Today I had the idea of creating a “forum environment†this would be an environment created by the shipsim community for SSE. Every modeller on the forum could do some parts of it and these parts would come together in a big environment.
This idea came because there are only two environments in the winners of the CCC.
First we have to decide which environment we want to build. And Please don’t say I want this environment because it’s cool, but offer how it would improve SSE. After that I would create a poll and you, the community can decide which one we should build.
I hope you like the idea and if you have any idea how to improve this, feel free to say it.
More information will follow, if I see that you are interested.
Kind Regards,
Joey1
-
This I think would be a great idea - I am up for it
get a environment, and divide it up into tiny chunks, a lot easier then being thrown into the deep end
-
Thanks TFM,
Nice to have you on board
-
Time for your opinion
In Step 1 you can suggest your favourite environment for the Forum environment project.
If you want to suggest your favourite environment here please describe the Port, Island...(etc.) by
- Name
- Location
- Facilities
- Describe what makes this port different from the others
- Post some Pictures (please not more than 3 per environment)
I hope we get a lot of suggestion.
Kind Regards

ok here is my favorite that i think might suit allot of ships in SSE
Name: Dubai Harbour
Location: Dubai (UAE)
Facilities: Skyscrapers, Large Cargo Terminal, Cruise Terminal, leisure centres ;D
: This harbour is different from the other SSE harbours is because it is in a total different location.. Its in the Desert shaped area and one of the hottest places. It has the highest Skyscrapers and the 7star hotel of Dubai. The Beach stretches all across going passed many palm tree'd areas and the best time is at sunset when all the skyscrapers are just turning on the lights ;D

Looks very nice, TFK
I hope there will follow more soon.

Mine would be Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor is a marine naval base located on the Hawaiian island Oahu. Pearl Harbor mostly known by it's attack on 7th of December, the USS Arizona and USS Missouri which still remains there.
The name Pearl Harbor was because the seafloor was overpopulated with pearls.
This enviroment should have clear water. :)

im happy to help make 1 ...
* Name : port of felixstowe (Harwich Haven)
* Location: Essex , England
* Facilities : Cruise terminal - Ferry terminal - container terminal(s)over 3 miles long! - pilot / tug bassin - marina - small oil terminal - pier - trinity house pier (Could be fun for fairmont sherpa) - ex stena hss terminal
* Describe what makes this port different from the others: this port has everything from small mariners to the biggist ferrys in the world (Stena Hollandica & Stena Britannica) and across the small river is the port of felixstowe capable of handling emma maersk and other Ulta large container vessels and i also think it will be fun because you could make missions with a ferry from harwich - Hoek Van Holland like in real life ...so pleace vote harwich it is a very interesting port and in the old days train ferrys came her and navy ships!

Harwich woul d be good because it would go well with the Rotterdam environment... :)
Especially if we could get a suitable Stena Ferry... !:)
I have a few environment ideas - will put them up tomorrow
-
Some very nice suggestions you made there.
But that can't be all.
Come on people there are thousands of I want this and that topics - here you can post your favourite port and you have a chance, that it gets modeled.
Kind Regards,
Joey1

OK, so firstly, I thought, what about somewhere with a shipyard
So I thought about:
Turku
Location: Turku, Finland
Facilities: Ferry Terminals, Freight areas, Shipyard for Ship construction
Describe what makes this port different from the others: Well, The environment also ices up, not sure if that is a facility we could incorporate onto SS. Also it has a shipyard where ships are built, so would be interesting to get ships to start from there on a maiden voyage, and for their sea trials etc.
Post some Pictures (please not more than 3 per environment):
Um... might have to Google that one - not been there personally...
Helsinki
Location: Helsimnki, Finland
Facilities: Ferry Terminals, Freight areas, Cruise Terminals, Shipyard for Ship construction
Describe what makes this port different from the others: Similar ytto Turku; The environment ices up, has a shipyard where ships are built, so would be interesting to get ships to start from there on a maiden voyage, and for their sea trials etc.
Post some Pictures (please not more than 3 per environment):
Hmm... Google again
Another area which would be interesting could be:
St Malo and the Channel Islands
Location: Channel islands and France
Facilities: Ferry Terminals, Freight areas, Drydock, Marinas, Cruise areas/ at anchor
Describe what makes this port different from the others: This would be interesting I feel, and with the new InCat coming would be really nice - you can have smaller freight vessels as well.M Also you can do little freight runs between the islands. and St Malo is not a easy place to go to requires skill to get past rocks and islands, and the port itself features areas of very low depth, some quite close to the ferry terminal. St Malo itself is very pretty. And, as like DCitSE, you can do full runs from St Malo to Jersey/Guernsey without changing environments
Post some Pictures (please not more than 3 per environment):

http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=1099484
Are... something different...
Kiel Canal
Location: Germany
Facilities: Um... Canal... bits at either end
Describe what makes this port different from the others: Not really a port, but I thought its something different - Kiel Canal connects the North Sea with the Baltic. I think there have been many request tfor this, as it really is something different...
Post some Pictures (please not more than 3 per environment):
Um... Google time...
OK there are four ideas :)
-
Very nice TFM
I will also put two or three suggestions up later.

Here is one of my favourite ports
Venice
Location: Venice, Italy
Facilities: Docks for smaller and large ferries, docks for cruise ships, oil and container terminal, shipyard, lots of
small canals and yacht marinas.
Describe what makes this port different from the others: Venice is an Old Italian city which is simply magic. It has hundreds of small canals and bridges. Surrounded by very nice old buildings – It’s a floating city. But there are not only old buildings Venice is one of the largest Ports in the Adriatic Sea.
Pictures:
To see how nice Venice is go to Google Earth – there the whole city is modelled in 3D. It could look like this in ShipSim.
Here are some impressions:

Name Manchester ship canal
Location uk
Facilities docks warehouses.
Describe what makes this port different from the others it has locks and is a canal
Post some Pictures (please not more than 3 per environment)

-
Joey , dont you think we should get started on the poll for
* Manchester ship canal
* Venice
* Turku
* Helsinki
* St Malo and the Channel Islands
* Kiel Canal
* Harwich Haven
* Pearl Harbor
* Dubai Harbour
-
Hmm we could wait a little longer - besides at the moment there is only three of us willing to help, which is sad...
I would have thought more people would have been interested...
-
i am happy to help make it as well .
i want ship canal because i live there.
-
Hi,
sounds like a good idea.
Just a thought of mine: I think ports are great where you can sail with small boats and also larger vessels because I guess that people like to sail with private yachts, some with cruise ships and some (like me) prefer to sail with cargo vessels.
For my point of view a harbour like venice would be great because it offers all possibilities.
Other ideas could be Bergen (Norway) or Stockholm. Just to mention two of them...as I like Scandinavia I just mentioned them...knowing that there are 1000 others (e.g. Wellington, New Zealand).
cheers
Ingo

suez canal
panama canal
street of gibraltar
monaco
river moesel n germany
sicily
adriatic sea
shanghai
tokio
that's what i think that can be added to the idea's list.
Dubai sounds good!
-
so, we have about 50 possibilities...and now? :-)
-
Hi All
What do yoy think about the Westerscheldt river to Antwerp with the harbor of Antwerp, its a difficult and very busy river
and noordzee kanaal with the harbor of IJmuiden and Amsterdam ;D
rgrds
jomach
-
!:) my ideas: Hobart, Manchester ship canal , panama canal, suez canal and the river themes in london. !:)
-
Thanks for all your suggestions they are all great.
So I think we should start the poll now.
But I don't want to miss any of you suggestions. So I do this list first
*Dubai
*Pearl Harbor
*port of felixstowe (Harwich Haven)
*Turku
*Helsinki
*St Malo and the Channel Islands
*Kiel Canal
*Venice
*Manchester ship canal
*suez canal
*panama canal
*street of gibraltar
*monaco
*river moesel n germany
*sicily
*adriatic sea
*shanghai
*tokio
*Antwerp
*noordzee kanaal (IJmuiden and Amsterdam)
*Hobart
*river themes in london
I think that are enough for the moment - but we still need people to help us!
And some locations like sicily, adriatic sea, panama canal and other very large locations are too big for the first forum environment, I think.
But please post your opinion too.
Kind Regards,
Joey1
EDIT: Oops alex 3d you were faster than me, added your locations to list
-
I'm up for it but my modelling's not great ;)
I vote Venice :P
-
when will poll open for voteing?
-
The poll is open, now you can vote for your favourite environment.
Please note:
We may not model the poll winner, if...
...We have not enough information, pictures of this environment...
...It is too large (panama canal, suez canal, adriatic sea, sicily...)*...
If there is more than one environment on the top place we will add a second poll to decide the final winner.
*But we can model a part of them, that's why they are in the poll
Joey1
-
if panama or Manchester ship canal wins how do we make locks.
because the panama canal just isn't the panama canal without locks.
-
just made a office block for the project could be used everywhere.
i made it for me.[Alex noble 3d co]
-
Poll is up!
so people should start voting now
-
again no bering sea... :'(
-
this is a port control office that could go in everyone of those ports.
-
You could just post some pictures Alex ;)
-
File>Export>2d graphic>save and post your pics here
-
ok.
office is my office
office 1 is the port control office
-
a house
-
looks nice
but such an enviroment needs real buildings
-
They are nice
But I think we should wait with the modeling untill we know which environment we do because a house in Dubai looks different from a house in England or Venice for example. ;)
-
but i am sure offices in Manchester are not that different to offices in venice or dubai.
-
i mean that your buildings have to be buildings that really exist in one of your enviroments..
Those buildings look like you just build it from scratch
-
i did
if panama or Manchester ship canal wins how do we make locks.
because the panama canal just isn't the panama canal without locks.
can u just tell me how we will do them.
-
Well we would model and texture them and VSTEP would have to do the rest.
They already got a Lock master Simulator (http://www.vstep.nl/projects/lock_master_simulator/detail.php) hopefully we could get this in the game bu it would be more likely that they just keep them open or animate only the opening and closeing of the doors
-
just emailed frank to see if we could have it in sse when it is done.
-
I'd be up for it, i think ::)
Is there going to be a quality control for this project?
-
For sure there will be a quality control. If not, the environment wouldn't go into SSE.
But I think everybody here will help you, if have any problems. ;)
Joey
-
could I suggest we get someone to do the textures to make them as realistic as possible?
-
can i do buildings.
-
Would be great, if we could find someone who is very good at texturing and would like to help us. But I dont think we should give the whole texture work to one person, because if this person looses interest on the project we will get stuck.
-
ok. i am good at houses and offices.
-
I Voted , if vestep dont agree to put it in the game .. we could put it in Vertual sailor
-
*cough* oslo *cough* bering sea *cough dont *cough* see them as option *cough
-
*cough* oslo *cough* bering sea *cough dont *cough* see them as option *cough
See you should have been here earlier :p
:D
But - if this is successful... hopefully there will be more

