Such loading is because:

that's a catamaran ferry, what else to say!
there were no available ferries at that day...
the trip was very cheap at that day.
of way too many cars than the captain expected.
the captain weren't aware of the kind of cargo at all!
they're trying to achieve the most ridiculous car loading on the ship to be in the Guinness World Records book.
of some insane...
I have no idea about this yet!
captain was very kind after the pint...

Of course, not.  But that's the place where I found that image some months ago, I think.

SD, why everytime you found a blog or something like that, you think it's mine?

Found a close related thing:

On top of having a full cargo load, the Bell RUS/Majuro from Fushiki, Toyama Japan comes full load, including all the walking space and pool areas filled with Japanese Exported Cars, they manually take each car the main deck by crane, and drive the rest off the car hold.

Seen many a similar thing with Russian vessels in Hull. We had a phase where they were buying up as many old cars as they could and loading them onto any spare space possible - was quite precarious in places!

That just means that if they photoshopped it, they did a good job.

Just because it looks real doesn't mean it is.

The cranes on the dock look like container cranes, not a crane with a hook, and a spreader bar for lifting cars, you cannot see a hook or anything, good way of making it look like a car being lowered, without actually having one.

It is very easy to spot a manipulated graphic. Whether or not this one is will probably only be found out if someone is sufficiently bored to have a look. It is very easy.

After weeks of discussing the weird car loading on a ship, now let's move to something different...

So, any thoughts about this?

If that was invented, there would be no way of controlling the vessel, if you think about it....

Take it from some one that has high security ties into homeland security that Magnetohydrodynamic drives already exist.

Don't worry that information is not a secret if it was you would already have been shot.
