New P&O Ship 'Britannia'
« on: September 24, 2013, 14:51:12 »

The new P&O ship will be named Britannia, after an email I recieved this afternoon. The name ‘Britannia’ has historical importance for P&O, as two of their previous ships have been named this. :D Its not the best looking ship in the world, and just a tiny bit big for me, but it'll still be brilliant (and it certainly looks better than RCI's quantum class ;)). She should be with us in 2015 if all goes well.

It's not ugly, it doesn't look too different to some other ships, but you wouldn't call them ugly, I agree. About those funnels though, maybe the designer sneezed when drawing the side elevation. Hehe

New P&O Ship - Britannia

Well, sorry to bump this topic but they've update her now...They have decided to 'plonk' a 94m Union Jack flag on her bow. Appartently Aurora is going to recieve this first this year in its refit, and I guess the rest of the fleet at some stage will get it to. They are also going to deivate from the traditional cream funnels to blue with their rising sun logo, and the rest of the fleet will get this too. From my understanding they have been losing business, and that after the recent price debarcle (see cruise critic) their ships are leaving Southampton half emtpy, and that other lines are coming in to "carve up the kingdom". Appears with this bold move they are trying to get back customers by adding 94m of British advertising! See attatched image.

It would have made more sence to do it in 2012 don't you think? Anyway I know a lot of Asian contires like British products so it may be an attraction to them? But if Scotland leaves the UK that mean we'll need a new flag so it just be a wast of money

I think that might be the point - attract more business from overseas, as the British seem to be leaving them. :-\

You have a point with Scotland! Be interesting to see what happens then... :P

Do you have a crap, anachronistic, overpriced product to sell?

Don't worry, simply change the colour of a small part of it and paint a flag on it.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a few of the idiot brigade from Belfast signing up for a cruise as they have had their flag stolen from outside the city hall and apparently they all got a bit upset about it.

overpriced product to sell? yes i agree with that, but as for the rest of your post i think your out of order saying that. Each to there own on that one , your entitled to your opinion as much as i am to mine. ( no offence meant clanky )

I seen some proposed flags for the new UK and they each contain Welsh flag in it (Finally  :2thumbs:) - so the fact the flag will change it would be draping if Scotland leaves. I just think it's a wast of time if this happend....

Isn't the referendum this year? :P Probably after Aurora's refit too, meaning that it will be very pointless expensive excersize...hmmmm...

Nope :( However I want to see if I can persuade my parents to go on a overnight break to Southampton that "conviently" co-incides with the new ship being there  Won't be till next year though...