vsf better.
sorry for double post.
-
are my offices and houses ok for the cc
They would need a proper texture map and you shuold model them after a real building. Therefore you have to know which environment we model and please follow the guidlines from the CCC. You find them here (http://download.shipsim.com/Extremes/contest/ShipSimExtremes_Environment_and_Vessel_Contest_Acceptance_formats.pdf).
Joey
-
could I suggest we get someone to do the textures to make them as realistic as possible?
ask some professional texture makers..
I think Thor2 i s good person to ask as his textures are very realistic
-
when will poll end?
-
The Bosphorus
-
I would like to make the texture maps, i`ve some experience
Attached some examples
-
Very nice Kobus
You got the job ;D
when will poll end?
I will leave it open for one week.
Joey

Missing some one places here
Oslo, Norway
Bergen, Norway
Stadt, Norway (a storm places in Norway)

yeah... but olso wont be complete without color line :-\
-
We will get the color line soon...I´m sure!!! :2thumbs:
-
I think i am going to ask Joey if i can get a job in this project too because i like designing
-
as far as the poll concerns, i think venice will be a very nice environment to model.
-
Oslo have 3 ferry terminals ::), and a large fjord, so add Oslo here :2thumbs: :captain:
And a big cruise port, and containers port and many other ;D
So pleas say Oslo come :)
-
Venice is a very nice harbour and this time people would use the vstep7 moe as that little cute taxi isnt being used that much
-
If Venice holds the leading position, this here would be a suitable building.
It has less than 300 triangles and a 256x256 texture – so it could be repeated. I took the texture from a pic that I took in my holidays in Venice.
I hope you like it and it motivates you to vote for Venice too. ;D
Joey1
-
antwerp deserves my vote
-
woow looks wonderfull!
but thats just 1 out of thousands!
as you can see from this Google Earth image, there is allot of buildings!
but it is a good enviroment and i believe we can take on the challenge if we work together!
-
Yes it is only one, but we could use it 10 or even 20 times on different places.
-
we could !:)
but we have to use it in places where ships cant reach like streets passed the river
-
scheveningen nearly at ijmuiden and rotterdam it can be in the same enviroment at the noordzee kanaal
i have maked a model for the CCC but it not get it :(
-
not all buildings have to be modelled accuratly, just the first few rows at the water and some importand buildings, and then it's ok.
-
Ok the poll wasn’t open for a whole week, but I think the winner is clear to see.
It’s Venice!
Now the hard work starts: We have to model it. ;)
Kind Regards,
Joey

We really now need a lit of people who are wanting to model, I think

Hello all
Sorry for this post
i know my home port is not in the poll
but i would love to see my home port of curacao in SSE
(repeat)
It's natural and very deep
entrance depth of the port is 254 meters, And the depth inside is between 60 and 100 meters
Allot of ships are capable of entering the port
But any ship higher then 52 meters cannot due to the juliana bridge wich is 55 meters high above sea level
Also we get allot of rare ship visitors
Most of them are cable layers, VLCC's, Or Warships
Big ship like 200 meter giant's are not allowed to go faster then 6 knots in the entrance or inside the port
Ships smaller then 200 meters have a max speed of 10 knots, Also tanker's and ships that do not manuaver easy must use tug's to enter this port
As for cruise ships more inside the port our outside at the pier
In the entrance the port has a pontoon bridge called "Emma Bridge"
she was build in 1888, she takes 5 minutes to open and close
My question " is ther any port in the world that has a pontoon bridge that can open?"
Please have a look at these foto's and get your impression :)

opinions are surely wanted ;)

Oceandream
-
Sorry oceandream we already decided which port we will model (Venice in Italy)
But that is a really nice port and if this project is successful there will probably a sequel. ;)
Joey
-
I have also good news.
Started to model the main mesh of the environment. It's a bit difficult to do because of all the small canals.
Here you have a pic.
PS: I will create a new topic for all the files of the environment. So that everybody can go on with the modelling, if someting bad happens to me. ;)
-
how is this Joey?
i know it doesnt look like a venice building because i have never been to Venice..
but we could use it maybe..
-
Very nice TFK, some buildings in Venice nearly look the same.
One question where did you get thet nice texture from?
Joey
-
i will PM you the texture ;)
-
You don't need to PM it I am currently making a topic for all the files.
-
oh i think i have accidently already send you the file..
you can include it in your new topic if you want
-
Now you can post all files in the files topic (http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24156.0.html)
This are the rules:
Please upload the 3D files in Collada (.dae) format which can be easily exported for Google SketchUp or the most other 3D programs. For textures we will use JPEG (.jpg) first and in the end phase we will convert it to .dds!
Do not post anything else than your model and/or texture in this topic!
When you upload your model please put in here a screenshot or render, a short description and of course the model itself!
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
The first two buildings are finished - only a few hundred to go ;D
Render...

few hundred! :o
-
mm this would be easier if I was remotely familiar with Venice
And the ferry berths are just concrete, so can't do them...
Hmm any suggestions for what I can do?
-
you could make bridges that connect on the canal.
you could type that in google and you will get lots of images you could use.. because your good at railings so bridges would be fine..
Another thing you could do is go to Venice in Google Earth and look around for anything that might look easy to you
-
To get an overview of Venice I would suggest to look at it in Google Earth and don't forget to turn the 3d buildings on - the whole city is in 3d.
Then I would suggest a big building for you like the St Mark's Campanile (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Mark%27s_Campanile)
Even the POR has seen it ;D
http://www.faktaomfartyg.se/pride_of_rotterdam_2001_b_1.htm
-
Yeah, I was thinking about doing the bridges. !:)

Joey i managed to finish another building!
-
Yeah, I was thinking about doing the bridges. !:)
If you would like to do a bridge, why not the most famous in Venice the Rialto Bridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rialto_Bridge)
Joey i managed to finish another building!
Very nice TFK I have already seen it ;)
Joey
-
hmm shouldnt we let TFM start off with a simpler bridge so he kind of knows how to mkae other bridges
(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_CsixzklYuQ4/TEVOYw-ALeI/AAAAAAAACSo/a-qdRtgNfoY/s1600/bridge.jpg)
Edificio in Venezia, Italia bridge is quite easy
Or any other bridges because the bridge you showed is one of the hardest so let TFM start with an easier one
-
*sorry for double post*
Joey i think i am starting to struggle now to make new buildings as they arent very detailed enough and i use the print screen option because i dont know where to get images..
But to make sure you udnerstand how i make my buildings:
I use this:
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwh/buildingmaker.html
-
That's a very cool tool
If you need some textures I will post some pictures but you have to edit them yourself.
Joey
-
yes i am more than happy to help..
Can you post some of those texutres (or send) and i will have a look at it ;)
-
Well - I can do the models, but someone else can texture mine - I am having a hard enough time with the CQs textures..
-
hmm lets see those textures Joey.
TFM are you sure that Cq's texture problems are the same with building textures?
-
If I remember correctly, doesn't the new version of Building Maker use the textures from Google Earth?
-
If I remember correctly, doesn't the new version of Building Maker use the textures from Google Earth?
i'm not very sure
-
Here are the first three
in the first you an edited building front.
the second you have to edit a bit
and look what you can pick out of the third
Joey
-
the first and second pic seem quiet easy so i will do 2 buildings
-
*sorry double post*
Ok Joey i made a building for you out of the picture you gave me and currently i am working on the 2nd one
-
hey i saw the second building on Die ludolfs de film
-
hmm it does look like that building from the film,
-
*sorry double post*
Ok Joey i made a building for you out of the picture you gave me and currently i am working on the 2nd one
Very nice job, but I can't see the texture, if you don't attach the texture map
-
what do you mean?
the picture you gave me is the texture
-
Yes but you used only this pic and for the roof there is nothing. You would need to include this part too. A bit of grey colour wold be okay for example.
If you don't understand what I mean look at the attached image.
Joey
-
oh now i get it!
ok shall work on it!
-
i'm not very sure
Have you seen this video?

