what?
That is a floating beauty (for an inland ship), all the proportions are right.
What do you mean with, it looks like it has been squished?
Here are some more pictures:

-
Hmm, the bridge and superstructure are strange, but I like this kind of ship.
So I'll give it 6.5/10
I am glad at least one person on this topic has taste ;D
-
That's indeed lovely pushboat! I wish we could have it instead of Hercules Atlas.
Moving forward: aerodynamish look
That bow is very strange, looks like the bow of the Pride of Hull but filled in :-X
-
Not really ugly, i quite like that.
How about this - I could get lost on that deck!
-
1/10 - she is of quite a smart class of bulkers built by Stocznia Szczecinska im. A. Warskiego at Szczecin. Saw her in Hull as Trinec (Cz).
http://media.shipspotting.com/uploads/thumbs/rw/793238_800/Ship+Photo+CONTSHIP+GERMANY.jpg
what was Henry Ford said - any colour as long as it's black - could have done with that here!
-
Well in the 2nd picture the ship isin't black, so I guess it is 5/10 ugly ;D.
-
http://www.fairmountmarine.nl/media/tn_SM-030.JPG
Where is the bridge!?
Probably Functional more than Ugly, you can't really call a ship "Beautiful", most of them are built for a purpose rather than to look good.
-

It's a non-propelled submersible barge by the look of it Nathan, you can see the towing bridle.
-
How about this,
-
What about these 2?
-
Not sure about the first one, but the second one is nice
-
I actually like both of them :). I give each 3/10.
-
Talking about ugly colors.
I think that all the ships from fairmount marine have hidious colors.

Maybe because Fairmount is also from Netherlands together with VSTEP?
I think you may be correct there,
RPA - Dutch
Pride of Rotterdam - Dutch
Agile Solution (Real Name Deo Volente, Hartman Sea Trade) - Dutch
Jumbo Javelin, Jumbo Shipping - Dutch
P6 - Dutch
Elbe, Furie - Dutch
Arie Visser - Dutch
VSTP 7 (Based on real Rotterdam taxis) - Dutch
VSTEP have included a fair amount of other ships though, but to be honest, Dutch ships are quite nice...
-
They are actually, specially the SS Rotterdam, not an SS08 ship but a very good ship from the 50s.
-
Back to the ugly ships....
Standby vessels are always wondering me. What're they do, actually? Why do they look so? That one doesn't look like a tug or supplier or a firefightning vessel, but she has 2 azipods near the bow (like on Bugsier 2):
3/10 - Have photos of her as "Sentinel Theresa" when Cam shipping purchased several of the class. They are quite smart really but boy did they roll as they turned into the dock! As a standby vessel only they provide medical rescue facilities - the aft deck space is really only for airlifting patients and they have no towing capability but they do have firefighting and pollution control capabilities.
-
Even Titanic is better looking than that ship...
-
The game must live...
This is the complete ugly highspeed ferry I've ever seen:
Yuk!
-
wth is this:

rofl :D
-
lol ;D ;D ;D ;D the car is good ;)
-
So you're saying that both Titanic & that ferry are ugly, but among them the ferry is uglier?
No, Titanic and her sister ships are better looking.
-
5/10, I actually kind of think it looks cool.
What about Carnival Triumph. I don't really know why, I've just never liked the look of it.
Heyy thats my Baby your talking about, incase you didnt know im the Helmsman aboard her/ welll Carnival Victory accualy but same class but i agree on the carnival above it ewww
-
Does someone here has a bow for her? Looks very undone
(http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq268/1j1j1/abegweit-bb.jpg)
Hey! She is one of the Marine Atlantic's older vessels!
She had an interesting bridge, ive seen some pics of it :D
Also, if she was in the sim, it would be easy to dock, ITS A DOUBLE ENDER! :D
Just thought i'd throw that out there.
Jonah :D
-
Cushion, those have to be the ugliest things I have ever seen x D
Oh, and about the ship with flat front on your first post ont he page....
THE FRONT FELL OFF (:P)
And the one witht he "can beat PoR" lol, so, boxy, wouldnt want to walk down thsoe stares.
all of htem 10/10 ;D
What the ???
http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/9705091.jpg
Hmm
-
Yeah, I jsut thought it looked funny since it seemed the main deck would end were the color changes.
-
Moving further....
Does someone here has a bow for her? Looks very undone
(http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq268/1j1j1/abegweit-bb.jpg)
Looks like the next Wind will capzise her!
-
What the ???
http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/9705091.jpg
Hmm
I don't see what's wrong, this is just an average car carrier.
Wasn't that rib used by drug couriers?
When they got caught.
-
I don't see what's wrong, this is just an average car carrier.
Wasn't that rib used by drug couriers?

Agree!
I think those ships a amazing, simpel design... But it's not bad looking... My dad worked on one like that!
-
Heres one: (Shes an eyesore)
-
If you can find a Car Carrier that looks completely different from that, let me know. 3/10
-
If you can find a Car Carrier that looks completely different from that, let me know. 3/10
But its hideous nathan, 9/10 there firestar
-
I really like the car carrier in ncena's banner, the Thames Highway.
I once saw that one on the river Thames once.
But its hideous nathan, 9/10 there firestar
Well, then you think allmost every car carrier is ugly.
Biceaus there are a lot of car carriers that look like that one.
-
Moving further....
Looking on the superstructure: "Ouch, that hurts!"

Uhh...
A some kind of a general cargo vessel. Weird design.
But why need to write her name with SUCH BIG LETTERS?
And the last one...
More uglyships (http://www.uglyships.com/).
Thank you cushioncraft, great pictures of horrible looking ships there, as I just puked on the screen ;D
-
The ship looks a bit deformed ;)
-
Yuk! ;D
-
Well the Sietas feeders arent too bad, only the choise of colour :D But owners have to be creative these days to have a one-of-a-kind paint scheme
Thanks for posting the 'pancake' tug, i was already thinking about it for days but i couldnt remember the name :-\
-
well i spose it could be worse! erm, well i say that.................... :D
-
I have some things about on of Cushion's pics-
Going in order left to right of circles things, -
Whats the huge thing coming out of the button of the super Structure? 0.0 Some kind of crane?
Is that a big lamp post?
Does that tower have a trash bag on it? :P
Someone wrote "Help!!" ?

