Such loading is because:

that's a catamaran ferry, what else to say!
there were no available ferries at that day...
the trip was very cheap at that day.
of way too many cars than the captain expected.
the captain weren't aware of the kind of cargo at all!
they're trying to achieve the most ridiculous car loading on the ship to be in the Guinness World Records book.
of some insane...
I have no idea about this yet!
captain was very kind after the pint...

Somehow i dont think this will catch on in the UK  ;) Probably somewhere in the far corner of the world like asia or there abouts.
Health and Safey would have a ball here

If thats the low budget car carriers, is it any wonder people are buy lots of second hand cars and not new cars that have been hanging off the sides of that!

Wonder if thats loaded like that even in rough weather  :P

Maybe, but anyway - that one who decided to load them like that (especially on the bridge), isn't normal for sure!

For me it looks like a former Russian or Japanese ship (military or fishery), now serving as a PCTC () with mainly Japanese cars for Africa. Just a guess... ;)

I have to say that some of the ferries that used to be in Dover - Calais in the same environment
were only marginally better... I think we all know which white ship with a red and blue line we are all talking about! (give you a clue, it was recycled by Gillette and you probably shaved with its hull this morning)

What worries me is that some of those cars are fairly new, so anyone in the right mind who would allow their cars to be stored on the vessel in this way have something wrong with their brain. I wouldn't say this was Russia or Japan like Bottman said, the attire of the people on the dock make it a fairly warm country. I would say somewhere on the African continent.

I've got it!

Ryanair have branched out into low cost ferries!

They advertise Dover - Calais (in one environment) but actually drop you somewhere near Le Havre instead.

Now I think the captain was very kind after the pint that day, so he made a free offer to anyone who dares...

Nope

Why not, If I really wanted too I could easily photoshop a ship with cars all over it like that.

It looks real - with photoshop you can normally see it has been photoshopped...

Also there is a car being lowered on by crane

That just means that if they photoshopped it, they did a good job.

Just because it looks real doesn't mean it is.

The cranes on the dock look like container cranes, not a crane with a hook, and a spreader bar for lifting cars, you cannot see a hook or anything, good way of making it look like a car being lowered, without actually having one.
