I always thought it was for the DP unit. But with the windmill project they need the DP for sure but the yellow unit has been removed. Perhaps to make some more space.

Found it!

Those are the so called "flippers" which they attach to the side of the hull during heavy lift operations. With those pontoons attatched to it the waterline surface increase which gives the vessel a much better stability during heavy lift ops

Oh, and by the way, I will not see the QV this time because my dad can't go to Rotterdam at the moment.
And we are still trying to forget the last time we were in Rotterdam to see the QV on 24th of October

Here are some pics on that day, then you will understand:

Is this a ship spotters' topic or only a cruise ship & ferry spotters' topic?

Anyway, I'll add my 2 cents.

To answer Wave Music's question: Yes, all ships are allowed as long as the pictures are self taken by the poster  ;)

I just sarcastically hinted that this place is full of cruise ships & ferries while the title says "Ship Spotters" but not "cruise ship & ferry spotters" topic.  ;)
But thanks anyway.

BTW, Shipspotting site is down for maintenance.  Some changes are coming there.

Looks like on 9th May, 2010, our barque Kruzenshtern is coming back home after her 3rd round the world voyage.  If luck, maybe will take some shots.

Tomorrow the portuguese 4 mast schooner Santa Maria Manuela will arrive in Aveiro, after almost 1 year of repairs, trying to give her the original look.