a) It's a derrick.
b) Yup - on the deck
c) Possibly - or ropework/fendering?
d)
the vessel is used as a theatre ship by all accounts. Under the previous name of "Arold" she was used by ABP on the Humber to train pilots when they 'sacked' all the Humber Pilots and took the service themselves. She was involved in several 'incidents' around the time. ::)
-
Thanks both ^_^
-
Heyy thats my Baby your talking about, incase you didnt know im the Helmsman aboard her/ welll Carnival Victory accualy but same class but i agree on the carnival above it ewww
Sorry man but that's just my opinon. Just like I think the Norwegian Sun is great and others think it's the ugliest ship on the sea.
It sounds like you have a great job though!
-
9/10. stern of the ship-horrible!
-
CEC Cardigan seen in Hull.
Now rate this one - CSO Apache
-
well, I dont want any tea now................
-
This was a ugly ship ;D
(http://www.boatnerd.com/news/newpictures03/DSCF0060-sm.jpg)
-
6/10
I dont find it to ugly, as opposed to strangeness :D
Does look like it has a dent though on the side and a bulge at the bottom :P
And wow, would you look at the funnel :P
-
hmmm, could be worse, but its not exactly like a DB9 is it! so 7/10
-
Its an Aston martin -a car, aston martin db9, most beautiful car ever! take a search on google images. ;)
-
what i mean is the db9 is the symbol of all beauty, so when i say its not exactly a db9 what im actually saying is its not exactly beautiful is it. ;)
-
The most ugly ships are ones that were designed to look like fake steamships.
-
This was a ugly ship ;D
(http://www.boatnerd.com/news/newpictures03/DSCF0060-sm.jpg)
OWWWW MY EYES!!!!!!!!!
-
Whale version 2.0? :-\
-
Free Willie ;)
-
@ CC, I think it's a dredger capable of discharging herself.
Something like this;
-
What is wrong with that one? It's just a multihull, a trimaran. Here in north west Europe, you see them most likely tendering crew to the offshore windmill farms.
-
To my view it has very thin ("as paper") side hulls, or they're connected to the uderwater hulls?
The sidehulls are only connected to the centerhull with the deck.
edit; typo
-
lol. There is no hope of restoring that one.
-
I rest my case :P
-
Any ideas here?

IT BURNS!!!!
-
whow thats a luxury yacht! :D
-
As a space ship it would look good  :D
-
I wouldn't say that was ugly, though. Unusual, but not ugly. :newcaptain:
-
8/10, What on earth is with the bow!?
How about this:...
It's a now bow, wich decreases stressen on the bow dramaticly,
30% more speed, and much less fuel consumption..
not a bad concept at all if you ask me.

Come on, you posted them in the "Rate that Ugly Ship!" topic, if you wanted a good reply, you should have posted it in the "Rate that Ship" topic, where i assure you people would give them a terrible mark ;)
-

-
Could be worse...I'll give it 7/10

I dont find resolution ugly, she is a wonderful vessel. Ill say 4/10 ;D
-
After being behind on the shipping news recently, I decided to trawl the cruise websites for news. I was stunned when I came across this, the Norwegian Epic (more like epicly ugly). I saw a render of this ages ago but back then alot of people said it was just some clever dude with photoshop. Turns out it was real, and thus I present the most ugly cruise ever,
NORWEGIAN EPIC EPICLY UGLY:
PS last pic is the original pic I saw

Truly disgusting!

Not ugly at ALL - lot's of people LUV Lime Green
-
That ship isn't too bad, it is just the paint scheme...
4/10
-
Yeah, I'm pointing on the paint scheme which is together with bright sunshine on the picture just harming the eyes!
Well its nothing compared to the EPIC!!!!! ;D ;)
-
Anyone got another ship?
How about the Hanibal Lucic?
-
Where're my sunglasses? Ah... 8)
Actually that ferry is built here in Ã…lesund at Fiskerstrand yard where I work ;D
I also think that the color is awful, the ferry is now somewhere in Portugal and I think the reason that they painted it lime green is because of the light down in Portugal where it is operating makes it difficult to see the ferry or something like that...It was standing something about that ferry in the local newspaper but I don't remember exactly what :)
(and the picture is taken in Ã…lesund city(Norway) by the way)

Well, you won't miss that boat... :D
Kapn Jonah
not too bad... 6/10
Looks like someone has chopped off the bow, and then squashed it. I dislike ferries that have had bow visors removed, leaving a flat frontal surface. Seems...Silly :-\
-
Actually that ferry was built without bow visors,I think its because it will be operating an area with calm seas(and it saves some time when docking)
But your right that I wont miss it ;)
-
Oh well, i think all ferries should be built woth bow visors or clamshell bow doors, flat bow with a loading ramp stuff is disgusting. And the bridge style on the Hanibal Lucic, ICK! That looks terrible, and i would never be able to navigate from that! How are you supposed to steer from that bridge?!?!
I cant find any more ugly ships ;D

Rather an old post I know, but she just got uglier. They have announced the paint scheme today!!
-
If this ship had 'normal' paint, it wouldn't be that bad...
-
Rather an old post I know, but she just got uglier. They have announced the paint scheme today!!
anyone would think they're trying to make the ship as ugly as can be for some anti-beauty contest!
-
Ugh! Who woke this topic up?!
-
Watt about this one
-
I actually like that one a bit...5/10, still a bit ugly :P
-
 That was already 2 times if not more...
This is the old style ugliness from 1915:
OMG!!!!! 9999999999999/10!!!!
-
Impressive ship.
Yuk disgusting! :P 10/10, It looks as if the picture has been edited height and width ways! ;D
-
If this ship had 'normal' paint, it wouldn't be that bad...
Its a awsome ship and not ugly ..
Have been onboard.
And the colour is funky and not the boring white.
-
OHH MY GODDDDDD!!!!!!! MY EYESSSSSSSSSS :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X :-X
-
That one is very lightly loaded! I'm suprised she's running that high in the water.
There must be some special reason that the ship's master hasn't taken on more ballast.
-
Maybe it did not have enough draft. That why.Anyway M/T TRANS ARCTIC was in Constantza Oil Terminal and I have seen her.It is stranger in real life than in thje pictures. :P
-
Edit: Oops, wrong picture. Sorry. :-[
-
who in their right mind would design that and go oh my god we have to make this ship its like an out of place light house and a very ugly one at that
-
It was carefully designed to exactly fulfil a very specific set of tasks, like all vessels.
It possesses a great deal of beauty on that basis. Unlike a piece of trivial, environment damaging garbage such as an ipod, in my view.
-

No way is that ugly!
-
No.

I say you will still get a
No.

Hmm...
I'm saying the vessel is not ugly and there really is no reason to dwell upon the subject until monday night when Fred returns. Next vessel...

