Dover-Calais in SSE
« on: August 27, 2010, 20:30:54 »

POR sounds like a fishing vessel.
Graphics are strange in SSE, the coast of Dover is sometimes half visible a
few miles away from Dover harbour. On the POR bridge you can see the with clifs of Dover
but you cant in the walkthrough mode (even with the best graphic settings). There are almost no
missions in the beginning (you have to complete those campaings). I bought SSE for Dover-Calais
but there are no missions for the moment (I have no time for those campaings). I like to select
the "Pride of Rotterdam at the strait of Dover" mission. Inpossible, no?

When we have external view of POR next to Dover Harbour, then we can see the whole Dover enironment,
and in the east we see the sea again (its a very small piece of the English coast, nothing compared to
Marseille, Rotterdam...) And in Dover we do not see the French coast (it is barely visible with the best graphics)

But am glad I bought it (let them come those updates, weather elements: currents..., navigation and ferrys for D-C)

Is it already possible to make our own missions?

It's not possible to make your own mission yet

And I don't think you can normally see the French coast from Dover anyway?
I may be wrong

Hoy,
I selected the Pride of Rotterdam and Dover strait,in free roam.
Its nice to go acros like in reality.
However, maybe ,someone can make a mission with AI vessels in the canal, from Dover to Calais and back again. So the crossing is complete, and looks right.

Marc

I needed a stern thruster to be able to set some characteristics, and the pilot card - wheelhouse poster mentions a stern thruster, and deleting the thruster is easier than creating it. But there is no obligation to use it, of course.

I honestly don't know where that wheelhouse poster comes from, but it is seriously inaccurate - someone made an error somewhere, because the wheelhouse posters I have from POR and her sister don't mention a stern thruster anywhere. Anyway, she definetly does not have a stern thruster in reality..

Thanks for bridge picture!
Is the maneuverability of the Pride of Rotterdam the same like in SS2008.?
Can you easily turn the ship without stern thruster?

Hello Nathan|C,

You are quite right, but it is a real picture of the wheelhouse poster made by Cetena, taken by VStep on the bridge of Pride of Hull, some time ago, mentioning that these trials were performed by sister ship M/s "Pride of Rotterdam", during trials in October 2001. Also, there is indeed no stern thruster installed in reality, it is a well known fact since the first models.
If you had a picture of a more recent poster, or other details of the manoeuvring booklet, or any factual data to help tuning her handling, it would have been kind if you could had sent it to VStep.

Luc