Don't know whether it will help or not but worth posting anyway. :)

-
Wow that is really great work :2thumbs:
I think you are the bridge-master, which we really need for Venice ;D
Joey
-
Thanks :)
-
Very Very nice!
now we just need the right textures that would fit the bridge
-
Currently working on tree's
they are 2nd now but using copy and rotate i will make more than one ! and the shape will look like a 3d tree.
here is my progress so far
-
(sorry triple post)
Ok i finished tree 3d 1!
-
Very nice TFK you only need to upload one tree the rest we will do when we are putting all together (buildings, bridges etc.)
About the models you uploaded in the file topic please attach the texture* and all three bouildings in the last file have too many polys to be repaeted, but we need to repaet all buildings exept the big main buildings like churches.
* please put the textures on a 256x256 pixel sheet, if you don't do this I have to retexture every building.
Joey
-
Ok this is a short tutorial about making the texture sheet.
First open a picture editing program of your choice they all look very similar, here I used GIMP (you can download it free, just google it)
Click on File>New (fig_1) then a small window open where you can put in the size of the new file. Here you have to type in 256 and 256 because we want to do a texture for a repeatable building. (fig_2)
When we click on OK we see our new file.
Now we have to open the file with the picture for the texture. (fig_3) On this picture you have to select a part, for example the roof. And the copy this part and paste it as new image. (fig_4)
Now we can scale the roof to the right size we can easily put in 256 as high and it fits perfectly into the texture file. (fig_5)
To put it in the texture file copy it again and insert it as new layer. (fig_6)
These steps you have to do with every part of the texture.
If you have any questions please ask.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
and the last pic...
-
I really like this idea and would like to contribute. I am not an experianced modeller but I would like to make some small things, it would be fun! Thank you in advance!
EDIT: What programs are we allowed to use? Thanks!
EDIT 2: That is a broad question I guess. Google Sketchup is fine?
-
You can use any progam
But should model after the CCC rules.
Joey
-
It got too quiet here...
Here are two fresh renders to motivate you:
-
Looking good
-
Thanks TFM
*waits for you bridge ;D

;)
i will have a look at some more bridges soon...

Your bridge is very nice
If it is okay, I will texture it for you.
;)
i will have a look at some more bridges soon...
We can't get enough bridges ;D
Joey
-
hehe I know
Trouble is getting the sizes right...

Calatrava Bridge(http://pgoh13.com/venice_pix/calatrava_bridge.jpg)
TFM try this bridge, its quite easy (the location is near the cruise terminal and train station)

TFM try this bridge, its quite easy (the location is near the cruise terminal and train station)
Maybe...
But how high is it? What is the bridge clearance?
-
Width varies from 17.68 metres (58.0 ft) to 9.38 metres (30.8 ft)[1]
Longest span 79.72 metres (261.5 ft) (between abutments)[1]
Clearance below 7.04 metres (23.1 ft) (at high tide)[1]

Ok I have textured TFM's bridge.
It was a hard piece of work but it's finally done.
*Attached render
PS: I will upload the updated model an the texture map in the files topic.
-
Looks good ;D
-
Ah that looks nice!,
Do you think we should add a light pole on each side? Maybe one that looks like this?
i tried to make a lightpole, not great but i will add some more details
-
Thanks ;D
@TFK I think the bridge is detailed enough and in real life there are also no light poles at that bridge:
http://v1.cache8.c.bigcache.googleapis.com/static.panoramio.com/photos/original/7948121.jpg?redirect_counter=1
But I'm sure we can use your light pole on other places.
-
But what about other bridges?
-
Edited above post:
But I'm sure we can use your light pole on other places.
-
oh ok!
i shall work on my one ;D
-
*double post*
Ok i am now working on the top of the lamp post
-
can i do cruse terminal?
-
Yes you can please use images from google and take the measurements from google earth. The rules are less than 2000 vertics an a texture map of 512x512 pixel.
Joey
-
i see so good progess in work here
Succes modellers ;)
-
Thanks Oceandream ;)
Today I have done a vaporetto stop (http://lh6.ggpht.com/_rZvO28B2nu8/RUYrwawaABI/AAAAAAAAC5Q/ijKyDQRYL7U/vaporetto+stop.JPG) for Venice.
There are many of them in the whole city.
Joey
-
I have done my first lamp post put i am struggling to design the interior,
Joey here is a link to my model (i didnt know how to make a texture map for objects)
Please could you help me
-
Sorry but your model is too detailed. You should do this like your tree. You only will be able to see it from distance and so it shouldn't be detailed. Even a flat surface with a texture on it would do this job.
Joey
-
What is the max poly count?
attached a picture of the polycount of TFM`s bridge and i think it`s a little bit to detailed.
-
For a building like this bridge it would be 2000 Vertics, so we have 179 Vertics more than we need. It would be great, if you could optimize it a bit. But we should also ask TFM.
Joey
-
Here is an other update:
I have done one of the most famous buildings in Venice, the St Mark's campanile
It is very low poly modelled (only 168 vertics) but the realistic texture maks it looking very detailed.
I hope you like it.
Joey
-
Here is my daily update:
A depot building for the big commercial port. It doesn't look very nice but it looks like the real building.
I hope you like it.
It would be also nice to see some more buildings, bridges etc. from someone else.
Joey
PS: My aim is to do one building per day for the next weeks. ;D
-
i will join to if that ok with you
-
It's okay, you are on board.
We need any model we can get, it would be nice if you do some houses.
And I'm already workig on the next building, this time it's a church.
Joey
-
ok how long have i got
thanks for getting me on board
-
hey joey how do i do this as ive seen the pics u and some other guy have done what do i do
-
Just go to google earth there the whole city is in 3d but we can't use that models. So you pick up a house, bridge etc. and model it. To get the right proportions you can try to get the house in your Sketchup. After you have done a low poly model of your building, you have to do a texture map it should be 256x256 pixel. If you don't know how to do this, I wrote a tutorial how to do it. I think it's one or two pages back.
If you have problems with the texturing, I can do it for you if I have time.
To see how such buildings look like, look at the files topic (http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24156.0.html) and download the models from there.
I hope this helps you, if you have any questions, feel free to post them here.
Joey
PS: If you need a proper texture I can post some pictures from my holidays in Venice here.
-
ok thanks
-
It got to quiet here.
We haven't received any model except from mine for one week.
We need your help, without the help of anybody else this project will die.
So many times members ask for new environments - here you have the chance to model one of these for the game.
So I really hope we can go on with this since we had a great start.

What about the the soo locks Sault Ste. Sorry but we already decided which environment we model, it's Venice in Italy
Anyway I would be very nice if you would help us by doing some models.
Joey
-
Ok well what do you want me to start on
-
Sorry for the late reply, but you can read it some posts before:

And here for anyone else, who is waiting for new pics, I have attached some new.
Joey
-
looking good...
So what else is there to model?
-
Thanks, TFM
You are very good at doing bridges, so why not do the Rialto Bridge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rialto_bridge)
I think I will do a list with all things we have to do and we have done on it.
Joey
-
I will look into it ;)
But a list sounds like a good idea
-
Here is the list
Venice project oversight list:
*Main model (all the small islands, without buildings, bridges etc.)
*St Mark’s Campanile
*St Mark’s Basilica
*Rialto Bridge
*San Giorgio Maggiore (Whole Island)
*Cruise terminal
*Port buildings (depots, ferry terminal)
*Doge's Palace
*Bridge of Sighs
*Piazza San Marco
*Venetian Arsenal
*Repeatable buildings (done 3 / to do approx. 20-40)
*Repeatable bridges (done 0 / to do approx. 20)
*Other bridges (done 1 / to do ?)
*Trees
*Vaporetto stop
*Small marinas
*Other bell towers
green = done
blue = work in progress
red = to do
So if you want to model something for the environment, pick up one of the red things. If you want to do one of the blue ones, please ask before you start working then we don't get on model two times
Please tell me, if I forgot anything important.
Joey
-
hi joey can i do it on sketchup 8. i know how to make ships
-
We've got one bridge done ;)
-
oh i see i can do a ferry or something
-
hi joey can i do it on sketchup 8. i know how to make ships
Yes you can do it on Sketchup but please upload it as Collada (.dae)
You can just start with a repeatable building (256x256 pixel texture, less than 300 polys).
We've got one bridge done ;)
Sorry, I knew I forgot something. But your bridge can only be used once since it has too many polys to be repeated. ;)
Joey
-
Ahh
-
How will i now about the pixals.
-
Don't worry about the texture - keep it white - Joey is good for the textures...
-
You have to do a texture map (see attachment)
If you don't know how to do this I wrote a short tutorial how to do. Click here (http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24027.msg321669.html#msg321669)
If you want and I have time, I can do one for you. ;)
Joey
-
yh please just so i can get an i der what i have to do  :2thumbs:
-
joey i need u to check this out to see if it ok or not
here is a boat i did is that ok is not done i can get rid of it if its not what u like if u do want it what do u wont me to do to it
-
Sorry craigster1, we don't need any ships for the environment
But you could do a house from the city of Venice, Italy.
To see how such a house looks like, go to Google Earth and take a look at Venice, don't forget to turn the 3D buildings on.
Joey
-
ok how long have i got to do each building
-
It doesn't matter how long (well it should not take one year) but the most important thing is the quality of your work, so do one house and upload it here. Then we see if everything is alright and if not we will tell you how to improve your work. ;)
Joey
-
ok thank but google earth does work on my pc so wot do i do now i can do a flat roof house
-
Well there are not a lot of flat roof buildings in Venice. If you don't have Google Earth try to search for images on google. Or just take a look at the models in the files topic.
-
or can i cheat a little to see if any building are in the warehouse
-
I wouldnt do that if I were you, you would get copyright problems.
-
Yes I fully agree with Virtual Skipper NO CHEATING. If we want to get this in the game we also have to solve the copyright problems. That means everything what comes into this project must be done/owned by us.
-
fine i wish it was oxford area i ised to live there
-
fine i wish it was oxford area i ised to live there
:D
No water there though...
-
yh i know i meant for the building sorry
joey here is a bit of a house ive started
-
;D Doing some more houses today.....
-
....and they are getting more ;D ;D
-
joey was my house ok
-
Looks quite good
I think, you should get rid of that rounded roof and do one like on mine houses.
But apart from this it looks ok to me.
Joey
-
Maybe some Dutch waters...... :-[ there is still one water in Holland while vstep is a Dutch company :(
Example the IJsselmeer or Amsterdam harbour Noordzeekanaal.
-
Sorry Mslb_Eemshoorn, we decided to model Venice. But if we have great success with this one, mayby we will model another environment.
And now some updates:
Yesterday I have done the cruise terminal and four( :o) new buildings. I will upload them in the files topic soon.
Here is the updated version of the list:
Venice project oversight list:
*Main model (all the small islands, without buildings, bridges etc.)
*St Mark’s Campanile
*St Mark’s Basilica
*Rialto Bridge
*San Giorgio Maggiore (Whole Island)
*Cruise termina

*Repeatable bridges (done 0 / to do approx. 20)
*Other bridges (done 1 / to do ?)
*Trees
*Vaporetto stop
*Small marinas
*Other bell towers
green = done
blue = work in progress
red = to do
@TFM is it okay to mark the Rialto Bridge as work in progress? ;D ;D
-
Work in progress... it is ;D
-
Come's it all really in SSE or is it a private project?
Eemshoorn
-
Good Start on the cruise terminal
Concentrate and succes i wish for you modellers 8)
-
Thanks, oceandream.