I am with terry on this one I like look.
-
I dont like the look of that yacht looks kinda dumb I like sunseekers and azimuts
-
Wow!
This is etting very stupid! GET OVER IT! Honestly, its just a ship, if you dont like it, thats your opinion, and if somebody else does like it, its their opinion, and you should respect that!
-
Lol DIAMANT takes everything too far  Where there is a DIAMANT post there is controversey ::)
-
Guys, can't we get back on topic? I think an ugly ship is the VLCC Latitude.
-
Wow :o ::) Very ugly indeed :P
-
Oh god not again DIAMANT Well It looks loke a very low barge with an oversized structure and some unsecure containors what happens if a wave hits it ker splash
-
Oh my god DIAMANT! :P ::)
I dont like things that have a bigger top than bottom, it looks as if it were empty, it would sink because of the super structure  :P ::)
-
I'm sure the developers shaped her hull to prevent that. Generally they don't submit a design without looking for obvious flaws... ::)
And I think shes cute too.
-
THAT THING IS A YACHT?! :o
-
That aint a yacht that is a navy vessel or a piece of ****
-
Fantastic model Diamant, but shouldn't this be in another topic in another board?
-
Not really, i think i looks like a basic pirate ship AND DO NOT START THIS LOVE-HATE SHIP THING AGAIN :P
-
I was kinda bored, so decided to make a fast-made model of Golden Star

8/10 for ugliness.
-
Geez DIAMANT ::) :lol:
-
That should be in Ship Simulator Extremes DIAMANT ;D
Jack.
-
For those who thought that previous yacht was beautiful & cool - please, take a look at this (http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=917167) yacht.
Don't get me wrong - it is a yacht.
that thing looks as if it been used by the army!
-
that is not ugly That cool looking. 8)
that's what i'm thinking
-
::) :lol:
Lets find a ship to rate shall we?
-
This is getting really stupid ::) I lkeave for three days and hope to see all is well, but your still arguing over whether or not its ugly. I say GET OVER IT! FIND A NEW SHIP TO RATE.
-
as the prince of darkness crawls out from his pit to return to the forum for the first time in several months, (thats me), he realises GOLDEN STAR is definatly ugly. in my view. although nice model, diamant.
anyway, err, hi again!
-
Ah well done DIAMANT, lovely bit of uglyness-10/10!
and thanks for the welcome back-its already like i never left! :2thumbs:
-
Havent seen you in a while RMS ???
And Diamant, i have come and gone to Niagara, it was amazing! But i am trying to get you to quit with this nonsense about how many ppl like the ship or not! Its getting really stupid if you ask me, this is a game in which pictures are posted of ships that you think is ugly, and someone rates it. This game is pure opinion...
-
Ugh!!
Whatever! I thought it was a fun game but now with all this debate about how many people think its ugly or not is just ruinning it! However if thats what you want to do here go ahead i wont stop your "fun"!
-
It looks like you've both agreed to disagree, so lets say no more about it.
anyway, lets have another ugly vessel:
-
I personally like a nice clean looking ship... ...Again,
8/10
-
OMG! NO!!! :o

ROTFL!
The rest looks fine...It's just when you move your eyes accross the screen and you see that big horn on the bow
Jack.
-
More reminds me the trailer-hitch ;D
(http://www.accessories4honda.com/images/CR-V/000521A_CRV_TrailerHitch.jpg)
Never seen one of those on a ship?
-
Mike, I think it's for connecting ships. Something like that:
they should like 5 of those kind of ships and have a small 5 connected ship parade ;D ;D
-
meh not that bad, not quite sure how to rate it
-
now thats ugle way too much on top :P
-
I guess you understand the connection between these two pieces of ugliness.
She's been here before Diamant and has no connection with HAL, different company, different shipyard, different designers.
-
This is the most unusual FPSO I've ever seen:

I have no idea about if that's a mast or a funnel or a kind of turbosail (like those on Custeau's Alcyone) & why it has that little sail. Also no idea about how many % from the main drive that tiny sail gives to that monster... And the triangle-shaped hull... ???
-
That's real ugly 10/10
but watt about this Hamburg ferry

10/10 for acid paintwork.
Here's a rather ugly AHTS/icebreaker by its hull & bridge shapes & a catchy vessel for me to model:

I never thought that QM2 has such ugly stern:
It's quite understandable that the stern is square near the water surface like on many modern ships as it's specially shaped to place the azipods there. But it's funny to think how they anyway made it round like on QM.
-

for what its worth i dont think its too bad. I wouldnt say it ruins the whole look, it just does what it has too and is not too obtrusive in my view. besides, the rest of the beauty of that ship more than makes up for it.

Funny, the funnel is Tallink and on the side it writen Silja Line!
-
Maybe they were repainting her little by little while she's on journeys? ;D We need TFM here to resolve the mystery!
http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=223356&cid=9
-
Speak and I will appear... ;D
Looking at Wikipedia ( ::) ) SiljaN Line was purchased by Tallink, and the Galaxy transferred over to Silja Line brand part of Tallink.
-
Oh, well...
However it's not saving that cloudly-skyed ferry against being in this topic. ;D
BTW, I see you on Shipspotting at the moment (& all day long), TFM.
-
:P
Anyway I like it :)
I think it os a nice colour scheme, colourful, but not over the top or... bright yellow...
-
I prefer calm relaxing colour schemes for ferries...
-
First time I have ever heard anyone, anywhere call the QM2 beautiful!
well, she isnt as beautiful as say normandie or the original queen mary, but I still think she has the looks, and here 'stack' of balconies aren't as big and ugly as most nowadays. i think she works, and certainly the best looking passenger ship operating today. :)
-
I just can't believe why TFM still loves ferries! :o

Well said, Mike!
Don't know what do you think, but I found Siem Sailor rather ugly to deserve being in this topic:
(http://media.shipspotting.com/uploads/thumbs/rw/569121_800/Ship+Photo+SIEM++SAILOR.jpg)
I also think that as an X-bow design it would look better than what you see on the image, if they wanted to place the superstructure as forward as possible! :P
-
that is one ugly ship! the colors made it look hidiuos and the front is all weird! the designer for that ship! how about this thing- (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1031/535075313_8f559f984b.jpg) it's to tall...
-
 the designer for that ship!
Sorry, I forgot to mention that he's a staff member of this forum as well, so beware! ;)

Not just ugly but scary! :o

it's to tall...
Is this a sister ship to the ill fated Al Salaam?
-
Don't know what do you think, but I found Siem Sailor rather ugly to deserve being in this topic:
Nothing wrong with her, just an average supplier!
I even would call it beautifull.
You could find every ship in the world ugly if you look at this topic.
-
Not just ugly but scary! :o

I actually kinda like it but I think it looks more like a skyscraper rather than a boat...or whatever it is ::)
-
Looks to me like an architect that wasn't quite qualified as a MARINE architect and decided to stick to what he knew.
What/where/when, prey tell is/was this ship?
EDIT: Just realised; it's trick photography, isn't it? ;)
OR is it an pre-fabricated office block being moved down river by barge?
-
 if thats the case thats the nicest barge ive ever seen ;D

It's like the big bad red steel parrot sailing towards you. ;D
-
Haha yea It looks like they made it upside down
-
I don't like the the X bow ships
-
A parody on X-bow? http://www.shipspotting.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=940213&cid=17
-
I like the X-bow design
-
3 : 1 We're winning...
-
3 : 1 We're winning...
Is a very efficient design, in spite of the look.
-
I know, it's perfect for offshore ships as hull at the bow is the superstructure at the same time.
But it kinda reminds about the battleships from the 19th century.
-
What about this then ?
-
:o OMG! OMG! OMG! :o
Probably the ugliest & the weirdest funnel on ship I've ever seen!

