Some would call this corvette class ugly
However they were build to operate in all weather in artic waters around Greenland.
Could force 3 feet of ice at 4 kts, and more if ramming.
A helo for SAR, 8 depth charges for antisubmarine warfare, (and a vintage gun for stopping fishing vessels
)
Could survive being trapped in pack ice, without being destroyed by the ice pressure.
One survived a gigantic freak wave, to the surprise of the crew, and one survived collision with a growler.
Only time could overcome those four 'ugly ducklings' build in the early sixties.
What I mean:
if 'noble' function dictates the design, then it is a beautiful vessel.
As a consequence of this, those large fancy box shaped cruise ships - human livestock carries - are ugly to me, but not to the owners whose perception of beauty is $$$
Of course this is only my opinion, and anyway the first year sailing 'Hvidbjoernen' (Polar Bear) I was constantly seasick
