VSkipper, I have to agree with you, but, it is pretty ugly. One ship I think that's very ugly is the Oasis of the Seas. I guess I'm not the first. :doh:

Another weird and futurstic-looking vessel from the 1950s:



This is the Royal Iris, she was built in 1950 by Denny's of Dumbarton in Scotland. She was used to ferry passengers across the Mersey in Liverpool, and offered the occasional cruises.

This vessel is currently laid up on the River Thames (near the Woolwich Ferry) and sadly is in a very poor condition. I wouldn't be surprised if she end up being scrapped in a few years time.

Yes - or rather accurately, "Royal Iris of the Mersey". She was previously called Mountwood but was renamed in 2001.

They obviously wanted to continue the tradition of having the name "Royal Iris" plying on the Mersey. The wikipedia entry explains this in detail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MV_Royal_Iris_of_the_Mersey

But she is a Good Water Dynamics  ship and with 2 props and she travels 52 miles in 3 1/2 hours.
