Right - here's a teaser - what was yard number 6066 from Fincantieri named when the keel was laid?

I thought you meant what the actual yard istelf was named, not what the ship inside was called.  ::)

6065 was the Pride of Rotterdam

Are you sure?

I have a detail sheet here that i got on the ship itself, and it says "Yard Number - 6065"

Or is it Fincantierie Marghere Yard?

As the 2 hours are up I'll post the answer. The keel was laid for yard number 6065 as "Pride of Hull" - the P&O website had photos of the ceremony at the time. It was later decided that the first vessel would be named "Pride of Rotterdam".

Nathan

The Fincantieri yard which built the ferries is actually at Marghera, which is on the mainland across the causeway from Venice

I think it does deserve it's own topic..(I've seen worse  ;)  )
At any rate, before a discussion evolves, it belongs somewhere else..

They're called ship prefixes. Wikipedia has a list of them for military and merchant ships around the world.

I found a more extensive one here. http://www.lonesailor.org/ed_ship_designations.php (http://www.lonesailor.org/ed_ship_designations.php)

It has everything from "Torpedo Transportation Lighters" -To- "Ocean Radar Station Ships" ;D
