Okay, lets have some of the things we can do with a Dover-Calais Environment

Dover:

Cruise Terminal for Cruise Liners, eg Ocean Star
Ferry terminal for berthing Ferries
Marina
Dover Cargo terminal - Agile Solution
Tug Haven - Useful for mooring cargo/cruise liners, and ferries in bad weather
Eastern Arm, end is used for mooring vessels
Hoverport - Freedom 90

Calais:

Ferry terminal
Hoverpad (2, if you include the one inside the port)
Large Freight Area
More tugs
Can moor Anchor Handling Tugs
Another Marina
Drydock

Dover-Calais Environment:

Ability to do cross channel services. Not just with ferries, but you could have the Agile Solution, or maybe a tug pull a barge from Dover-Calais, Personal Yachts going from one marina to another...

The possibilities are endless!

You also have a genuine RNLI station to operate from.

Prepare all that you have to pay them for including Calais.

But They are already made, so shouldn't be too difficult

Put it into the Shipyard...

It was in the topic, "what addons do you want to see in ship simulator", in the development corner on the last page.

That's just speculation in my mind. Something that wasn't officially announced. Just feelings from a member of what a dev has posted. ;)

It might be worth pointing out that The English Channel is included in the list of environments here. There are two sides to the Channel. :-X
Please remember that SSPro is NOT a game and never will be. It is a serious aid for the training of professional seafarers.
Whilst it is nice to speculate about this, all, except the published details by Vstep, is pure speculation and nothing more.

What do you mean by that? I think he's hinting with the "There are two sides to the channel" that the closest section of the two sides are in PRO..

But as Traddles said, it's in PRO but that isn't a game version that costs around £20...

I thought he was hinting at them being seperate, but we shall see...

I would love to see what Calais looks like in SSPro...

As much as I don't like speaking for others, I doubt Traddles was hinting at anything as I really doubt he knows (with great respect to him) much more than we do.

I seriously doubt vstep is overly bothered by SS as it has suffered from a lack of attention for quite a while... the regular release of ships and environments for a reasonable price... There are so many cobwebs in 'the shipyard' that I think the entire cast of arachnabphobia is living there.

Everyone makes repeated reference to the difference in price between PRO and SS; however, the number of ships and environments ISN'T what accounts for the justification of the price differential. An environment in either may LOOK superficially the same and the same for the ships, but as said already they are leagues apart in terms of the technical specification.

So if Calais was added or available as an add on, would Commodore of XYZ shipping line complain that he's been ripped off because SS has the same Calais environment as his X000 Euro version? Hardly... as the technical side of it just isn't comparable. Whatever will be with vstep will be.

I completely agree that they should both be in the same enviroment!  :2thumbs:

I was just thinking though, if a solent crossing from Cowes - Southampton on Red Eagle takes as long as it does, (which is nearly the actual crossing time in real life) how long would this route take??

Hi Brown,
The length of time the crossing would take depends upon which ship you are sailing on. But whichever ship it was it would be realistic in relation to the ships speed.

The Red Eagle is a slow ferry, only 14knots. The Dover Calais is operated at 20-24knots, and it takes 1 hour 30 minutes berth to berth  ;)

Freedom 90/RJ4 should take less then 1hr

if it takes that long in real time, i wouldn't expect it all in one environment, as that would be alot of terrain then i'd assume. guess i die now
