My pleasure!

You should indeed not let this one experience ruin your enjoyment of SS08. We all make mistakes, you did not know what to do and got frustrated with someone.. No big deal!   ;)

It's just a game in the end.  ;D

You know which cabin door(s) to knock on now, when someone is acting badly.  ;)

Fred

We cannot police user made servers, once the server software is released. The hosts of these servers will make the rules as they see fit, although I doubt VSTEP will stand by doing nothing, when proof of very bad violations against common decency woul be available...   :)

I'd hate to see that EULA! It would be like Microsoft having me arrested if I spell words incorrectly using Word!  ;D

But seriously, as someone who is planning to host a server when it becomes available, I intend to have very specific rules of conduct.

At this stage, I am considering setting up a "hunt & destroy" environment for people who want to sink each other. They can do this in groups or singly. I know a lot of users want this, so provided there are strict rules of engagement, people can join in if they so wish. In this way, the other servers will be kept free of such behaviour, I trust.

Open to opinions, though.

Well, it didn't actually.

This discussion is still about bans and misbehaviour on servers.

Even so, that post of yours isn't exactly a shining example of a fine contribution to said discussion either, is it?  ;)

Being new to ship sim , mistakes will be made, unfortunately some players take this has intent damage on their vessels, could we not have a training server?

Greetings,
Well, the training, you can do offline, when you are able to steer vessels there, than you can come to our multiplayer server.Than you would have less trouble, with your companion sailors.

i understand that but online with others is a more realistic world, also players can help each other out confidence will be gained , then newbies can join the big boys.

Hi SKIP14,

This is true.

What you can do, when you go online as a "newbie", is to tell this to the other players.

You could say something like "Hi all, I am new to this game, please forgive me if I make a mistake, any hints or tips you might have would be really helpfull and much appreciated"

Something like that.

You will find that 9 out of 10 players will be welcoming you aboard and trying to help you out.
And if you make a mistake and apologize and be very polite about everything, then you would rarely get into any trouble.

As long as you are clear about being new and behave in a nice manner, you'll get a lot of help from people, I am sure of this!

Fred

WELL IT HAS BEEN VERY NICE TO BE READING THESE COMMENTS ON BAD BEHAVIOUR AND THE BANNING OF THOSE WHO DO. I MUST SAY THOUGH THAT I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEONE WOULD ASK FOR A SEARCH AND DESTROY??? THIS SHIP SIM IS FOR SERIOUS MINDED AND LEVEL HEADED SEAMEN... IT WOULD BE GREAT WHEN THIS PROMISED `USER MADE SERVER` COMES ALONG AND WE SAILORS `EX` THAT IS ;D CAN TEACH THE FUNDIMENTALS OF SEAMANSHIP WITH ALL THE NECESSARY SIGNALLING WITH HORNS ETC. I AND MY CYBER FRIENDS HAVE GREAT TIMES IN FLIGHT SIM WITH OUR OWN VIRTUL AIRLINE, `AIR-UK`, WHERE ANY LEVEL HEADED PERSON CAN FEEL FREE TO JOIN AND BE TAUGHT. THANKS FRED FOR YOUR INTERSTEING AND FAIR INPUT MATE, I HOPE WE MEET IN SESSION SOME DAY ::) PLEASE EXCUSE THE LARGE FONT.. EYE PROBS HERE

HELLO CAPTAIN1

NO PROBLEM!

AND NO WORRIES ABOUT THE LARGE FONT, WE UNDERSTAND!

THE SERVER SOFTWARE IS STILL UNDERGOING DEVELOPMENT BUT SOME OF US ALLREADY HAD A GO AT TRYING IT OUT AND I MUST SAY IT WILL BE VERY NICE. AND THERE WILL BE A DIRECT WAY FOR THE HOST OR AN ADMIN TO TAKE CARE OF THE 'BAD APPLES'.

WITH A BIT OF LUCK, WE'LL BE HOSTING OUR OWN SERVERS, WITH OUR OWN PURPOSES (FOR EXAMPLE A TRAINING SERVER WHERE VETERANS CAN TEACH NEW PLAYERS) THIS TIME NEXT MONTH.  :)

NO NEED FOR ANY GUNBOATS THERE. WHICH I AGREE, IS NOT SUITED FOR SS08 AT ALL, BUT WE WERE ONLY JOKING ABOUT THAT.  ;D

WE'LL SURELY MEET ON ONE OF THE SERVERS SOMETIMES! I'M NOT ON MUCH AT THE MOMENT BUT THAT WILL CHANGE WHEN I GET A BIT MORE TIME ON MY HANDS.

REGARDS,
FRED

Hi John.

I think Fred may be able to back me up on this. There have been a
LOT of incidents where various people are crashing into and sinking other users. There are also a lot of users who want to organise into groups and go and find (and presumably sink) the other group.

As a result, I'm offering to set up a server where they can do just that, and then leave the other servers for those of us who want to do other things. I have to say that although I will happily host it, I wil probably never use it. I have a couple of real vessels and weather permitting will much rather go out in one of those.

PS No caps lock needed. Use the "size" button when posting messages.

Hi Marc.

I'm happy to do this. With the right publicity and managing, maybe this can become successful.

I'm involved in some other similar systems (including a limited membership system invoving people flying around in a Star Trek universe, blasting each other and also being involved in inter-galactic politics). Some of them have been running for 5 or more years, very successfully.

Cool.. now even grandma can read this post :P

Hi JHB.

Yep. My old Gran reckons this is great, even though she's been dead for the past 20 years. But as John says, us serious seamen....

Until the server software gets past its testing stages, things could change. But it goes the way I think and hope it will, this could be an interesting development.

I have a decent PC ready and waiting for this (still in the box).

Let me know,when it's running.

Hi Marc.

It can be running any time I have something to load on it. I always keep a few spare here. I have 8 fixed, static IP addresses available and can spare probably a meg bandwidth in and out if need be.

Feel free to contact me off-line if you want. Always happy to help.