-
nicely modelled :)
-
Today I have done another building of the cruise port.
Hope you like it ;)
Joey
-
I have to ask one question:
Is anyone here still interested in working on this project?
If no one will do anything during the next week, I will have to end this. The project was planned as a project for the whole community and now it turned out to a one man story, which I am not interested in.
All I wanted with this project was to give the community of Ship Sim the chance to create content for the game. So if you want to keep this project alive please go on with modelling.
I think we had a great start and I see that not everyone on this forum is interested in this special environment we model at this moment, but this project may show VSTEP that the community is really able to create new content for the game which is at the quality level they want. And after VSTEP have seen this they probably accept more 3rd party content for Ship Sim. So you can see this project as a big step forward to get your models into the game sometime in the future.
And yes, I have contacted VSTEP about this project and we will get Venice into the game if we model at the right quality level.
I really hope that this project won’t die, but as I said above I need your help!
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
I am still interested :)
Just been a bit busy recently - but we can dot this :)
-
i am still interested!,
i am also quite busy all the time but in spare time i will try to work on models for the project ;)
-
Great to hear that you are still on board.
To anyone else, don't be shy please join - we need everyone
Joey
-
Todays update:
A bell tower ;)
-
excellent design :)
-
Hey guys maybe also a idea to add classic Riva boats as environment-moored boats. (Padstow haves it in SSE )
I'm working on a looks like a Riva boat project in sketchup... and a little sloop that i can modify to wooden textures..
I will add a pic soon of my project.
Regards,
Eemshoorn

Thank you Oceandream

Good suggestion, would be great if we get your model for the environment.
As I have already said we need every model we can get
Joey
-
See above your post.
I have added pic's..
Maybe is the Bayliner Santiago also funny as an environment object.
See below
-
Very nice
The only thing is that they are to detailed for an environment, apart from this, they are great.
Joey
-
The Bayliner, but the Look like a Riva is not to detailed when i remove the engine I think or..
-
With the engine removed it would be okay for sure ;)
-
I have modified the sloop.
See the pic's, if you are interested in it, I will upload it to the upload topic.
Eemshoorn
-
Very well done, Mslb_Eemshoorn
We will use this for the small marinas of Venice.
One thing, please try to make the bow area faces 3D (see attachment).
This is the only thing I have seen so far, but if there is anything else I would modify it, if it's okay.
Joey
-
I am also working ;D
Today it's a large car park near the ferry port.
-
Very well done, Mslb_Eemshoorn

Joey
What did you exactly mean with 'bow area modifing'??
-
You only have to make a face where the yellow paint in your picture is. ;)
If there is no face at that place, parts of the bow section may be invisible in the game.
When you have done this you can upload your model and I will have a look at it.
Joey
-
I'm modyfing it ;)
-
Great
-
How must i upload it ?? Attachment?..
The BugattÃ
I have it modified and given a name..
See below..
(I'm also modyfing the Look like a Rivá...... i will show it to you later..)
Eemshoorn

Very nice :)
This are the rules for uploading in the files topic (http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24156.0.html)
In this topic you can upload all the files of the project. So everybody who wants to help us with the project can look at all our files here. If someone loses interest or doesn’t have enough time to go on with his model, he can upload it here and can say that someone else should finish it.
But please ask what type of model is needed before you post everything here. The discussion topic is
here (http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24027.0.html).
IMPORTANT NOTES:
Please upload the 3D files in Collada (.dae) format which can be easily exported for Google SketchUp or the most other 3D programs. For textures we will use JPEG (.jpg) first and in the end phase we will convert it to .dds!
Do not post anything else than your model and/or texture in this topic!
When you upload your model please put in here a screenshot or render, a short description and of course the model itself!
If you have any questions please ask them in the discussion topic (http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24027.0.html)!
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
I can't upload it, it says after a minute no topic subject ,, i'm replying in a topic an no starting a new topic...??
Whats wrong:?
-
Wired I had no problems with uploading ???
You could try it in this topic and then put in a link in the files topic to your post in this topic.
-
The same (*) error >:( occures when i upload it here.. :-[
I'm annoyed >:(
-
How big is your file, the forums max size is 2048 KB. If it's bigger you can zip it.
If this isn't the solution you could pm Mad_Fred or any other mod about the problem, maybe the know what you can do.
-
The size is 9,88 mb
How do you zip an file?......... I never use it so....i dont know how. ???
Eemshoorn
-
On Win 7 you have to click on the file with the right mouse button and then there should come something like zip, send as zip (I don't know what exactly stands there in English or any other language because I have the german version of Windows.)
I also don't know how it's in the older versions of Windows, but it should be similar.
Joey
-
I will try it again....
-
I have zipped it but now it says the file is to large ::)
-
upload it to http://uploaded.to/
and place the link here
-
Is it to detailed or something??
I want to upload it normal here... >:(
Update ooh  wait in the engine box was a engine mounted but I was totally forgotten that it was in there
The size of the zipped file is now around 1900 kb.
I will try it to upload it again and let you know when its done.
-
I think that the upload limit is about 2mb or so. 9.8mb is way over that limit.

Its done, it's uploaded.
Finally.... on the forum..
Eemshoorn
-
I will upload the look like a Riva soon.
But first i have to improve it..
-
Sketchup is a nice 3d modelling tool for the purposes of google but when I want to import it into another 3d modelling software, or make it suitable for a computer game it can be really annoying.
Here you can see what I mean. I just wanted to take a look at Mslb_Eemshoorn's Bugattà and you can see what I got as result in the attachment. The ship looked so nice in SU but you can't work properly with this type of model.
And since sketchup produces a lot of unnecasery polys the model got a poly count of 900 (you have to know that I already had removed some poly heavy parts before).
@Mslb_Eemshoorn you should redo that model it looks really great and please don't understand this wrong. You are not a bad modeller, but I think I would take less time to redo some parts of it from new than spend hours on modyfying all the small things. I would also suggest to remove the rounded parts which will be under the water surface in the game, since you won't see them at all.
Please don't get too much dissapointed by this as I already said your model is great an we need anything we get but I have to ensure that the models can be used in game.
Kind Regards
Joey
-
Is it to detailed?? ???
Why is it to detailed?
Is this good?
See below.
-
Yes your model is too deatailed. I think the lots of polys come from the many rounded things on the boat. I'm not the best at modelling hulls but you can take a look at mr robville's boat for Venice in the files topic.
Althrough the fact is that a already modyfied version of the boat has 600 polys over the limit.
-
What ... are poly's ???
-
With nothing edited we have got 110.991 :o polys.
-
With nothing edited we have got 110.991 :o polys.
woow thats allot!
Poly= Polygons
-
Ok, I have removed something...
Just see ...not to many polys or.??
I have uploaded the improved file.
Eemshoorn
-
Downloaded it and it still had over 100.000 polys so I nearly worked the whole day and modified it. Now I got it down to 299 triangles which is under the 300 limit ;D
-
Here is my latest model - the Santa Maria della Salute. ;)
-
So now it will be accepted in the environment...?
In the Padstow environment are completely fishinvessels added..... more detailed than my model..
I will upload the other model today, the look like a riva.
-
Yes your model will be accepted ;)
I only need to texture it and the I will upload the improved version.
-
OK
Railto Bridge
That was surprisingly tough...
-
WOW very nice, as usual.
I hope, I have time to texture it as soon as you put it up.
-
Thanks
uploaded in the file thread :)
-
Downloading... :)
-
We have a small poly problem (about 40.000 over the limit), but I think we can easily solve it by replacing the railing (is it also called railing on a bridge? but I think you know what I mean).
I will take a look at the problem. ;)
And here the once more updated list:
*Main model (all the small islands, without buildings, bridges etc.)
*St Mark’s Campanile
*St Mark’s Basilica
*Rialto Bridge
*San Giorgio Maggiore (Whole Island)
*Cruise terminal
*Port buildings (depots, ferry terminal)
*Doge's Palace
*Bridge of Sighs
*Piazza San Marco
*Venetian Arsenal
*Repeatable buildings (done 7 / to do approx. 20-40)
*Repeatable bridges (done 0 / to do approx. 20)
*Other bridges (done 1 / to do ?)
*Trees

ouch
i tired to keep the polys down, but its hard with all them round columns :/
-
Today I have modified and textured TFM's Rialto Bridge and Mslb_Eemshoorn's Rivá.
Pics attached...
-
Looks good :)
-
Thanks ;D
-
Why do you cover it?..that looks poor you can better cover it with wood... ;)
I'm making some other little boats for you, i will keep you update when i have made something...
Eemshoorn
-
I covered it because all faces were not 3d and so I decided to cover it with this plastic. If you don't like it I can change it but I think it is okay since it would loo boring if it is all made out of wood.
-
Colour it wood, same as the boat itself.. ;) Wich program do you use for this.? :P
Eemshoorn
-
Ok I will change it ;)
I use Blender (http://www.blender.org/) it's a very powerful and good open source software. :)
-
Which version do you like more the normal or the darker wood?
Attached two differnt renders..
-
My 3rd boat i have made in 1 hour....... for the Venice project.
A Danish simple sloop made by myself....
-
The bright one ;)
-
There were not many updates the last days because I was busy with school. Anyhow here is a quite big update:
I finished the main model of the city today, that model are over 100 single islands :o
I hope you like it.
And I would be very nice if someone else would help to model new parts for the environment. Here is the list with the high priority parts:
*Main model (all the small islands, without buildings, bridges etc.)
*St Mark’s Campanile
*St Mark’s Basilica
*Rialto Bridge
*San Giorgio Maggiore (Whole Island)
*Cruise terminal
*Port buildings (depots, ferry terminal)
*Doge's Palace
*Bridge of Sighs
*Piazza San Marco
*Venetian Arsenal
*Repeatable buildings (done 7 / to do approx. 20-40)
*Repeatable bridges (done 0 / to do approx. 20)
*Other bridges (done 1 / to do ?)
*Trees
*Vaporetto stop
*Small marinas
*Other bell towers (done 1 / to do max. 5)
*Santa Maria della Salute (church)
green = done
blue = work in progress
red = to do
Here is a pic of the main model:

