Aye. I'm also somewhat unsure- does 2ghz dual core (with ship sim running on only one) add up to about the equivalent of a 3ghz unicore, or would it be a little slow? i thought it may be oK, as the other applications which are runing would be on the second cpu, but still Im unsure. I also have a 256meg Nvid 6100 card, which im sure will handle it just fine providing I have anitalising and all other quality goodies turned of. But is 2.01ghz enough, even if I have everything turned right down? SS06 runs resonably well on it, with reflections and bloom effect n bow waves on,(about 23 frames per second) but thats just about where the fun ends!

Hiya :)

Dual-Core systems have distinct advantages and disadvantages.  I only have a single-core CPU, so I've been doing some research on this ;)

For more information on Dual-core CPU's, try the Wikipedia link here

Most new games do take advantage of the extra processing power of dual-core systems :)

On the graphics card issue, you should be fine with that one.....however, if it's 'on-board', you may (as you say) have to 'tone down' the settings a little ;)

Hope this information helps you out :)

Regards.

I'm considdering a new vid-card (7600GS?), but i'm not sure if it would do the trick... ???

Hiya :)

Just a little tip for you ;)

GS cards are usually 'cut-down' versions of the models in that series.  I have a GeForce 6600 and a buddy of mine has a GeForce 7300GS....My card runs better than his ;)

I would recommend getting an ordinary model (without GS - example: GeForce 7600), or get a GT/GTX model in whichever series you choose :)

Have some time afterall  :D

So here it comes(the information Luc mentioned in the e-mail):

Graphics card: ATI Radeon9600\X1050 Series
Type of connection (AGP/PCI-e): AGP, I think it ses ATI Radeon graphics Processor AGP
1534 MB RAM
Intel Pentium 4 cpu 3.00 ghz ( 2CPUs)

And Luc you ask for the type of motherboard but I couldn't find anything that looked like you stated in the mail. So I don't really know where to look for that. But I hoop this is enought for you!

Will this do to play 2008 or not, that's the question :P

DJM, thanks for the tip! I thought about the GS, because they are on sale now @ our local pc-shop, hehehe, and my mate got one, and it runs very, VERY nice, hehehe.
I know the GS is down-graded, but you can buy it with up to 1 gig memory, and the GT op to 512mb...
That's why i think of the GS. I'm not a succer for gadgets on vid-cards, they just have to give my a good framerate and nice views, hehehe. ;)

Hello Maik,
You will probably need to reduce some settings like most people who dont have a Panamax pc.
Good luck
Luc

What's a panamax pc ?? ???

And lucky me!! :D Just a few details turned lower is better than no playing at all  ;)

Yeah, that should do th trick!

Oh, and i was mistaking the memory-sizes on the 7600 GS and GT. The fastest GS for AGP has 512, the fastest GT for AGP has only 256. I geuss, i will be shopping for the GS in the near future. And lets hope, the demo comes out soon, so my mate can test-run it, with his 7600 GS 512 AGP. ;D If it doesn't work propperly, i will need a new system... :o ::)

Ive got a mid range pentium 4 laptop (spit. give me an amd athlon anyday!) with a memory module missing (awaiting replacement) and it is now below the MIN possible for the game. It warns me, but still plays.

Takes ages to load, but once running is ok. trust me to be akward!

Would a

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950

graphics card work?

I'm buying a laptop, however I've been told I can't upgrade/change the graphics card in it.

As far as I'm aware, all Intel cards are on-board, they don't really run games very well.

In a laptop you will only be able to change certain bits.

Memory modules, lan cards, wifi modules etc.

You won't be able to change the graphics card. Although some have a mini-pci slot for that reason, you won't get a mini pci card!

Take my advice, if you want a laptop make sure you go for the best you can afford. I always use HP as they combine performance and money.

In my opinion, an AMD Turion based processor is the best you will get.

Was in the store today looking at a HP AMD Turion processor with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 (UMA) graphics card, so That would work!  ;D

Well, as I'm sure you already know, OC is overclocked technology.  Usually I avoid overclocking, but in this case, these cards are designed to take it.

From what I've read on them and spoken to friends about, they are great cards ;D

What model is that then/ Must be in the 9XXX range?

If so, it has dedicated graphics memory and is WELL worth the upgrade price.

Yeah thats the one I have, except mine is PCI Express. You should def get one, it runs great! I used to have just a regular PCI card and ship sim would not run that great. Now it runs completly smooth.
