I was called this morning with the question of I could help on the harbor tug Oceaan with assisting the Alida to open sea, on that kind of questions I can't say no.
so here are some pictures from the Alida.

Incredibly on my way to work the other day I spotted a new ship within Fishguard harbor. It currently doing 15
exploration holes  in the harbor over the few weeks.  I don't know the name of it as it isnt picked up on AIS  and the name is too small for me and my camera to see but I do know it moves (slowly) under its own power as quite a few locals would not want a tug within the harbor to move this around (even though there is one to help move the ferry in poor conditions).
Anyway here is some pictures:

a few photos from May 2nd this day the KNRM (SAR) opened their doors and vessels for visitors, the local KNRM  vessel Kitty roosmale Nepvue had a very busy day
(http://s376.photobucket.com/user/michaeltaal/media/2-5-2015/20150502_151248_zpsmdl2pjsc.jpg.html)
The Dutch Coast Guard helicopter was flying all over the dutch coast to give demonstrations with the KNRM vessels (the open day was in the whole Netherlands)

shortly after the open day was finished the "Kitty" got 2 emergency calls both for a vessel in problems, the first vessel that was towed to port was the Sea Leopard and the second was a small sailing vessel.

Evening Gents. Not sure if any of you are aware of the recent Cunard 3 Queens meeting in Southampton on Sunday evening? I managed to get there!  ;D

We were firstly greeted by the outbound containership CMA CGM Thalassa.

Some valuble detail for future 3D modelling was captured :)

Whilst a tea in the cafe went down nicley it meant that this snuk past, captured near Bramble Bank.

Then Anthem of the Seas rounded Fawley terminal, North Star (?) fully extended.

Close up shot. Interesting ship, still not a great fan, I especially don't like the blue hull that I thought was a camera effect on other pictures I've seen!

Rear Shot. Fred Olsen' Balmoral passed shortly after but my camera decided that it was low on battery and I needed to conserve for the main event!

Which was spectacular! QM2 up front, Queen Elizabeth after & Queen Vic trailing - it was touch and go on whether this picture was going to be possible.

One of my best ever images, QM2 having turned round Bramble Bank slotted in perfectly between the two.

And the RO-RO that followed, in fact there was a small flotilla however I slightly ran out of batteries!

I leave with a shot I got on the trip back - Caen Hill locks - 29 locks on the Kennet & Avon Canal - a beautiful piece of engineering, almost as nice as the ships I went to see!

Thanks TFM! Wight Scene...was that the little boat at the front playing music?  :D  Yes, it could have been better, or worse, at one point the fog at Calshot meant that we couldn't see Fawley terminal, which was a worrying time!

Yesterday, May 25th, the Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth & Queen Victoria were all in the river Mersey at Liverpool to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the first Cunard steamship sailing from Liverpool to the USA. The three ships sailed up to the Pierhead, where the original office of Cunard line is, between the Liver building & the Port of Liverpool building. The ships then stopped and completed a synchronised 1800 degree turn before forming an arrowhead formation to steam down river past the Pierhead. The attached video was produced by Cunard to celebrate the event. I should warn that it is just over 1h30m long!!!!! Liverpool pilots trained on the marine simulator in Birkenhead to be certain this all went well. It was, as you can see, a really beautiful bit of ship handling on a tidal river, more like a ballet dance than three massive ships performing.

Angus.

That is in fact a "Liberty" ship built by the U.S.A. during World war 2. Many of these ships were built very quickly indeed to replace the great number of ships sunk by U boat attack. I sailed on a number of these ships which were bought from the Ministry of War Transport to replace ships belonging to the Company I worked for which had been lost due to enemy action. Attached is a picture of the "Specialist" which you can see is virtually identical to the one you show above.