This project looks very interesting. I guess that I will give it a go... at least for a little while. Tell me what I need to make and I will do it. A picture of what I am making would also be nice...
-
Hi billybob1417,
great that you are interested in this project and it's even better that you want to help us. I would suggest that you first choose something from the list in the above post and then I can give you detailed instructions how to do.
In the beginning I wouldn't choose too difficult models, but if you want you can also do the harder ones. ;)
I hope this helps you and if you have any questiones feel free to ask them.
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
I am profieciet at sketchup so just tell give me something to make and I will do. I don't really care if it is a generic building or something else.
-
OK sounds good.
Here is my suggestion the Doge's Palace - it's a very famous and big building which is next to the St Mark’s Basilica.
I attached two pictures of it one that I took and one from google earth. To see more details of the building you can google it or go to google earth there you can see it as 3d building.
The rules for modelling are: not more than 2000 polygons for the whole building, so don't make it too detailed.
And if you want to texture it you have to use a 512x512 pixel texture map, if you don't want to do it, I will texture it.
I think it would be the best to show some screenshots of your model before you upload it.
Please let me know if it is okay so, to avoid complications.
Joey
-
Here my next boat :the Enzó
Maybe its to detailed but we can try.. 8)
See pic's.
Eemshoorn
-
No activity for 2 days...? are you all sleeping... ??? ;D
Eemshoorn
-
Not sleeping but having a lot of tests. Tomorrow is English :P
Anyway may post an update later today.
-
Hmm I am thinking what to model now... !:)
-
What about a repeatable bridge, which could be anywhere in the city. Shouldn't be to hard: Less details (max. 300 polys)
Something like this:
or this
(http://www.hickerphoto.com/data/media/183/bridge-walk_12436.jpg)
or both
-
Top one is better poly wise...
the railings would take it over the top...
-
Thats true
*currently rendering a pic for you
-
OK thanks
Got any details? Height width etc?
-
Sorry it's only a picture from the web but you can use it as reference for modelling and I can scale it to the right measurements.
Attachet the long awaited render
-

Well Im still looking here everyday
As i'm happy to see this topic gets new updates mostly :)

I know that you are all waiting for the render of the day ;D ;D
Here it is:

Here it is:
is that my tree?
yeauh you are using it :)
-
Yes it's yours I have just modified it a bit

WOW! that's going to be nice! 8)
Is the enzo a usable object or is it to detailed...? Tell me.
-
Is the enzo a usable object or is it to detailed...? Tell me.
Sorry I didn't have enough time to take a look at it. But as soon as I have time I will tell you how it is.
-
Oke.
Eemshoorn
-
Hey everybody,
I guess that I am done with the Doge's Palace model for now...
I know that SU creates a lot more polys than it shows, so I was very careful in adding polys and so it is not very detailed. I just did a quick texture on it and it looked pretty good, so I kind of figured that it was time to send it out.
@ Joey: I only did the texture for the front and the side of the palace. I do not currently have time to do any more work on the model, so feel free to update however you feel necessary (or just don't use it if you don't like it)
P.S. I know that you asked me to attach an image but I am new to this I do not know how...
-
Click on additional options and there will be the option for attaching a file. ;)
Eemshoorn
-
@ Mslb I have just checked your Enzo and it is too polyheavy we nearly got 20 000 and I don't see any parts which could be modified easily. So I'm very sorry but I can't use this model.
@ billybob You can upload your model in the files topic (http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24156.msg321285.html#msg321285). There you also find the rules for uploading. Mslb told you how to upload the file - it's easy.
If you have any further questions feel free to ask them.
Joey
-
Oké ::)
Why i cant remove my post out of the file topic..? >:(
This was not before. ::)
-
Ah alright.
Didn't see that button...
I will show the model before I upload it.
To be honest, I am not impressed with the quaility of this model, but I do not have time to go back and work on it. I would have time, however, to go and do simple repeatable objects.
I also made part of a texture map that would work for the front and side.
-
On the rest of the forum it can, and here it cannot ::)
-
@ billybob: Your model looks really nice  . I think the number of details is okay and the texture also doesn't look bad. In my previos post you see the link to the files topic please upload it there and I will take a look at it / modify it. ;)
@ Mslb: Thats wired. I can remove my posts here and in the files topic, but that could be because I started it. But it isn't a big problem if you can't remove it. You could edit it and say that this model won't be used.
Joey
-
Do you also took a look at the blue sloop, the Danish sloop..?
-
The polycount of the Sloop looks quite okay but here we have the problem that the faces of the hull aren't 3d. So they are only visible from one side.
I attached two images to show you what I mean.
-
It's always something.... >:( ::)
aaarghhhhh :C
-
Well modelling can be really annoying sometimes. But your other models, the Bugattà and the Rivá are very good and will be used for the environment.
I also downloded billybob's Doges Palace and modified it a bit it's looking good and I hope I can texture it today.
-
Oke now we will see.... :P 8)
-
I also downloded billybob's Doges Palace and modified it a bit it's looking good and I hope I can texture it today.
OK sounds good. I will have time here and there to do some modeling so if you need something else modelled, let me know. I would prefer to make a repeatable model this time.
-
Yes your palace looks really good
For the repeatable buildings you can look at the ones which are in the files topic and then do one yourself.
Here is the updated version of the list:
*Main model (all the small islands, without buildings, bridges etc.)
*St Mark’s Campanile
*St Mark’s Basilica
*Rialto Bridge
*San Giorgio Maggiore (Whole Island)
*Cruise terminal
*Port buildings (depots, ferry terminal)
*Doge's Palace
*Bridge of Sighs
*Piazza San Marco
*Venetian Arsenal
*Repeatable buildings (done 8 / to do approx. 20-40)
*Repeatable bridges (done 0 / to do approx. 20)
*Other bridges (done 1 / to do ?)
*Trees
*Vaporetto stop
*Small marinas
*Other bell towers (done 1 / to do max. 5)
*Santa Maria della Salute (church)
green = done
blue = work in progress
red = to do
The list is getting more and more green ;D
I also attched a render of your finished model.
Joey
-
how does this look for the repeatable bridge?
-
Looks good ;)
-
Ahh Ok Thanks - I will upload it :)
-
I downloaded it and checked the polycount it's 165 which is really good. I hope I have time to texture it today.
Joey
-
Ahh thats good :)
Feel free to resize it to fit where they need to go :)
-
It got really quiet here no updates for one week, this is my fault but I didn't have any time this week.
Anyway I am back and as a little present for you I got a banner for the project. All participants and fans of the project can put it into their signatures, if they want.
Here is the image I uploaded it on my website
(http://www.weltderschiffe.at/fileadmin/user_upload/bilder/banner.jpg)
Here is the link: http://www.weltderschiffe.at/fileadmin/user_upload/bilder/banner.jpg
I hope you like it.
I also textured TFM's bridge and put it on the environment. To motivate you for continuing the project I attached some new renders.
I really hope we can finish this project.
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
What is left to do now?
-
Let's have a look at the list:

