Heh, well, the biggest ship I've seen is the Queen Elizabeth 2...I saw her while she was moored up in Southampton, on a trip to the Isle of Wight on which is co-incidentally the second largest vessel I've travelled on to date, the Red Eagle. However, the largest one I've actually stood on would happen to be the Pride of Dover ( http://www.poferries.com/tourist/content/images/image_750_505_sa_4669.jpg ) which I travelled on to Calais on a school trip to learn about the First World War. :)

Cool Sault ste marie isnt that near where the fitz sank, I remember reading about it in a book about the fitz, and how do you pronounce Sault STE Maria? I bolded what I dont get :P

Us locals call it Sault "Saint" Marie.. Fitz sank off of Whitefish point along the south shore of Lake Superior..

Biggest ships I've seen were the Paul R Tregurtha, took a tour on the Indiana Harbor, and worked on the USS Independence and USS Kitty Hawk... Images to follow...

Indiana Harbor

USS Independence

USS Kitty Hawk (the script on the deck says "Hajimemashite Nippon", which literally means "Nice to meet you Japan". This was done when the ship was changing it's homeport from San Diego, California to Yokosuka, Japan. I was actually a part of the script as it was made with sailors in their dress whites.)

Being very modest than all of you here, the biggest ship I've ever seen by own eyes was the Chainat Navee with the LOA of 157 meters in October of 2000. :P

I remember in 1998 or 1999 I saw Kent Forest (now Redwood) in our port. Just checked - her LOA is 159.2 meters. Hence she's the biggest ship I've ever seen, not the Chainat Navee. Although I'm still very modest than you all here.

New correction - just remembered the largest ship I ever seen was the Russian fish factory/base ship Baltiyskaya Slava (b. in 1966)  in 1998 or 1999 with the LOA of  167.3 meters:

Broken up in Alang in 2001.

Some of her sisterships:

Yesterday I was driving over the motorway, bicaus I just got my driving license.
But I got stuck in a traffic Jam.

And on the motorway I was driving, you can see the ships who are inbound for Antwerp on the river Schelde.
So biceaus I was stuk in traffic, I looked to left.
And I saw the worlds biggest containership.
The MSC Beatrice or a sistership.

I didn't have a camera with me, and the ship was to far away.

But biceaus I just have my driving license, and I live only 6km away from the MSC terminal in Antwerp, I am going to try to get some good shots.

Is someone in here registered at a vessel tracking service or a departure schedule website?
I would really apreciate it if someone would like to check when the MSC Beatrice, Daniella or Danit is going to leave. Biceaus one of those three is here in Antwerp.

Sam,

On the website of the Belgium pilotage service is a list with in and outbound vessels on the Westerschelde.

Inbound vessels:
http://www.loodswezen.be/LisSite/VerwachteReizen.htm?lang=NL&soort=O

Outbound vessels:
http://www.loodswezen.be/LisSite/VerwachteReizen.htm?lang=NL&soort=A

Ofcours you can also find both pages via www.loodswezen.be  ;)

For real time info you can check www.marinetraffic.com for example

Hey Ballast.

Thanks a lot for that info!
That is really helpfull.

Only to bad she leaves so early.

Not really going to come out of my bed for that. :P

One question, I looked on the website and can't find if that is the hour of passage at Vlissingen or departure in Antwerp.

Today I went to the Delwaide dock, and I saw her.
To bad she was so far away, I couldn't get any closer biceaus of the security.

But oh well, Spambot and gentlemen, I present to you, the largest containership in the world.
(If you look at container capacity, Emma Maersk is longer.

The 2nd pictures shows allmost the whole MSC terminal of Antwerp.

Never mind those big bullies Patrick, when you can spot the cutest chemical tanker on the Humber

Currently still in Rotterdam, awaiting cargo for Immingham. We should arrive there somewhere on the 21st

LOL - got plenty of the Faith (ok not with Essberger funnel yet) - can't get anywhere near Immingham now (ISPSS) unfortunately. You'll have to get yourself up to Antwerp first week in October or into King George or Alexandra dock in Hull!
