Today she is a cruise ship.

But how? She has been out of service for 96 years?

You can expect an angry RMS Gigantic if he ever find that comment  ;D

Titanic was an Ocean Liner, not a cruise ship...

Hi Nathan.

The difference being..... ?

Hi Nathan.

The difference being..... ?

I understand now mvsmith edited his post  :)

I just saw it as, an Ocean Liner being a ship which is on a fixed route, like UK to USA, where a cruise ship changes it's route based on season.

Adding a new vessel to the game is a massive amount of work. If there is a cruiseline interested to sponsor us to add one of their vessels to the game, great. Without such sponsorship, it will be hard. We are trying to simplify the process, and create/upgrade our in-house tools to let people outside VSTEP use them. So if there is a volunteer or group of volunteers interested in adding a new cruise ship, please let me know. It will mean quite some of your spare time over a period of several months.

If anyone wants to be part of a team to create any new vessels, I'd be pleased to host things over on the Creators Forum, where members of the team can communicate quietly and without interuption, etc.

As you may know, we are currently testing various upgrades to vessels with our team of Beta Testers. I've created various test schedules for the vessels and that process is now under way. We already have a lot of other resources there that can make this flow more easily.

Let me know if that's of interest.

PS I'm not really looking to be part of the graphics side of any development team, since that's not where my strengths are. I'll willingly help with organising things, setting up proper test schedules and producing sound effects etc, depending on my availability.

so if i'am right you may ask cruiselines for using their ships? if you have permission do you than need to show somekind of evidence to Vstep so they can really see that they got permission?
i would like to ask some kind of cruiselines but i'am not a ship modeler.
also how do i need to ask it? and to who?

I'd suggest that "look-alike" vessels can be produced that won't need permission. The international copyright rules are very precisie on what is copyrightable and what isn't.

You might make a vessel that looks (for example) somewhat like the QE2, but you could call it "The Queen of England". If you then modelled it in a way that made it look similar but not identical, and developed your own shipping line and your own corporate colour scheme, you probably wouldn't be in breach of any copyright rules.

There are so many different vessels on the seas. They change ownership and get repainted all the time. So any vessel is likely to have been changed by the time we get a model of it here. Why couldn't a group of people create a "look a-like"?

But in any case, Ocean Star doesn't really exist. That's a look alike vessel. So there is precedent.

I'll help also. But I don't see why you would spend money on a model you can't use unless VSTEP actually wants it. Seems like a waste to me.

that ship would be rather nice for SS08, the only thing, you still need permission from the Royal caribbean company AND turbosquid, there is still some tweaking needed to make a SS08 working model, i mean bridge interrior, damage model ect.

i have seen this model on turbosquid, it has a huge ammount of details, but i see it costs $210  ???

something what i find funny is that the polycount and trianglecount is diffrent, but polygons are the triangles  ;D

btw you already bought the ship right? ;D

Yes, Nathan, 6M seems to have no concept of property rights, or of the realities of getting a model into SS or even into VS. Everything he is told seems to pass right over his head.

as many of you don't know MMMMMM is undisclosed age. ;)

He lied about his age on his profile. I only know this because Trains, MMMMMM, and I had a three way call once.

* edit by Terry. It is most inadvisable to publish that sort of information on the Internet. Too many strange people around!
