Title: USCG ResQer - COMPLETE (Please vote on Poll)
Post by: firestar12 on June 30, 2009, 16:30:22
Here is the latest project, intended to be completed in time for SS. It is a ship Diamant gave me the info to do. So thanks to Diamant! ;D

Yes, she reminds me of the Arrie Visser. I just wish this ship could go faster. Surely she could if she was a rescue type ship. Also, does anyone know what her prefix would be such as 'MV' or 'MS'?
Edit: Here is an update.

Thanks Diamant, I have begun some hull work as we speak.

Yes, will do. Should be posting an update in a few minutes.
Here is the update. I know it looks very incomplete and messy, but this model, unlike some otehrs, needs to be assembled in pieces.

Yes Diamant, thanks very much. In that first pic on the top view, what exactly does that represent? Some sort of deep groove?

Also, when this ship is in game, from what I hear, I am allowed (if I wish) to give a go at trying to create this ship's dynamics in the "Ship Dynamic Editor". I might change some speed things, as this is used as a rescue vessel, correct?

??? What one are you talking about? Wave Commander = Same thing as explorer.
EDIT: I know her stern looks bad atm, I am still working on it.
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: Minime on July 05, 2009, 13:07:01
found the name, there is one called Xplorer and there is one called Aaryan. Aaryan is bigger, but both are of the wave commander class.
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: firestar12 on July 05, 2009, 16:09:30
I didn't even know of that other vessel, so it has to be the xplorer. Well...not quite the xplorer, because I am only heavily basing this off xplorer. I don't have time to contact their owners for permission, wheelhouse poster, etc.

Is there another website or another topic that the finished boats exist in?

Well, a lot of these don't really make it to the game, and some of the ones that do are included in the shipyard, the game itself, or the addon. For example the pushboat was made by our finest modeler, Goax.
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: Jack_Sparr on July 08, 2009, 22:23:14
Okay.. They should make it easier to add ships and mods in SS2010.
Title: Re: Wave Commander

That has been a heavily discussed subject since SS06 came out. If you search the forum, then you can find a lot of information on that.

It is a very versatile vessel, and yes, it can be used in rescue operations. I might post an update later today.

Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: Wave Music on July 30, 2009, 20:45:55
Nice.  One question though - why your model (& other your models in Blender) looks so "grainy" or is that a texture of paint?
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: firestar12 on July 30, 2009, 20:51:22
I was waiting for someone to ask! This is the result of a lighting called "Ambient Occulsion". It is similar to a clay render. I can make it look more realistic, but that would take way to long to wait for a WIP render. So this is a dirty version of Ambient Occulsion. (AO) ;)

Hehe, thanks! I can't wait for WM's opinion on this! ;D
EDIT: I have found out that if this gets in shipsim, that there will be an application for me to place these things, so for now I need to leave this blank. I would say that this vessel is 75% done. Soon I can email or call VSTEP and discuss things with them.
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: IRI5HJ4CK on August 01, 2009, 12:49:10
Hi Shane.

Yes, Leave the equipment side of things blank. If the vessel does get into the game, V-STEP themselves will add in their own equipment, which is the standard stuff that you see now (e.g. Throttle, Steering, Bow Thrusters). Also, things such as Radar, GPS (Map) etc.

So, it's worth your while putting together "Areas" to put all this stuff, but, don't actually bother putting in all the equipment, unless you somehow "Group" it (Like Sketchup) so you can remove, if you decide to send off your model. Or, you could even leave it there, and let them know, that that is the place where the equipment you suggest should be placed.

OR, you could have two files (When you've finished), fill one with all the equipment, one without. So then, you have one for rendering/display purposes.

Just my suggestion there.
Jack.
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: firestar12 on August 01, 2009, 17:38:48
Well...technically I have over 10 files. In Blender, and other programs there are things called layers that have different parts of your model. You can only view one layer at once (unless you choose to see more) and all my layers are populated with backups. Of course, the version I give VSTEP will only have one layer, otherwise you guys would be seeing all sorts of junk all over the place! ;D

Thanks Jack for the advice. I am about to finish the hull (Except I need to add props and rudder and cages around them) now the hull is very open at the seams, I am going to close that up though. I think if I work really hard, I can finish the model this week and get started on lightmaps, and collision models.
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: Minime on August 01, 2009, 17:46:43
lol what props and rudders?
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: IRI5HJ4CK on August 01, 2009, 17:57:02
collision models.