Why!? Wouldn't a normal funnel do? That would look normal without that ridiculous mast thing...
-
Not too bad.
Seen the (late :'() Maxim Gorky's funnel?

A great funnel personally...

Not really. Industrial buildings are set in concrete and thus are less likely to float in water...

It might not LOOK pretty, but the bow has been designed to be as aqua-dynamic as possible, whilst the superstructure is devoted to more floor space. Ugly, maybe, but also designed as a working tool- I think it's clever.
EDIT: And that is my opinion of the vessel; it isn't an arguement with you about it.

Norweigian Epic....ew, ugliest thing ive ever seen! And that abnormally tall part of the supper structure is just terrible, and whats with the raise platofrm for the funnels, and a striaght stern, all the way down from the top, absolutely terrible

Leave it to NCL to design an ugly ship

i love Smallwood, she's an amazing ship, and she is beautiful! :P
Why she's so special for you? Maybe the only ferry that you see very often?

I take the vessel on trips to see my family every year, and she is also wonderful on the inside, especially for a ferry, and if you've ever seen the bridge, its the most interesting thing ive seen in my life :P

Ooh.. that's beautiful! ;D
-
No wonder, a Rotterdam ferry Wagenveer (Carferry)...
I can't stand the double deck design... Either the pier is very high or the hull is very low?
Not sure if she was enough stable in bad weather.
-
That design looks very similar to the old Finneston ferry in Glasgow, Scotland.
These ferries had an adjustable car deck which allowed to raise or lower the deck to all states of tide, therefore eleminating the need for a shore-based linkspan.
Here's one of the Finnieston ferries - they were used from the early 1890's until 1960's, when the Clyde Tunnel was completed.

You know, I need to find somthing uglier than that but, the rissian "flying boat", that's hard to beat. 1,000,000,000,000/10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
-
That is also ugly, 100/10
-
Now, I KNOW this is NOT ugly, but think about it, the inside of the lower hull, OH NO! *(BARF)* (http://)
-
I stand corrected, not all ships are beautiful. *Superferry 9*
I saw this ferry at Battleship cove (They have the battleship the USS. Massachusetts, a submarine, a destroyer, and a ex. Russian missile cruiser) :captain:
-
Here is a better pic of the last one I posted, you can see the ship better.
-
What is so bad about the Titanic that it made you barf? ???
-
Seriously? Stop it, Titanic isn't ugly :P

Titanic = ;D
Supperferry 9 = :-X

Superferry 9 = :o

I feel bad for Supperferry 9 It's so ugly :'(
Superferry 9; 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000/10
Titanic; -250/10
remember 10= >:( 1= ;D
-
Titanic is the world's most beautiful ocean liner of her time and of the 21st century. And you call her an ugly ship Jeff? Not Cool. Titanic is a -4.5 billion/10. Superferry 9 is very ugly, but Titanic is the opposite.
-
Seriously? Stop it, Titanic isn't ugly :P
Titanic is only famous because of the film. You would have never even heard of her other wise.
Just another bad looking ship on the bottom of the sea, where it belongs.
-
You know, I need to find somthing uglier than that but, the rissian "flying boat", that's hard to beat. 1,000,000,000,000/10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D
I clearly see that some people don't understand what the ekranoplan or airfoilboat really is & that each one is unique in it's kind.
Anyway, my favourite one:

-
Titanic is only famous because of the filmS.
That's for sure!
-
For anyone who is/was wondering 'HOW THE **** IS THE TITANIC UGLY!?" If you looked inside the lower, stern, hull, it's the UGLY UGLY engine room, (wich they made semi-pretty in the movie.)
-
Jeff123,
How would you know what the Titanic's engine room looks like? Sure you may have old black and white photos but, you must remember the Titanic was a early 20th century steamship, engine rooms are not built for ascetics (passengers won' see it), Titanic is a coal-fired steamship (coal = lot's of dust),and 1912 black and white photos are not very good quality therefor may only appear ugly. You are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine.
Golden star = 8/10 Abandon ship!! :captain: :captain:
-
Titanic's engine room is visible on the sunken stern, just rusted up. A picture of the sunk stern will show the engine turbines visibe at the break.
Golden Star is 9/10 on the ugly scale. With that weight of cargo will make her look like she's sinking, over the limit will make her demise.
-
The painter of this ship should be fired
-
-9999999999999999999999999999999999999999.999quadrillion/10 thae did good ehough to make it look like the liferafts where not even there!
Also, I have no photos of the TITANIC's engine room, but I have seen the same type of engine at the Henry Ford Musium, and I can tell that enough engines like that, with little enough lights, and with coal burning in all those boilers, = oh no.
*(SPEWING CHUNKS)* :o :-X (BARFAPALOOZA!)
Also, don't forget the 3rd class rooms on the TITANIC, looked like someone turned a bunch of school bathrooms into rooms for passengers. :-X (BARF-O-RAMA!)
-
Superstar isn't a bad looking ferry, but the paint..
What do you think about this one:

This is Golden Star, I think we're sinking... we need help... uh oh... :o ABANDON SHIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :captain:

If ugly is the game - this is the winner by far! :o
I'll admit the last two conversions didn't help their looks...

They didn't look too ghastly at the start, but after all their modifications...is it any wonder P&O lost out to rivials on the Eastern Channel, scaring passengers off with those! ;)

I guess those who model with SU (or started with SU) remember their first models, aka weird boxy brick-alike pieces of ugliness that you proudly called "my first ship"... Yeah, many of you passed those times (some people even stuck at that stage for good!)

Honestly I think Pride of Rotterdam and the pride of hull are quite ugly. Too many flat sides, no Balconies, kind of reminds me of a prison ship! ;)

The thing i don't really like is that of the sides of the ship, that its looks more like an appartment building then a cruiseship or else sayed; It looks to tall
-
If you'll combine RoRo/ferry, large car carrier & a nuclear submarine - you'll get this:

Princess Kaguya:

Longer than Oasis, Titanic, Freedom of the Seas, QM2, QV, CVN 65, and maybe Knock Nevis, I wouldn't walk on the PK :P ::)
-
Its planned that the ship will be 501 meters long, about 50-60 meters wide and 20 decks high
-
there are plenty already of those dimensions. They are generally called 'islands'

Okay
Shame about the Second one, because before she was 'Jumboized' as a Free Enterprise she was a nice looking ship

That Ferry would of looked quite nice if it didn't have those decks plonked on at the back...

