Boxed or Download
« on: August 09, 2010, 16:36:30 »

For the ShipSim Extremes Pre-Order, I do not know if there is any difference between the Boxed Version and the Download Version. For ShipSim 08, I got the download version and had issues with it. I don't want that to happen with ShipsSim Extremes.

Hi valleyforge,

The actual content is 100% the same.

The only difference is that the boxed version, is in a box.  ;D

But the software is exactly the same.

If you had the boxed version you would have the same problems. Looks like your pc couldn't handle it, can you post your dxdiag?

A dxdiag is a list with info about your computer. In case of troubles - like now - you could try to track the problem via that :)

Your dxdiag can be obtained by following these instructions:

Click Start > Run. type in dxdiag and press Enter.  You may see a popup asking about WHQL drivers, click Yes/Ok to proceed.

In the window that appears, click the button that says Save All Information, when the Save Dialog box appears, save the file to your desktop.  To upload the file here, click Additional Options underneath the reply area and choose Browse near Attach.  Browse to your desktop, click the file and click Open.

*  Windows Vista users need to press the Windows Key + R to access the Run prompt.

You can then post your reply with the file attached.

One thing you should do is upgrade to Service Pack 3, Microsoft no longer supports SP2..
-edit: I spoke too soon, I see you have Vista and not XP..

Ballast thinks the video card is the problem  ;). You need atleast a video card with 256 mb dedicated for SS08, yours is 125 mb. You won't be able to run SSE with that. You might want to invest in a new video card, the rest seems good.

Not to bring back this topic, but I'm a little confused on why my comp. won't handle SSE? You said the video card is not strong enough? I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE Graphics Card. That isn't enough?

Hi Valleyforge..

No afraid not, it simply isn't good enough. Sorry. As you have noticed, it's not even really good enough to run SS08 very well.

I think it's even an integrated chip, not a card as such. But that's irrelevant I think, cause it's quite a way below the required specs.

So a new chip/card is the only solution?

Where does one acquire such an object? Do stores carry them?

Yes they do. Well, computer stores at least.  :)

But, don't go out and just buy something.. get proper advice! it has to 'fit' your machine, and be on par compared to the rest of the hardware..

OK. As far as SSE goes, are there any qualifications that need to be met?

so fred what kind of system specs would you recommend for the game to run on good quality and performance?

Well, I don't think there's one good answer to that,.. depends on how good you want it to be..

I'm not the right person to answer that in detail..

But as far as my own pc goes, that can handle it very well.

I have an i7 core 920 processor, with 6 GB RAM, and a Radeon 5850 graphics card.
