The name of the ship doesn't point to Marseille, but Mexico or Viet-Nâm...
The logo of SNCM is a circle, a white bow on a blue background.
"S" would be the italian Cy Saremar?

It was the Coromuel of the company Sematur.
For info this ferry was renamed Sinaloa Star in 1989.

Budbud meant "most" instead of "more", --> probably a turning manoeuver, reducing revolutions and then stopping when at 90° of the initial heading, ie TMTM (The Murdoch's Tentative Manoeuvre).
Let us fight the problem: Why an emergency stop? Black-out? Collision danger and give way? Go and get Capt Smith!

You're right. A crash stop is very much longer to stop a VLCC than a full turn then stop.

No, I was only  :o guessing, the best way to lose speed is "turn, reduce and stop", not "stop and hardover". It is not specific to VLCCs? The angle of attack increases the drag, like escort tugs do in indirect towing (still fresh  ::) in my memory), playing the role of a floating, drag anchor.
As a new question, but needing explanations in the answer, because  ??? I have no idea:
Does Surströmming taste better than Marm*te?

I just checked, it's fermented herring, a delicacy in Sweden..Oh well, tastes differ I guess.. :)

Ok, the question..
On the south-west coast of the island of Ko PhiPhi Don, there is a very small inlet..
What is the exact depth of the water (in metres) at the end of that inlet?
(You'd be surprised..., I was.. :) )