Another weird and futurstic-looking vessel from the 1950s:
This is the Royal Iris, she was built in 1950 by Denny's of Dumbarton in Scotland. She was used to ferry passengers across the Mersey in Liverpool, and offered the occasional cruises.
This vessel is currently laid up on the River Thames (near the Woolwich Ferry) and sadly is in a very poor condition. I wouldn't be surprised if she end up being scrapped in a few years time.
-
They named one of the new ones Passenger Ferries on the Mersey, Royal Iris as well, didn't they?
Jack.
-
Yes - or rather accurately, "Royal Iris of the Mersey". She was previously called Mountwood but was renamed in 2001.
They obviously wanted to continue the tradition of having the name "Royal Iris" plying on the Mersey. The wikipedia entry explains this in detail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Royal_Iris_of_the_Mersey
-
Ahhh I see..
I was going to say, I have several pics of those ferries...On my Flickr page.
Took many pics while I was on the Liverpool Viking,
Jack.

....At how quickly they burn fuel?

When fully loaded with freight and people, they are surprisingly economic... WHEN FULLY LOADED

then they need to look at WHY they are running low capacity!
They will trot out the usual "budget airlines..." Err. Hello? Aviation fuel is a bit pricey too- the airlines are suffering; so WHY are ferry operators so slow to take advantage of them?
Sorry. Getting O/T now.

All the ships in the japanese wailing fleet are uggly stinky and bad for the world (Atleast my opinion)
-
agreed >:(
is whaling a japanese trdition?? if it is i think it is go to be very hard for them to stop whaling. stopping whaling for them is probably like not celebrating Christmas. ( just my opinion )
-
Perhaps the poor turkey that you killed, chopped up, and ate for Christmas dinner didn't give a hoot about whales but DID think the car that your parents brought its frozen carcass back to your oven in, was ugly and stinky [sic]
The point being that who are WE to say that whaling is bad when we brutally kill poultry to make pigs of ourselves at Christmas.
Just to keep this on topic, I shall include an opinion that a ship I once saw was VERY ugly... It was the MV Bernard Matthews. Anyone got a pic?

ugliness 1000/10

Ok, let's have a first ugly ship for the 2010.
Among all car carriers that most of people recognize as the "ugliest ships", this one is really ugly:

doesn't look that bad

I find the shape to be quite compelling, actually. Looks a bit like a crude carrier though.

Year of build : 2002
And it's a port bunkering tanker.
Not very likely to be built by shipfann55, as in 2002 he was only 5 years old! :o
Perhaps, by Gloat?

The Ships got prettier
besides you are the one who digs up the ugly ones...

I bet there are

Okay, some other NCL ships are also not very stylish or slender or even nice, but this seems to be the most ugliest! The "Norwegian Epic" has just done her very first sea trials and the superstructure isn't ready at all, but it looks like the artist impression here...

How about this screamer...
Supposed to be shaped like a horseshoe.
Here's a description;
A famous French shipbuilder ship company and one of Monaco joined hands together to build this yacht with enormous dimensions: 58x38. (58meter long and 38 meter wide)
The yacht, an area of 3400 m2 with seating for 12 passengers and 20 crew.
This is a "green" yacht.
Wally et Hermès uses green energy to 20 to 30% fuel savings and 40 to 50% electricity consumption on board. Therefore there are 900 m2 equipped with solar panels, producing a daily output of 500 kW.
equipment:
Three decks, a 25 meter pool, a spa helicopter pad a 100m2 sauna, gym and massage room, a promenade of 130 meter, a music room, a dining room, a cinema, sun decks, suites, terraces, a lounge .
The decks are connected by stairs but there is also an elevator.
The suite of the owner
With an area of 200m2 and completely covers the third deck. (This is the bedroom) The sea view is great and there is a private terrace of 25 meter long.
A sea of light.
The yacht has the shape of a horseshoe and has a roof so everything is bathed in a sea of light.
The spacious lounge.
On the lower deck are the common premises, such as lounge, piano bar and dining area .....
Dinning Room
The dining room opens onto the sea view.
Suites for the guests
For the guests, 5 suites with sea views (on the middendek). There is also a reading room equipped.

They ordered that ferry before the credit crunch...now they say it's 50% too big for the capacity they are currently carrying
The same is true for around 90% of newbuilds at the moment, many operators in both the freight and passenger trades were seeing trade increasing and ordered new tonnage to take advantage, shortly after the orders were placed the bottom fell out of the market and a lot of ships are sailing half empty, everyone is just hanging in there waiting for things to pick up again with the thought that they will be well placed to take advantage when trade increases.

The name is a bit ironic

It looks more like an excavator, besides from those images it seems that the cabin together with that thingy can rotate, standing on that hull.

Indeed. What that ferry has done to deserve such fate!
-
Converted to an ugly tug-like vessel...
I think it is a diver support vessel.
Wich I think is a verry good purpose for it!
It probably has vsp propulsion so it is very well manouverable, if you couple that to a dp system you have a perfect working platform for divers.
But I agree that it is ugly. That accomodation is horrible.

More pics of the convertion http://picasaweb.google.com/dsvhalani1/
@ Sam; She has indeed VSP :) It's the former ferry from Den Helder to Texel.

I think you allmost can't see it on radar biceaus it has no steel to reflect the radar beams.

I really don't want this to turn into an ugly post contest....
But, we are free to post our opinions about want ever we want.
And I doubt the designers of these ships even read this forum and if they did this would probably not be the first (or last) time there ships are criticized. And furthermore somebody had to share there tastes they purchase the ships. Sorry but, I really value my right to free speech. ;)
-
The Aeria was a mine sweeper, but she doesn't do anything anymore - she's probably been scrapped.
Informations about the "Aeria" found on http://raoc.websitetoolbox.com/post?id=4678818:
"Solved!
She is called the Aeria
Apparently she is an ex-East German spy ship, taken over by the USSR after the collapse of East Germany……she arrived in Lowestoft from Archangel to see if they could make a floating casino out of her.
The name of the project she was built for : “Reede-Minenabwehr Boot Project 415″
She was build around 1985, apparently by the Peene Shipyard in Wolgast, (former East-) Germany.
Aeria has been towed away, to Lithuania, to the scrapyard."
-
i wil report the mod about this topic,
seriously! we are al humas with different thoughts for ships. if you cant appreciate that then try making a ship that looks totally different to nower days ships..
so i belive this topic has always been useless and shouldnt be used again!

