Looks good chaps (though I'm sure that tfk will be along soon to tell me I shouldn't be telling you that)

What's the commercial google licence for doing all this btw?

We don't need a licence since we are modelling anything ourselves and the textures are from photos, that I took in Venice or from CG textures. So I don't see any need for a licence.

You probably got confused with the two pictures I posted for dexter, this building was only to show him how to get the textures from SU and I never used it for the environment.
Anything we do here is following the rules of the Content Creation Contest, which can be found here (http://download.shipsim.com/Extremes/contest/ShipSimExtremes_Environment_and_Vessel_Contest_Rules.pdf), to be sure that this environment is meeting all the rules to come into the game.

Oh, ok. Best of luck. I'm afraid that if it makes it into shipsim and thus becomes a commerical venture, will require a google licence.

Anyway, looking good.

If you are using google earth generated stuff mapped into sketchup you will surely need a commercial licence.

As I already said we aren't useing any material from google Earth. I modelled the terrain by hand with Blender and used a google earth image only for reference. This image will never be included in the environment.

I hope everything is clear now.

You could do a low poly model of the church Redentore which looks like this:

(picture not by me)

If you want more pictures goole it or take a look at google earth.

 :) Hello Folks,
my attention has only just been drawn to the topic, and I don`t know if the voting has closed.

If not, may I also put forward two more suggestions for scenery?

Alesund, in Norway because it is on the route of the Norwegian Coastal Cruise, it is a very colourful place, and it has the additional attraction of mountainous terrain:

 :)

......and Rio de Janeiro, because it is so iconic as a scenery and location. It has a vast bay for exploration by smaller craft, and also has commercial docks, marinas, and is visited by cruise liners:

@ dexter: No problem you get as much time you want.

Slowly but surely I start adding small details to the environment. Here are new pics:

The big Vaporetto stop at Tronchetto

Another image. Here you can see that the railing is very detailed but I used alpha mapping so it isn't polyheavy at all.

A ferry dock which is also located at Tronchetto. I wonder why TFM hasn't found this one  ;D. It's not so clear visible but I also used my alpha railing ;)

I hope you like it.

:) I like what I see already. The three dolphins adjacent the ferry dock are a nice touch too, helping to give that extra bit of realism.

I won't be able to work on this project for another week  :'(

On Saturday I will go to Eastbourne, UK for one week with my class. I don't think that I will see any ships, but I hope it will be nice anyway.

But this shouldn't stop you from working on the project, of course.  ;D

Hello all!

I'm so sorry i haven't noticed this topic earlyer, i could give some suggestions for envirorments. Personaly i would like to see Dubrovnik in SSE, but the voting is over!

Still, i must say i'm setisfied with Venice very, very much! I like her, it is the major port on the Adriatic Sea. All the Mediteranean cruises starts and ends in Venice ( which makes Venice owerloaded with cruise ships each day ), also all the ferry lines for Croatia, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Spain and some other lines also starts from venice. There is also many yachts & megayachts in Venice. Also Venice is in general a very intersting & beautiful town, also it's port is great, and preofessional.

In general, Venice would be a great envirorment fro SSE because it's very intersting for sail, it would be the first Adriatic port which would open some new world destinations.

If you need help?

Well, i don't know if i can help, i'm modeling a little bit, i started modeling few months ago, and i'm still in Google Sketchup ( curently i'm working on my model of a cruise ship ). But my modeling skills are not very well, but maybe i can do something.

Also, i live in Rovinj, which is 1 hour from Venice ( traveling by hoovercraft ), also i wanted to visited Venice, so if you need some pictures, maybe i can visit the port of Venice and take some pictures.

I would really like to have Venice in SSE, a first envirorments on the Adriatic sea which is also very close to my home port.  ;)

Many kind regards.
Capt. Mitch

Hi,

I'm back from a very nice trip to England and now I start working on the project again.

@ Captain. Mitch: I'm glad you like the project. It would be wonderful, if you could help us by taking some pictures from Venice. I'm going to Venice in the end of July and it would be great if you have some time before that.

Please reply if you are still interested and you have time then I will give you some tips for photographing textures.

Kind Regards,

Joey

Maybe some of the Titanic's stops? Southamptons already added, how about Cherbourg, France, Queenstown, Ireland, Cape Race, Halfax and the former Harland and Wolff Shipyards?
