I rebuilt the engines last year and am still running them in. Also, making a few improvements (like the new carbs). At the moment we keep the speed down to about 30kts, but once everything is run in, we should get about 45kts.

Not as fast as the last one (60kts), but she is larger and cuts through the waves nicely, so we can go out in heavier seas, which I enjoy.

The last one was even faster. 60 kts.

That was the one I shot those videos from (2 hours on the Solent) last year. I think you could get the feel of the speed in some of the sequences. Like when we overtook some of the fastest boats that the Royal Navy possesses!

Don't know off-hand, but before I turbo-charged them, they were 320 HP each. You can probably work out ccs from that...

It will be in litres, though.

I haven't yet worked out the new power levels though.

They're petrol, by the way.

petrol? Must be spending ALOT of "oil" and two of them. Wasn't sure if you use litrers or gallons to measure the size.

On a good run (on the plane, except for the first and last 8 miles through the harbour, flat seas, etc) we get about 2 miles to the gallon.

Engine sizes are in cc. The rest are in Imperial for me.

The top deck is 36 feet long. The LOWL is about 27 feet.

I only understand feet, miles and so on. Metric measurements came in after I passed my teens so it isn't ingrained into me.

Nice boat you have there Terry, There's one here in Fleetwood (Me and dad were just talking to the guy actually) that's just being sold (In a deal) exactly like yours, same model, by the looks of it.

I think me and you have different tastes in speed, I like the "Plodders" like Colvic, IP etc.

I like to vary between slow and fast, our wooden boat only makes about 8 knots, but it feels faster though, I love that boat, but then again I like to sail with our 28 knots boat and play a bit. Also very cool to see how much difference the flaps can do, felt like the boat was almost capsizing when we tested them, much more sensitive than the old flaps.

Just because I have a fast boat now, don't think that I always do that. I have had some plodders in my time.

A few years ago, I bought the Yardmaster's boat from Nelson. The Nelsons were a a good range of boats, often used by Harbourmasters and Tug crews etc. Real workhorses.

It had a 50HP Perkin Elmer diesel. The tank was full when I got it and was pretty much full after about 800 miles later. It did about 8 kts.

It bobbed up and down a lot in rough seas, but I knew it was safe.

But one of my favourite boats was "Petit Bluer". It was 14ft, with a 4HP outboard. I could launch it from a trailer on the back of my car and be off within a few minutes, having parked the car. I went all over the Solent and round the Isle of Wight in that, at about 4kts all the way.

It was basically just a big rowing boat. Sometimes (when I ran out of fuel 10 miles from home) I rowed it long distances.

The boat I work listed above (I think) Has a 4 ft draft two 1000 hp engines and gets about 30 knots

Once I get the engines run in, 35 should be a comfortable cruising speed.

Although it is 27 feet along the waterline, boats in the UK are cunningly designed to minimise that figure. Everywhere you go, someone pops up out of nowhere and charges you for accessing their particulat stretch of water. All charges are calculated on LOWL.

If you think of a typical 32 foot boat in the USA, it would be similar inside to a 27 foot boat here. (My brother-in-law in Florida has a 32 foot vessel. It feels almost identical inside to my alleged 27 foot boat).

Ah Ha here we use LOA (length over all) hence the boat that I was chatting about before is 57 waterline but then 61 LOA which includes the bow and other crap we say 57 when paying for it in a marina

But when talking about it we say 61