We still need some small bridges but if you don't want to do a bridge what about a yacht marina which looks like the ones in Marseille or on the Solent. You can also do something completely different like a building, if you want.
Joey
-
Hmm - I will have a look at the yacht marina :)
-
Ok sounds good.
Here are some informations and pictures.
In the last picture you where it will be placed in the model. In the first you see how it looks on google earth and the second one is just a photo of the marina.
If you have any questions feel free to ask them.
-
Here is an update:
I have done the buildings surrounding the St. Mark's Square - it actually looks quite good.
Here is a render:
-
woow that looks great!
-
Thanks :)
-
Working on the marina
There are a lot of marker poles which extend all the way to another bit of Land - do you want ,me to place these, or shall I just put a few with the marina and include it as another item?
-
I think it would be best if you just put a few aroud the marina, because these marker poles are placed around the whole city. I will make a very low poly model of one or two of them and then place them like the buildings everywhere where they should be.
-
OK Will do :)
-
Joey can i also do a Marina please..
Pick any..
Could you please show me which one i could do?
I have free time
-
Ok you could do this one:
pic one is from the model and pic two from google earth.
-
Ok i will do that one.
It might not be to scale but i hope you could jjust scale it to the right size
-
Joey i will do a Small marina, do you have any for me to do?
And ... Can it be simple? I'm not the best of modelers.
-
Marina under construction... over halfway there...
-
Its nice made mates ;D
-
Looks very nice TFM
@ dexter7: I'm sorry but there isn't any other marina in Venice apart from the two that are already being done.
Joey
-
Ive done a Ferry Terminal Building ... do we have to texture them ourselfs?
-
If you want to do the texture yourself, you can do it. If you don't want I will do it for you. ;)
-
i would but i dont know how ...
-
(http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/1892269.jpg)
that building is the one i've tried to make ....
-
That's very nice, Ryan
Don't worry about the texture, I will figure it out for you.
PS: the ship in the background is my favourite ferry, the Lefka Ori ;D
-
ok do i put it in the files topic?
-
That will be fine Ryan
Nearly done the Marina - just the legs and two ramps to do
-
There is allot of mooring poles in my marina..
Should i do all of them or just some?
-
@TFM: looks great :2thumbs: I hope you can keep the polys under the 2000 limit with all those details.
@TFK: I think it would be better if you only do some of them and try to make them very low poly. So don't make them rounded, just with four edges.
I am very happy that this project is so popular these days, keep up the great work guys
Joey
-
this is a part of what i finished:
-
Looks good
Remember it shouldn't take more than 2000 polys
-
Looks good
Remember it shouldn't take more than 2000 polys
i deleted curves and just done diagonal lines or straight ones
-
I have worked very long to get the polycount of TFM's marina down and I finally managed it to modify from over 15.000 down to 1995 polys.
I'm sorry that I had to remove lots of details, but I think it still looks okay.
Here is a screenshot:
-
Sorry
-
No problem, everything is done now and I like it very much.
I didn't start this project only to get my environment into the game, I also wanted to do something for this great community.
I really hope your marina gets a texture tomorrow ;D
Joey
-
does the pier need to have poles underneath i or should i just leave it as a plain wall structure?
-
On the google earth pictures it looks like the pier floats on the water, so no, you don't need to do so.
-
On the google earth pictures it looks like the pier floats on the water, so no, you don't need to do so.
So it will look the same like TFM's? piers
-
I don't know if we need this or not, but I have made one of the decorative columns that is in St. Marks Square.
I can do the other one (with the person on it) when I have time later this week.
I will not upload it until I get the go-ahead so here it is:
-
@ billybob: That looks great and the polycount seems to be very low
@ TFK: yes, more like TFM's piers but not that high. They should look like the piers in the Hamburg environment.
Joey
-
Should I make the one with the person on it too?
-
Yes that would be great!
As some of you may have seen I am going on holiday for one week, so I won't be able to do anything for this project.
Joey
-
Any chance of a updated to do list before you go?
-
Yes here is the list:
*Main model (all the small islands, without buildings, bridges etc.)
*St Mark’s Campanile
*St Mark’s Basilica
*Rialto Bridge
*San Giorgio Maggiore (Whole Island)
*Cruise terminal

Everyone who wants to do something let it know the others by posting here. As I said above I won't be very active the comeing week.

how can whe vote ??
martnl

Voting is over, they have choosen for Venice :)
-
thx, to bad.

Hi all,
after a long time I am back with some UPDATES to let you see that the project is still alive. I also hope that I can motivate you with this pictures to continue working on the forum environment project ;)
So here are some fresh renders.
TFM's Marina has been textured and placed in the city (I know that the scaling of the trees and buildings needs to be fixed, I only put them there to make it look a bit better.)
The St. Mark's Basilica, the most famous church in Venice.
And finally a progress shot of my latest model, the mainland and some other islands surrounding the city.
I hope you like the pictures
Joey
-
Its looking good :)
-
Thanks, TFM
I really hope to get more people for this project since so many small details are still missing.
We need everyone for this project
-
What sort of small details are missing? :)
-
The main "problem" are the small repeatable buildings. But we can also need some simple marker poles, repeatable bridges, some small docks and piers and at least one repeatable church.
This list will get longer as soon as I notice some things. :)
If you notice anything that you would like to add I will take a look at it.
-
Well what sort of buildings are you looking for for the repeatable ones?
-
The model itself shouldn't be very detailed and isn't that hard to do but it would be nice if you coould do the texture map to.
You don't need to map it on the model just create the model(less than 300 poly) and the texture map(256x256).
For the textures I will upload some typical Venetian windows, doors and at cg textures you can find textures for the color of the backround. (cgtextures>plaster>plaster coloured)
-
Ahh OK
What do Venetian buildings typically look like?
-
Best thing is to look at google earth the whole city is modelled in 3d.
Here are two screenshots from google earth:
-
they all look different
theres a few "cubes with roofs" i see...
-
they all look different
theres a few "cubes with roofs" i see...
Yes that's true they aren't hard to model, but we need a lot of them. I will post that texture things a bit later, but you will get them as soon as possible.
I got another update: all large and famous buildings have been added to the St Mark's Square:
The ground texture is only there to give you a better contrast and I will replace it with a better, when I find one.
Joey
-
I got the first texture pack for the repeatable buildigs - some typical Venetian windows. The scaling of the windows is not the same for all, you will have to correct it here and there. You can edit them if you want but only use them for the forum environment project and not for any other models. You can find most of the other parts for your texture at www.cgtextures.com.
I hope you can use these texture parts to create a lot of different building textures.
Joey
-
hey joey is there any this simple i can work on?
-
Yes you could try to model some low poly repeatable buildings like the ones I attached and if it is possible it would be very nice if you texture them with a 256x256 texture map, if not it's no problem. When you create such a building don't do to much details - do a few cubes with a roof an it, probably a balcony but windows and doors don't need to be modelled all that you can get with a nice texture.
It would be great if you could do one or more models for this project
Joey
-
Alright thanks Joey I'll have it done by Friday. How do i get the textures?
-
Hi dexter7,
You can get the textures from google earth by clicking on the house button in the material window (fig.1). Then click right on the texture part you want to save. After this select export texture and save it as .jpg (fig.2).
When you got all textures you need put them on a 256x256 textre sheet and attach them to your post in the files topic.
Joey
PS: The model is not made by me, I just took it from the warehouse.
-
 I should have said that I posted it in the files topic.
-
Looks good chaps (though I'm sure that tfk will be along soon to tell me I shouldn't be telling you that)
What's the commercial google licence for doing all this btw?
-
Looks good chaps (though I'm sure that tfk will be along soon to tell me I shouldn't be telling you that)
What's the commercial google licence for doing all this btw?
We don't need a licence since we are modelling anything ourselves and the textures are from photos, that I took in Venice or from CG textures. So I don't see any need for a licence.
You probably got confused with the two pictures I posted for dexter, this building was only to show him how to get the textures from SU and I never used it for the environment.
Anything we do here is following the rules of the Content Creation Contest, which can be found here (http://download.shipsim.com/Extremes/contest/ShipSimExtremes_Environment_and_Vessel_Contest_Rules.pdf), to be sure that this environment is meeting all the rules to come into the game.
Joey
-
Oh, ok. Best of luck. I'm afraid that if it makes it into shipsim and thus becomes a commerical venture, will require a google licence.
Anyway, looking good.
-
Google... Licence...
How so?
-
If you are using google earth generated stuff mapped into sketchup you will surely need a commercial licence.
-
Ohhhhhhhhhh drat... :-\
-
If it gets in thatll be the responsibility of vstep though.
-
Or you could just finish off the Pride instead... and I'll t**t anyone that tries to stop you.
-
If it gets in thatll be the responsibility of vstep though.
Ahh thats OK
my 493MB of Spain is safe for now then... ;D
As is Venice ;D
-
Ahh thats OK
my 493MB of Spain is safe for now then... ;D
As is Venice ;D
Like I said, the Spain part- if anyone steps in your way I will nut them, especially Bilbao (Santcrutzi) but also Santander (PROVIDING you complete the Pride of Santander (ex Mariella)... ) )
-
If you are using google earth generated stuff mapped into sketchup you will surely need a commercial licence.
As I already said we aren't useing any material from google Earth. I modelled the terrain by hand with Blender and used a google earth image only for reference. This image will never be included in the environment.
I hope everything is clear now.
-
is there anything else i can do?
-
You could do a low poly model of the church Redentore which looks like this:
(picture not by me)
If you want more pictures goole it or take a look at google earth.
Joey
-
alright thanks joey i'll have it done in i'm guessing 5 days
-
:) Hello Folks,
my attention has only just been drawn to the topic, and I don`t know if the voting has closed.
If not, may I also put forward two more suggestions for scenery?
Alesund, in Norway because it is on the route of the Norwegian Coastal Cruise, it is a very colourful place, and it has the additional attraction of mountainous terrain:
-
:)
......and Rio de Janeiro, because it is so iconic as a scenery and location. It has a vast bay for exploration by smaller craft, and also has commercial docks, marinas, and is visited by cruise liners:
-
the voting has closed and i might be a bit longer for the church Redentore
-
@ dexter: No problem you get as much time you want.
Slowly but surely I start adding small details to the environment. Here are new pics:
The big Vaporetto stop at Tronchetto
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/dock_tronchetto1.jpg?t=1305648729)
Another image. Here you can see that the railing is very detailed but I used alpha mapping so it isn't polyheavy at all.
A ferry dock which is also located at Tronchetto. I wonder why TFM hasn't found this one ;D. It's not so clear visible but I also used my alpha railing ;)
I hope you like it.
Joey
-
:O~
I missed the ferry dock?
-
:) I like what I see already. The three dolphins adjacent the ferry dock are a nice touch too, helping to give that extra bit of realism.
-
Thanks :)
-
I won't be able to work on this project for another week :'(
On Saturday I will go to Eastbourne, UK for one week with my class. I don't think that I will see any ships, but I hope it will be nice anyway.
But this shouldn't stop you from working on the project, of course. ;D
Joey
-
:) Then I trust Eastbourne will extend a warm Sussex welcome to you! Enjoy your trip.
-
Hello all!
I'm so sorry i haven't noticed this topic earlyer, i could give some suggestions for envirorments. Personaly i would like to see Dubrovnik in SSE, but the voting is over!
Still, i must say i'm setisfied with Venice very, very much! I like her, it is the major port on the Adriatic Sea. All the Mediteranean cruises starts and ends in Venice ( which makes Venice owerloaded with cruise ships each day ), also all the ferry lines for Croatia, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Spain and some other lines also starts from venice. There is also many yachts & megayachts in Venice. Also Venice is in general a very intersting & beautiful town, also it's port is great, and preofessional.
In general, Venice would be a great envirorment fro SSE because it's very intersting for sail, it would be the first Adriatic port which would open some new world destinations.
If you need help?
Well, i don't know if i can help, i'm modeling a little bit, i started modeling few months ago, and i'm still in Google Sketchup ( curently i'm working on my model of a cruise ship ). But my modeling skills are not very well, but maybe i can do something.
Also, i live in Rovinj, which is 1 hour from Venice ( traveling by hoovercraft ), also i wanted to visited Venice, so if you need some pictures, maybe i can visit the port of Venice and take some pictures.
I would really like to have Venice in SSE, a first envirorments on the Adriatic sea which is also very close to my home port. ;)
Many kind regards.
Capt. Mitch