Collision Models...? I thought that was all done at V-STEP?

You need special software for that too, don't you?

Jack.
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: firestar12 on August 01, 2009, 18:21:56
Nope, the guide clearly states for us to do the collision models. And no, it does not need special software. You could to one in Sketchup.
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: IRI5HJ4CK on August 01, 2009, 18:35:18
How would a collision model be represented in Sketchup...? As in, where would it go? How is it indicated?

Jack.
Title: Re: Wave Commander

Sorry, I don't get what you mean?
Title: Re: Wave Commander
Post by: IRI5HJ4CK on August 01, 2009, 18:49:57
Maybe I should re-phrase what I said. I mean as in, How is a Collision Model represented in a model, as in, How would you go about making/Drawing one out. Also, How do you "Activate" this Collision Model, is that part done by V-STEP...?

Jack.
Title: Re: Wave Commander

The collision model is like a model that fits around the vessel like a fishing net, it represents the outside of the model, but is less detailed, VSTEP activates it though.
EDIT: Slowly but surely!

Firestar,

Is this ship based off a real ship, or is it fictional?

I really like that bridge! I hope you change the diamond plating though, looks  kinda silly to me.

The starboard side railing looks better, looks more realistic.

Thanks Austin, I go for accuracy in this case. The real Wave Commander (Xplorer) uses that same plating. Download that PDF Wave Music posted and there is a pic. :)

Instead of calling it the Xplorer like the real Wave Commander, I am going to let you guys come up with the name. List them and I will take them as they come.

Firestar,

I did and with the angles I saw pics of, it looks more like the texture I posted, although they are similar, I didn't see if it was a real ship or not, and it looked kind of weird, but I see that it is the same material on the real ship so I guess its not that weird.

Xplorer is just a name of one of the "Wave Commander" class vessels built by Alnmaritec.

Here you go some photos of the real thing:

Nice, but a bit smaller would do better + white.

Shane, you do understand that it has side windows on wheelhouse, don't you? ;)  It's just neseccary to have them there.

Sure. I will see if I can add those. But is it absolutely necessary? Arrie Visser don't have them I don't think.

Here is a nice picture of the wheelhouse.

Is it going to stay a United States Coast Guard vessel?

The Arrie Visser has side windows

On most vessels, especially tugs & resque boats it's useful to have a clear 360° view as possible.

Looking good Shane!

But, Can I ask, are you going to fit side windows? and maybe a small window at the back of the cab? It's very important that there is a good view on any boat.

Just my advice, you don't have to take it - You're doing very well, and I won't nock that :)

Xplorer is just a name of one of the "Wave Commander" class vessels built by Alnmaritec.

Here you go some photos of the real thing:

http://www.shipspotting.com/search.php?query=xplorer&mid=7&action=showall&andor=AND

Oh my god! I've just stumbled across this topic, and when i saw Xplorer i thought 'It Couldn't be!' And it Is!

You See, by the looks of it this is the Xplorer owned by FD Marine (www.FDmarine.com)

Which Means I've Driven It!
Small World We Live In!

By The Way, Nice renders!

Another update, more hull work is complete. I understand that her stern isn't quite like that and there is a hole there where the two catamaran things go down, I will get that in soon. This hull is very VERY complex, so I am happy the work is paying off.

Good news. Work should resume tonight, I know I sound like a broken record, things kept coming up in my personal life and didn't have much time for this. However I got Blender working on this Windows 98 Machine, I had to use a 2006 release to do so. Don't worry, that won't affect much of my work.

Good news and bad news:

I have finally figured out my error on running Blender on Linux, it was that I didn't use Compiz all this time, a bit of a foolish mistake in my opinion.

The bad news:

My laptop charger is broken.