::)
TFK! (*sigh*)
Then go and report it. Hope it makes you feel better.
Can't anybody give him a cookie, please?
-
the thing is, this has been going for 2 years. I don't see anything wrong with this and nobody else does apart from you. now if you don't like it you don't have to read it.
of course people are going to find some ships ugly it's all personal opinion. This is allowed in the forum so the only thing that a mod would do with this topic is possibly move it into forum games.
Now lets get back on with the game

that ship looks very nice!
i think you should search better if you want a ugly ship because that one looks alright
-
Hey Ferry King!
It is all right if you like this ship. And it's all right when you post your own opinion. But you must not try to prevent all others to say what they think.
Don't you think it would be a good idea if you showed us, what you think is ugly?
Lookin' forward to see it. Maybe I agree - maybe not.
Two things have to be said: Ship builders, who design, redesign or reconstruct ships because of new working purposes often simply don't care what the result looks like afterwards - it just must work! See Ralphy's post.
And ship designers, who design yachts like the A-yacht, do probably expect controversial discussions - otherwise they wouldn't do it. As long as there are people who can afford it and buy it they don't care.
They surely don't cry like a bay and try to force us to shut up.
BTW - in my opinion the ship above looks strange - but not ugly. A bit like like e thing from an science fiction theme park (maybe with a 3D space flight cinema in it).
-

If this topic offends you then unsubscribe from this thread so that you won't get any further postings.
If I see something I don't like on TV, I just change the channel. It's as simple as that.
-
Yes I do agree, it's pretty rude to refuse others their right to post their fair and polite opinions. specially when you are not in any position to have a say in the matter.
As long as people are not breaking any rules and being reasonable about why they don't appreciate the looks of a certain ship, and not out to hurt anyone, it's okay. And if they do, it's still not up to you do take action, you may use the report function instead.
So kindly just take it or leave it, TFK. But don't go there again. It's not your place to make such claims or demands and tell people not to post, you're a guest here like everyone else. Report anything you find offensice, if you like, but this topic stays open.
Thanks.

Fred

ok i understand what your saying. ok i say you can continue the game. but please dont try to sho that you can make something better as the makers of thses ships must have putten allot of effort into it
And the fact that most people only think *Norwegian Epic is the uglies one but more people in the world actually like this ship and they dont find the two upper decks ugly because those type of people like a freestyle cruise and not just judging on the outside so.
Continue with this game but please dont always use the same ship again and again but show ships that really look ugly
-
Again... you don't really get to make that call wether or not they can continue.... So it's nice that you approve, but you had no choice in the matter, to be honest. :P
Respect everyone's opinion as you would have them respect yours.

I've been on one of them, the Pegasus Highway. Their car carriers, so they have multiple decks to protect the cars, and all of them are chained down. I find them quite neat actually

We are going in circles here - we've had this one already. And the longer the thread gets, the more repetitions we meet, because it's annoying to look through all 35 pages to see if it's the ship already has been posted.
Btw: the Aeria meanwhile has been wrecked. An it's probably not been a spy ship - but there are lots of discussions out there about the purpose - nobody seems to know.
-
isnt it a casino now? btw probally not a spy ship you say? looooool
-
I don't think so - I've read somewhere(I don't remember where) that it's been wrecked. But to be honest I'm not sure.
But surely it' a very strange vessel ... even former GDR navy members don't know much about it.
"Reede-Minenabwehr Boot" does not mean spy ship. And how do you want to spy anything with this inconspicuous vessel? Do you think they hoped, that nobody would see it?
But what I wanted to say is that we've seen the Norwegian Epic, the A-Yacht and this one before. It is annoying and boring to search the now 36 pages before posting, so this will of course happen again.

sorry i needed to say this,
the reason why they look at that is that their triangular shape makes it hard for radars to spot them as radars always looks for flat objects..
so in wars enemy radars will struggle to spot these type of ships due to their shape
the old battle ships had too many bunks and buildings stacked on top so the radar could immediatly spot that.. But these triangular ones arent

Yes, some strange ways have been thought of to avoid radar detection, including the use of 'water-curtains'..

Yes I knew this. But it still looks silly!
And about the "radar invisibility", as you can see in my beautiful diagram, depending on were the radar is it may not work. Radar 1 the signal is deflected, thus making the ship inviable .But with Radar 2 the signal is at just the right angle, so the signal is deflected back to the transmitter so the ship will show up.
However it is true that this design has a smaller radar signature than older "boxer" battleships. With the old design the radar could be at any angle and the signal would almost certainly reflect off of something and return to the transmitter, but with the new design the radar has to be at the "right" angle to reflect.
NOTE: For radar to work the signal must return to the transmitter.

How is she now? :-\
One of my friend took a pic of her a few weeks ago and she still look much the same.
Duke of Lancaster was beached at high tide and then 'concreted in' at her current berth which helped to protect her from tides, and has been there for 32 years now. She's a tough old lady.
Her location can be found at Google Maps: 53° 18' 23.26", -3° 14' 8.48"
-
It's a shame to see the Duke where she is now...i've had a few opportunities to have a look at her. She's just a home now for car boot sale stalls etc. Having said that, it's interesting to still see a ship from that time period around.
As far as I know she's actually spent more time where she is now, than her sea going career in total.
Jack.

Oh please, stop this useless topic.
NathanC, the Xbow ships are beautifull and they allso have great handling in heavy seas.
• Higher transit speed in adverse weather conditions
• Reduced fuel consumption in head seas and following seas
• Reduced fuel consumption in ballast condition due to improved lightweight distribution
• Negligible slamming reducing the risk of damage to the vessel
• Lower pitch and heave accelerations, and enhanced protection of cargo areas reducing the risk of loss or damage of cargo
• Increased payload capacity for certain applications and configurations
“Particularly small and medium sized vessels engaged in regional trades are set to capitalize on the benefits offered by the X-BOW®, and we are currently evaluating this feature for use on container feeder vessels, ro-ro vessels and certain general cargo vesselsâ€
are all the advantages of the X-bow

I don't actually think she is that ugly, although I wouldn't want to sail on her in heavy seas.

Bright future of shipping, I guess.
"The Netherlands based Hartman Marine Group BV has developed, in close cooperation with Vuyk Engineering and Conoship, a brand new concept.
This vessel, named Hartman M2Runner, is characterized by a surplus of load capacity in the holds, as well as on the tween decks and also on the hatch covers itself. Gross tonnage is just below 3.000 GT.
Typically, this vessel has a a asymmetrical wheel house and accomodation, which enables the vessel to also load odd and long sizes.
Momentarily the first and second, out of a range of 3, are under construction at our yard in Stettin, Poland. Shipkits BV will build this casco based on her proven 'plug & play' concept.
Our scope consists of the building of the complete hull (based on Centraalstaal building kit) included installment of the steering gear, rudder stock, rudder, propeller and propshaft, steel outfitting, piping and a complete paint program.
The first Hartman M2Runner will be delivered to Hartman Building BV in Urk, around mid April 2012. The second will be delivered in Q4 2012."

it has the bridge from the Agile but it looks like the bridge or something else was to narrow
Where does the exhaust come out, will it come out in the waterline like for example Neptune Despina on this picture?