Hi,
I'm back from a very nice trip to England and now I start working on the project again.
@ Captain. Mitch: I'm glad you like the project. It would be wonderful, if you could help us by taking some pictures from Venice. I'm going to Venice in the end of July and it would be great if you have some time before that.
Please reply if you are still interested and you have time then I will give you some tips for photographing textures.
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
Maybe some of the Titanic's stops? Southamptons already added, how about Cherbourg, France, Queenstown, Ireland, Cape Race, Halfax and the former Harland and Wolff Shipyards?
-
Here is a new render from Venice. Tronchetto island will be finished soon.

looking good

Thank you

The next UPDATE is here ;)
I have worked a lot on the arsenale and placed a lot new buildings on the main terrain. The main problem at the moment are the textures since I ran out of photos from Venice but I need them to make very accurate textures.
Here is a new render from the arsenale:
And here are two images from the same angle - one from april and one from today. Spot the difference ;)
It would be great if this project could be finished in this autumn.
But to achieve this aim I need your help again. We need a lot more activity here!
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
Here are some new renders from today, which look a lot better than the old ones.
I hope you like them,
Joey

That looks very nice Joey. Venice is a small City but It's very hard to create It for a Shipsimulation Game. This requires a lot of hard work and patience. My respect, I like It. :2thumbs:

Thor

Looking Superb Joey :)
-
Thanks, TFM and Thor2
I'm glad you like it.

From now on I want to post updates every day or at least every second day.
Here is the one for today:
Look for matches:

Looks good :)
Is there a updated list of things still needed?
-
I will post it later I'm curently on my Iphone.
-
Ahh OK

Joey
-
Ahh OK - I will have a look at it tomorrow :)
-
Hi all,
Here are some new renders showing a ferry leaving the port and sailing through the city.
Some objects are not scaled correctly at the moment - please ignore them I'm editing them at the moment.
There are also a lot of empty spaces they will be filled with buildings after I go to Venice in August.
Hope you like the new pics,
Joey
-
It would be nice if vstep adds it in the game..
-
IM BACK
After nearly a month with no updates.
Though I've been on vacation I continued the project.
At first here is new aerial view render. You can see I have added a lot of new buildings if you compare it to the last aerial shots. I also added all grass/park areas.
Here are the two biggest objects of the city so far the end of the bridge connecting Venice with the mainland and Venice's railway station.
And here is a render of the next thing to do, texturing the harbour walls.
I hope you like it.
Joey
-
Looks really good :)
-
Thanks, but there is still a lot to do.
I haven't got a model from a forum member since may 12th but I hope this will get better after the summer.
-
:(
Whats left to do then?
-
Since you like doing bridges, it would be nice if you could do another repeatable bridge.
Like this:
Or this:
If you want I can texture it for you.
Joey
-
I'll do the unfinished marina
-
Does that top bruidge have any railings? :O
-
@TFM: This bridge was build to block drunken people from going to the neighbour island*, but it looks very poly friendly. ;D
*that was a joke
@dexter7: I would be great if you could do the marina. I sent a PM to TFK some time ago but he never answered, so I think you have to do the whole thing from the beginning.
Joey
-
;D
Defintley looks poly friendly
Any idea of the size of it?
-
gee i'd like to sail a gondola in this enviroment
-
@TFM:
There is a Sketchup model in the 3d warehouse there you should find all measurements you need. Here is the link - http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=191fece1471550d591bfeeca48a08b93&prevstart=0 - but remember we are not allowed to use this model in the environment.
Joey
-
Ahh its called Devils Bridge then :)
-
@dexter7 we got a gondola as static model for the environment - made by mr.robville
(http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=24156.0;attach=91387;image)
-
On this render you can see the area that will be accessible in the Venice environment. You can explore the city itself and you have access to the open sea. The model itself will be even larger than this but you won't be able to sail there.
I'm also looking forward to see your models TFM and dexter
Joey
-
How does this look?
-
Looks very good, TFM.
It just needs a texture and we have got another nice bridge for Venice
-
Ahh OK thanks :)
Will upload it now
-
The same bridge one hour later :)
-
Nice ;D
-
Thanks :)
-
Only an hour :o. thatd take me days  or id become frustrated half way through and start yelling at tecnology >:( ...again lol looks great!!!! ;)
-
is this all you need?
Black equals parts I made I'll ad textures.
-
Looks very nice, Dexter
Greetings from the warm and sunny Greece
Joey
-
Do I have to do the rest?
-
If you want, you can do the rest, but if not I do it ;)
-
yeah I'll do the rest
-
That sounds very good
Looking forward to see the end result.
Joey
-
Hi all,
I'm back with some updates and about 500 fresh pictures from Venice, so I have got enough pics to start working again.
But now some renders...
The car park at Piazza le Roma
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/railwa_station1.jpg)
The Railway Station of Venice
If anyone is interested I have got many pics of the real thing (bridges, houses...) that you can use for modelling - feel free to ask for some pictures if you need them
Joey
-
Looks great
-
Thanks, TFM ;D
Here are some new pics:
The ferry and cruise port is nearly finished (just some details to add)
Not a render, but a sreenshot. Anyway a new bridge - Ponte Longo (long bridge).
And for you Ferry Man or any one else who is interested, I have got a big project: The Ponte della Libertà .
A bridge connecting Venice with the mainland. So if I see interest I will post more info. One thing I can say now for this one there is no poly limit ;)
Kind Regards,
Joey
-
No poly limit...?
How so...?
-
Well the bridge is about 3 kilometers long and looking like this:
So it is impossible to model it with only 2000 triangles and add details.
Thats why I decided to set no limit for this one and look how it ends up.
As I said it's a big project ;D
-
three kilometers... :o
But would VSTEP accept that though?
-
Of course we should try to not spend too many polys on it, but if you look at the environments in SSE you see that the terrain has a lot of polys so lets see this bridge as part of the terrain.
-
Good Idea
-
Ok, so I will give you some more info tomorrow.
-
Ahh OK thanks :)
-
Here should be some usefull information:
You don't have to model the whole bridge, since I have done the Venice end of the bridge. The part you do is exactly 3 kilometers long and 44 meters wide.
This image shows the part to be modelled
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/2.jpg)
The bridge consists of 4 lanes street and four railway tracks, the are seperated by a small wall (about 1m) on both sides there is also a wall likt that one.
In this image you can see the basic structure of the bridge - five archs then one big column and again five archs. I think we should simplify it like this, so actually you only have to make one section and repeat it untill you reached 3 km. (The measurements are in the image above)
Here you can see the bridge from the side - it is very low, but I'm sorry I have no measurements for the height.
I hope this is enough info for the moment
Joey
-
Ahh OK
yes - thats enough
I think the best thing is as you said to make one "block section" and repeat it :)
Do you have a view of the railway side...? :)
-
It's not easy to find pics of this bridge. The quality isn't the best.
for larger one http://v4.cache7.c.bigcache.googleapis.com/static.panoramio.com/photos/original/53738578.jpg
-
That will do :) Thanks
Does it need the pantographs modelled?
-
No - I will do them with an alpha map ;)
-
Ahh Ok :)
-
Hi all,
here are some new pics from Venice
Since school has started again I don't have that much time but I'll try my best to finish the modelling by February 2012 - the first anniversary of the project.
Anyway here are the pics
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/small_bridge1.jpg)
A small bridge together with some other buildings (note harbour wall isn't textured yet)
The Ponte Lavaneri - another bridge
@ TFM and Dexter I hope I'll see you models soon - I'm sure they will be great
If anyone else is intersted in helping us please contact me here.
Joey
-
Looks good
Do I have to do the curved bit of the bridge of just the straight section?
-
Also
Basic Bridge done :)
-
The bridge looks great and not too poly heavy
Looks good
Do I have to do the curved bit of the bridge of just the straight section?
Thanks :)
I have done the curved bit already ;)
-
Ahh OK
Bridge is now finished modelling wise I think...
-
Yes it looks perfect
So I'll do the texturing and it can be added to the environment.
-
:thumbs:If the bridge is too long I can easily lenghten/shirten it by taking out components too :)
Where is the file topic? I've lost it
-
Here it is: http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,24156.25.html
There were not many models during the last weeks, so it's more at the bottom of the board ;)
-
Shame
But Venice is now coming along I think...
-
Yes now we have done more than the half of modelling work, I think.
Thanks for uploading the bridge I will try to texture it as soon as possible, but I'm not at home at the moment.
-
No problem
-
Ok - the longest bridge of Venice is now officially finished.
Here are the first renders and screenshots:
Can you see the end? ;D
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/ponte_lliberta.jpg)
Without the overhead wires
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/ponte_lliberta_pantographs.jpg)
The finished bridge with overhead wires.
This screenshot gives you a feeling of the bridge's size. It's almost as long as the city.
More updates will follow soon - including dexters marina and some other cool things.
Joey
-
Woow very nice Awesome!
Its quite a big area..
I dont really think the large land area is that important
But the port entrance is quite a nice thing if that can fit on the map..
Large ships would love to go through the big port entrance and sail along to Venice
-
Thanks :)