More good news:

I have a desktop though and will post more updates. I have begun to double the faces in the bridge, that way in the game you won't be able to see through the interiour of the vessel, and I would post a screenshot, but...you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Good. I also think I should re do her hull as the current one is a mess. Not a mess in vertices, but there are so many copies I am using to achieve my effects, here is how many hulls I have, plus this doesn't count the 30 other objects on my other 10 layers.

One thing is for certain, I will make sure that the Wave Commander is done, I have faith in this project, and I'm sure you guys do too. Except I worry that she may not be accepted, because she doesn't add a variety. What do you think? Do you think I should do this one or make another vessel that adds more variety to the game?

Thank you, Wave Music. Though, what do you think of my idea of a new type of hull? Her catamaran hull is giving me lots of errors and I find it easier to just make a different type. What do you think?

I'll stay with the original catamaran design though.  You're doing well from those shots, I think.
The monohull design will be boring as there're many such boats in SS.

well if you keep it as a cat then the next model (if this one doesn't put you off) should be no problem, no matter what hull it has! as the not entirely relevant saying goes, train hard, fight easy. train easy, fight hard.

Well, the blueprints contradict that. Let's see how this looks and when she's 100% done I'll see if I want to change it.

Well said there, Anfinn. :)

I suspect this will be the last update you ever see of Wave Commander...
Using Ambient Occulsion. Had you there for a second.
Hehe
I'm going to start her lightmaps REALLY soon.

I wasn't kidding when I said really soon. The only part that is lightmapped at the moment is her deck. Now she's starting to look ready for shipsim!

Maybe. I'll see how it looks lighter. I think it goes well compared to some other vessels though, I've seen some where it was completely black. Anyway, soon I'll be adding a poll to the thread. Also, today is a holiday over in America so later this afternoon I won't be posting any updates.

Not quite finished, which is why I didn't post it. Hehe..
You might be able to find one on the second page.
Also, what do you mean in Black or Blue? Like a livery?

Yeah, as in a different colour other than red. I find the red a bit garish  ;D

I'll change it and see how it looks. Black or blue though, not exactly the best color for a SAR or Pilot boat.

I've really started some stuff here. I've double faced the bridge (Finally) which means that in the game, you'll be able to see the walls inside and outside. The first picture is how it would look if I hadn't flipped the faces. The second is how it should look.

I'm doing main details now, the mast will be the last thing. I've shown some of you, who are lucky enough to be in direct contact with me, some shots, but of course, I've gotten some much better material. I'm gonna be posting less and less updates, but in them, you'll see more and more change. ;D

I've got more work done today, I've done more small details. I won't post another shot until I get a tiny bit more correcting on some textures and faces, I want it to look pretty. Normally I wouldn't model during the week, but I really need to finish this.

Not really bad textures, just mapping errors. I've also got some more done, but I'd like to do some more before I post another update.
Title: Re: USCG ResQer - COMPLETE
Post by: firestar12 on December 10, 2009, 23:45:09
Everyone,

Wave Commander is complete. She's been modified slightly to speed up progress. The result of this is her completion. The model itself is done, I have very little to no model work done. The rest of it is Textures, Lightmaps, and Collision models.
It will still be a while before she's officially "complete with no work left" but she's ready for discussing matters with VSTEP. I thank everyone who supported me in this and last minute suggestions are welcome.

This last stage development involves minor detail adding, and please note, those renders are very bad and don't truly show lighting correctly, so you are missing out on a lot of detail. I'm going to add a poll.

Shane, you know what i think of this project, and She looke perfect apart from the railings. If there is a petition to be signed to get ResQer into Ship Sim, i'll gladly sign it!

What file format is the model saved in? If it's supported, i recommend uploading her to www.3dvia.com so we acn see her in her full glory!

Title: Re: USCG ResQer - COMPLETE (Please vote on Poll)
Post by: Minime on December 11, 2009, 22:36:28
ah, well in my opinion there are some things missing, first of all the interior, next a little mast with antennas and navigation lights and some railings, with those things she would be complete, in my opinion.
Title: Re: USCG ResQer - COMPLETE (Please vote on Poll)
Post by: firestar12 on December 12, 2009, 02:15:18
She will not have a mast. I promise. I don't see other details I should add other than railings which I should add. There's a lot I could show you, but I doubt anyone would really take interest in so many pictures.