Looks like beeing Italian motorized (Vespa). Could be the training vessel for Kapitano Schettino to get back his drivers licence.. ;D
-
Sorry, this is Off-Topic
For Capt. Schettino, the Italians should go back to an old tradition. This is the one and only place for him on a ship. And with the chain, he cant flee so fast from a sinking ship.

In fact they have dismantled the panorama bar some time ago.
Hm, just saw that on Wikipedia. When I saw the Grand Princess in 2009 I already found that skywalk kind of strange...
but I actually liked that on the ship, to be able to view the surrounding at 360 degrees. :)

I will get a nightmare of that piece of scrap which dumbass designed that thing (i cant even call it a ship)
I wonder if maybe the people who designed it might actually have designed it that way for a reason. I doubt whether the opinions of those on this forum really entered their design process.

Here's a tourist harbor boat

A Highclass Ferry with fantastic windows, perfect for sightseeing. The one and only mistake, is the place for the Chinese Laundryman, I'll think they lost many of this people on the journey. ;D

poor thing... the unwanted ferry... partially converted into a cruise ship... but never finished in over 20 years...
-
After 20 years, the time is coming to bring this ship to a beach in India. They do the best for this poor ship and wrecked it up.
-
she looked fine without all the rust :'(
-
what is her name?
-
what is her name?
Her name was MS Regent Sky. She was ordered as the Stena Baltica but construction was stopped due to problems with the shipyard. Eventually a Greek shipping line (Regency Cruises) bought her where she was towed to Greece for her conversion as a cruise ship. Eventually the progress was again stopped ecause the Regency Cruises was having financial problems and Regent Sky was then seized by the National Bank of Greece. Every attempt to sell her in Greece failed and eventually she was sold for scrapping last year in July. :'(
-
That's really too bad, it would have looked great if they hadn't sold it for scrapping... :'(
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/4f/Regentskyfuture.jpg)
EDIT: She was never finished, right?

I guess it was! nah, it wasn't

It's incredible how many hulls start of life as one thing and end up as something different.
I'm currently sailing on a cruise ship which started life as a container ship. Makes for some interesting wedging of bits of machinery into place.
-
Also how the USNS Mercy used to be an oil tanker and is now a hospital ship.
-
I can see the logic though. an oil tanker has lots of room to work with.
same with containerships.
at the end of the day its still better than being sent to the scrapyard.
-
This supply ship didn't run into some bad luck, it's a new design built by Ulstein Yards.
UGLY!

sooo gigantic funnels 6/10.
-
The ship itself is pretty attractive, but those funnels are ridiculous!
-
And 1 more thing... the bridge seems to be missing....
-
It's probably located inside the funnel ;)
-
if it was inside the funnel the crew would've been bombarded by smoke since smoke comes out of the funnels. ;) :P
-
Weird ships have weird problems :P

Here's a view from the bow..(and some info :) )

Whow... it's actually being built? :D
I suddenly got a lot more faith ever seeing Oceana built
-
if it was inside the funnel the crew would've been bombarded by smoke since smoke comes out of the funnels. ;) :P
I'm sure they'll make a seperate pipe for the smoke, inside the structure.. :P
weird ship though.. looks as if a ferry, a cruise ship and a couple of submarines had some sort of unholy offspring. :P

I call this the Triangle...
it seems to be missing over half its hull? or is that meant to look like a triangle?
out of all the ships i have seen on google and here, i still think this ship: ( not ugly but weird)

oh if you ever wondered what that ship was its called: Ramform Titan Class
Ok this one i have to say is strange looking

Heres what's really called a "Floating City":
(http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/2299/floatingcityt.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/163/floatingcityt.jpg/)
-
Some would call this corvette class ugly
However they were build to operate in all weather in artic waters around Greenland.
Could force 3 feet of ice at 4 kts, and more if ramming.
A helo for SAR, 8 depth charges for antisubmarine warfare, (and a vintage gun for stopping fishing vessels :) )
Could survive being trapped in pack ice, without being destroyed by the ice pressure.
One survived a gigantic freak wave, to the surprise of the crew, and one survived collision with a growler.
Only time could overcome those four 'ugly ducklings' build in the early sixties.
What I mean:
if 'noble' function dictates the design, then it is a beautiful vessel.
As a consequence of this, those large fancy box shaped cruise ships - human livestock carries - are ugly to me, but not to the owners whose perception of beauty is $$$
Of course this is only my opinion, and anyway the first year sailing 'Hvidbjoernen' (Polar Bear) I was constantly seasick ;D
(photo not mine, but found on the internet)

hmm. whats is that ship missing? a bow?
-
Im sorry i dont know the names of these, i took some with my phone camera but i got some others off google. I think they are hideous.
(the only reason i can understand why the second one is called epic is because its epically ugly!!!)
-
I have found a ship so unbearbly ugly it didnt even deserve to be posted along with those ships.
All of the previous ones are beautiful compared to this monstrosity and whoever built this deserves to rot in the depths of hell...

-
AIDA... What I call the ugliest cruise line in the world. Do they purposly make all of their ships so bad...? ::)
totally agree. and did you know the whole lips design is just a fancy way of presenting their motto "Hier ist das Lacheln zu Hause"(Here the smile is at home) not on my face sonny :)
-
Ok, this is getting ridiculous...
I don't think AIDA ships are too attractive, but they certainly are not "unbearably ugly" and the designers doesn't deserve "to rot in the depths of hell". I think posts are now bypassing true hideousness and replacing it with personal opinion.
Not that you can't have an opinion that is. It's just that this bashing of AIDA ships seems a bit excessive.
-
I quite agree.. The ship in itself looks like any other cruiseship..
The paintjob is a matter of taste.. ;)
-
In addition, When on a Cruise, there are better things to do then to hang over the railing and look at the paintjob.
-
I think you need to read my post again. I never criticised the boat just he stupy ugly paint job. Read properly before u post.

I think you need to read my post again. I never criticised the boat just he stupy ugly paint job. Read properly before u post.
Take it easy now. If you want to discuss opinions, that's fine. If you have certain frustrations, that's fine, But keep everything here within a reasonable matter. Don't become edgy to people just because they say something about a ship you hate. Lars' post isn't even offending so there is no reason to respond like that.
And the creators deserving to "to rot in the depths of hell..." is a bit of offending as well.
If you hate a design you can show it here, that's where this topic is for. but that sentence is just plain unnecessary and unreasonable.
To your information, AIDA cruises are popular for families with kids due to the informal, colorfull and friendly design. That's what makes them different to other cruiselines. It is only reasonable the ship features such designs. Again, it's a matter of taste. But the creators certainly don't have to rot in hell for that, and it's most certainly not a reason to become so upset about it.