You are right.
The large land area at the left side won't get many details as I won't be possible to access this area with you ship. The port entrance will be modelled out more detailed as well as the city and the cruise and ferry port.
Here is an older screenshot of the accessible area of the environment:

Hi all I have got some NEW RENDERS
Here is the finished and textured version of Dexter's marina:
The Molino Stucky it actually looks like the buildings in Hamburg
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/molino_stucky.jpg)
Another random image
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/many_buildings.jpg)
Hope you like it
Joey
PS I have got another big job for anyone who is interested.
-
Thats looking really good now Joey :)
Whats the big project...?
-
Thanks, TFM :)
The project would be San Michele, the graveyard island of Venice. You could make it in parts (first the ground structure, then the buildings, then details, and so on)
There is again no poly limit for this one.
Here is alink to Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isola_di_San_Michele
If you are intersted I can post more pictures and information.
-
Very nice Update Joey, especially with the new texturing and all these buildings. Very good work. :2thumbs:
Regards
Thor
-
Thanks a lot, Thor
I'm currently texturing the rest of the harbour walls but this will take a while because they are a few kilomerters long.
-
I'm sorry, it seems that I have forgotten to post the textures! It looks Wonderful! :2thumbs:
Edit: I hate to ask now, but what is the polycount?
-
Thanks Dexter.
Don't worry about the textures, that was no problem.
I don't konw the polycount at the moment, because I'm at school.
Joey
-
another gnarly model / work in progress
we always have venice in the backyard after every rain
-
Thanks WM, I'm glad you like it.
-
Probably he just wants a fresh render
So here you got one :
I hope you like it ;)
More pics will follow later but now I have to go back to school.
-
Looks good
How far along are we now?
-
would there be any suitable place for oceana to dock? she is awfully big....
-
Hi!
First congratulations with the great work!!!
Looks wonderful!
Are you designing the whole lagoon or only the Island of Venice?
Please make the cruise terminal very realistic, then it will be as if you are on a real cruise ;D
Are you going to send the environment to VSTEP when it's finished?
Or will you wait until the next CCC (if it ever comes) ?
Captain007 :captain:
-
Thanks all
How far along are we now?
We are good i time, but I don't think it will be finished before next year.
would there be any suitable place for oceana to dock? she is awfully big....
Thats a good question. There is a dock which would be big enough but the main problem is the depth. So I don't think it's possible.
Hi!
First congratulations with the great work!!!

Captain007 :captain:
Yes, we are modeling the whole lagoon without the industrial port. So you can enter the lagoon from the sea and explore the beautiful city of Venice.
I'm trying my best to model everything as detailed as possible and if you look a few pages back you will find some renders of the cruise terminal, but remember everything is work in progress.
If there is another CCC I will enter it fur sure, if not I'll send it to VSTEP.
I hope all questions are answered now and keep looking at the topic there will be some new renders soon.
Kind Regards,
Joey

Very, very, very nice!!! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
I love the bridges! Will the RIB's fit underneath them?
The houses are just great! Keep it going!! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:
-
Wow Joey, this environment is a masterpiece. Very good work. :2thumbs: I am sure this will look very nice in a modern game engine. :captain:
Regards
Thor

Thanks a lot, guys

Hi all,
Today I finished the San Michele island, the cemetery of Venice. This time I show the differnt steps it took me to make this island.
First I modelled the basic shape of the island.
Then I added some texture
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/cemetery3.jpg)
The graveyard wall and the main entrance were also modelled
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/cemetery4.jpg)
Then I placed some other buildings onto the island
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/cemetery5.jpg)
As a finishing touch about 250 cypresses and countless tombstones were added
I hope you like it,
Joey
-
Looks nice, Joey!
-
how long did it take to apply all those trees and tombstones?
-
Thanks a lot VS
how long did it take to apply all those trees and tombstones?
I don't know about the trees and tombstones but the whole island took two days to model and texture.
I will post some more renders tomorrow ;)
-
:o Just amazing!
I can't say anything else!
-
Thanks, Captain007 :)
-
Updates? I'd like to see it in SS!
EDIT: Is there anything I could do that in not too complicated?
-
I have got some big updates ;D
I'll upload some renders later because I have to go to school.
It would be very nice if you could do a small bridge or a repeatable building, both not very complicated to do.
The bridge should look like this one:
For buildings just look a the renders of my buildings
Joey
-
You'll like this Joey :)
-
Looks quite interesting so far ;D
I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. ;)
-
Here is a little something I have been working on for the last few hours...
-
Looks good Dexter but unfortunately I have already included this marina to the final model, by using your version 1 of the model :(
Anyway I have got some FRESH RENDERS :o
(http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n523/Lefka_Ori/51211_1.jpg)

I hope you like it.
Joey
-
Ahh wow! Fantastic job :2thumbs:
How much left now?
-
:2thumbs: I can't wait to see it in SS!
-
:2thumbs: I can't wait to see it in SS!
that is if it gets into SS..... :(
-
Well that's right if it even gets into SS...
-
Double post!
Joey, is this marina done? if not, I'll start it immediately!
-
The breakwater and these lighthouse like things are done already, but the mooring poles and jetties are not done so far. ;)
Here is a pic from the model:
-
Superb
How much is left to do now? Starting to look near done now :)
-
Indeed it is! I'll do the mooring poles and the jetties.
-
Thank you TFM and all the others for your nice words.
How much is left to do now? Starting to look near done now :)
Well I just need to add some more houses and then al the small details like jetties mooring poles static boats and so on.
But I think we can finish it within the beginning of next year. :)
-
Excellent :)
-
Here are the mooring poles.
EDIT: I can whip off some mooring poles in less the twenty minutes! So tell me if you need any done.
-
Looks good
It would be cool if you could apply a basic wood texture to them 256x256 pixels
Like this
(https://www.theimagefile.com/v/tp/178/251/5325547050_4_mooring-pole-poles-canal.jpg)
And if you like mooring poles you could try something like this too:

This project looks really, really nice and all!
But there is only one question I have: What are the chances that this Venice environment will be in SSE?
I mean, seeing by how TFM's project is being ignored... :-\
-
Well I have already contacted Frank about the project some time ago and he was quite interseted in it. Our strategy is a bit differnt to the others most people just say I want this or that in the game but we provide a high quality, game ready model.
Of course he didn't promise anything but he told me that it's more likely to get something like this into the game than just a requst.
At least he didn't ignore me :)
And probably there will be another CCC sometime in the future ::) <-Yes thats what he said
-
Well I PMed Swenson with the Portsmouth Project...
I AM still waiting for a response... :/
-
i wouldint want venice in sse. it would be fun to explore the canals, but only small, slow ships can do that. will cartagena delight fit? or can there be a mohogany runabout? ;D
-
Well, if you don't want it, then why bother to post in here? :P

Even the Oceana will be able to enter Venice. There are not only the small canals but also some larger ones and a big Cruise Port.
So the small canals are only One small Part of the environment.
-
Joey's right, Look at the two attachments, I've took a shot of the cruise terminal, the second looks like a big river separating the two islands.
EDIT: Woops I forgot the photos! ::)
-
A simple repeatable bridge.
I extended it down so if the player vessel goes under, it won't see my mess.
Thanks for the nice bridge, dexter. The texture looks very good.
-
Thank joey! Is there anything I can do?
-
It would be very cool if you could do this lighthouse
(http://v4.cache8.c.bigcache.googleapis.com/static.panoramio.com/photos/original/3686952.jpg?ir=1&redirect_counter=1)
Dosn't have to be too detailed. Sorry for the bad pic  Probably you can find a better one, the lighthouse is called "faro di San Nicoletto" :)
Your bridge is nearly ready to be added to the main model. I had to optimize it a bit since it had about 1000 polys now it has 288 and the same level of detail as before.
-
Can you give me the coordinates, so I can find it in Google earth?
-
45°25'04.38'' N 12°25'37.84'' E ;)
-
Sorry to keep bugging you but, Joey, Do you know how tall is? I entered in a hundred feet but I feel I'm wrong...
-
I dont know how tall it is. Just try to keep the proportions from the pic. Then I can scale it to the right size later.
-
Are there any Marinas I can do? I enjoy modeling marinas...
-
I'm afraid I don't have any marinas left. I'm in the final stage now I think I can finish it somewhere in February.
-
Excellent news :D
-
What happened to this project? Looks great :) .
-
Good question...
Joey...
-
I'm very sorry for not posting any updates.
Since I have seen how long it takes to put an environment into the game, I think it's better to wait and see how the CCC envirnments look when they are finished.
So for now this project is paused and not stopped.
As soon as I see that VSTEP is interested in this or they even start a new CCC I will of course continue with it.
Another probelem is that I have a lot of work in school at the moment. That's also the reason why I'm not that much online anymore.
I hope you understand this.
Joey
-
no worries Joey
I think that is a good idea.
how does the model itself stand at the moment? Sadly no plans for another CCC it seems... :/
Good luck with the schoolwork
-
With the no-show of Travemunde into SSE, I fear Venice may now be a non starter... :-\
-
Well, that is the main reason I stopped this project.
It's sad to say but I won't continue Venice anymore. :(
:2thumbs: A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTED TO THIS PROJECT :2thumbs:
I hope you all have learned as much as I did during the whole process of building the environment.
If VSTEP ever wants to include Venice into SSE I would be pleased to finish the model.
Joey
PS: I'm already working on another really BIG (non SS) project, may start a topic on this some time soon.