None of them seem to be truly 'ugly'
Do you have reasons for each one of them to explain what in your opinion makes them look ugly.

This thread is a matter of opinion. You might not find them ugly and that's fine. But it's entirely opinion based so i don't really need to back it up.
-
Lovely bows, I would love to see one in SSE.
-
I must agree with Jake, Those things are hidious.
-
Really? I think their voluptuousness is attractive.
-
I respect your opinion but I think the size of hulls ruins them. If they had cut t down a bit they would be nice.
-
I'm with Jake on this one, they all look pretty ugly to me.
-
Quick fact : that ship which you think is the titanic (same with all archive videos and photos) is the Britannic not titanic. There are no photos of the titanic they are all the Britannic but pulled it off by changing name because they are identical.
-
Both those photos are the Britannic. There are NO photos of the titanic.
-
Even in 1912 they could change a name you moron. The press didnt cover Titanics launch because she wasnt the first Olympic liner. All photos were taken by passengers which went down with the ship very few photos of her sinking are still around. Many copies have been made though. I read this during my history a-level.
-
My apologies for getting names mixed up the Olympic is the one I meant. Believe the A-Level history student if u wish but if u dont more fool you. I don't want to start an argument.
-
Alright people, let's not incite another endless argument about the Olympic class ships and figuring reasons why one hates it.
To end such potential endless discussion, here are the facts in a nutshell:
Titanic was part of a passenger liner series named the "Olympic class":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympic-class_ocean_liner
Named after the first ship; the RMS Olympic (1911), followed by Titanic (1912) and ended with Gigantic, which was later named Britannic (1914).
Olympic got scrapped, Titanic sank as well as the Britannic.
Many people confuse Titanic and Olympic because of their similarities in design during the early years.
If anyone thinks some conspiracy switched nameplates between Titanic and Olympic, go spread your hoax someplace else.
-
Sorry

copyright goes to Hannes van Rijn (Shipspotting.com)
this is the APL Raffles, not one of the most beautiful ones (just like the Evergreen ships), I don't like the bridge it is like a big box
-
The body of that ship is nice and modern but its the paint job I find ugly.

The two ships in black and white were painted that way as it was World War 1 and that they could sail close to the enemy without being seen as those patters are camouflage from a distance away! Just some intressting fact ;)

What was picture 4?

The Leonid Borodich.
luckily she is almost at Aliaga scrapyard

What was picture 4?
You mean this one?
I found it as 'steellump' ::)
-
I think its used to transport airplane wings as their was one near the airbus factory recently
-
I guess that makes sense... a little..
Where's the bridge? Is it just towed?
-
it seems to be missing over half its hull? or is that meant to look like a triangle?
out of all the ships i have seen on google and here, i still think this ship: ( not ugly but weird)

Cattle Carrier + ski slope + large huge slide (yes i'm talking about the aft of this ship.
The last ship is the Cerlebrity Equinox wich is part of the Solstice class and it is very beautifull all in all

Pride of rotterdam: 4/10
It's the bow I don't like and the stern not so much either!
-
http://www.driverheaven.net/gamingreviews/ship%20simulator08/pictures/ss2k8_03_png_jpgcopysmall.jpg
Pride of Rotterdam: 4/10 slightly ugly. It's just the bow and stern I don't really like much.
-
The reason for the bit at the stern is it acts as a spoil also there are 4 engines in 2 engine rooms that are separate thus the two funnels.
-
Brittanica
Is it me or she doesnt look right? ???
-
IMHO, there hasn't been a newbuild cruise ship that looked right for 20 years.
-
She's not ugly, just Not quite right. She still looks better than RCI's QOTS.
-
The flag is too big, but it's just an animation....in the reality it won't be like this
-
I love the ship overall, just don't think to two funnels look right. Princess have managed to get away with one, why not P&O? It makes her look like Celebritiy's Solstice class.
-
Now that the oversized flag is mentioned, the central bulge on the bridge looks equally oversized! And the glass funnels remind me of that SS France concept ship! (not that the funnels are oversized, just that they're glass despite being funnels.)
-
(http://www.seabreezes.co.im/images/content/news/201107/SSBadger.jpg)
I give it an ugly rating of 7.

I don't think they're glass, think of cleaning that! They are probably mesh (like framing) like on Ventura and Azura.
-
Noooo not the Badger! :'( :C Trust me, she's beautiful, I've sailed on her four times.
-
I don't think that she's ugly at all.
-
She not ugly but the bridge looks too small for her hull.
-
She is the last coal burning ferry working left in the world as far as I know. She is also one of my fav ferries on the great lakes.
Kyle
-
I'm sure it's very romantic, but she dumps loads of toxic waste in Lake Michigan every year..
http://www.minnpost.com/earth-journal/2013/03/owners-agree-stop-dumping-ash-great-lakes-last-coal-fired-ferry
-
That's right, but it's not soiling the sea anymore than the old days when almost all ships were coal powered.
-
And the article you linked to is about the fact that owners have agreed to STOP dumping ash into the sea.

I'm still trying to figure out which part of the ship is the bridge
-
yeah, WHAT A BRIDGE...it's huge :o :o
-
I believe she is meant as a 'shadow support ship', though she could be used as a single yacht.
The top bridge is the Skylounge. Toys for the rich and famous.. ;)
http://www.charterworld.com/?sub=yacht-charter&charter=shadow-support-yacht-suri-1460
-
I thought so, the windows beneath it seemed more bridge-like.
-
yeah, so did I  :P

Not bad, i would rather have a design change rather than having those container carriers called 'Cruise ships'
Not as bad as a 'Rate that Ugly Ship' favourite: Pride of America (mentioned over 100 times in this topic)
and definetely not as bad as this 'Spider Boat' or catamaran whatever!
-
I saw this spider boat on Discovery channel. It has a range of 5000+ miles and a speed of 50+ knots (The quite I heard was 80 knots but I need to confirm this) It rides and conforms to the waters shape and cuts through large wave. And it can be configures for anything from Luxury Yacht to Warship. I want one.

-
That's pretty cool actually. Is it amphibious?
-
That reminds me of the buss that got washed away a few months back - I want one!
-
It's an amphibious bus for sightseeing in the Port of Rotterdam. Splashtours http://www.splashtours.nl/ (http://www.splashtours.nl/) is the owner of this bus.
-
That's quite the capable bus! xD
