Which is more appealing to you in Ship Simulator, the technical simulator aspects (such as docking, tugging, crane operations, etc.) or the fast, speedy arcade style of playing (such as races, ramping, and such):
100% technical missions!  The fast ones are fun, but the real simulator experience is with the technical missions.  I would LOVE more rough-sea missions such as dangerous rescues and such.  The rough seas are brilliant fun and a real challenge!

Any additional comments or suggestions welcome here:
I've only just discovered Ship Simulator 2008 and I'm incredibly impressed by every aspect - especially the quality of graphics, variety of missions and the incredible GUI that allows so much freedom of choice in how to play.  Very well thought out, and thanks for writing it open-ended for players to add their own playable missions.  Fantastic work!

Any additional comments or suggestions welcome here:

In my opinion, the missions are good. But throw in the ability to have your own company (fishing, shipping goods, Passengers, ect) with the ability to gain and lose money based on how well you operate, as well as  buying more ships to get a fleet, Hire/Fire Ai Persons with different skill sets, the cheap ones are novices, the expensive ones are well traind and have lots of experiance and do less damage. Kind of how the Hard Truck series works, except on the water.

Boats that cary goods, make them where they can be completely unloaded, and loaded either by the player, Ai or a quick Unload all, Load All button.

Also have a EASY way to repaint any and all ships to your color, and company name, ship name. Perhaps from a drop down menu for the color, and text inputs for the names. That way you can do it in game, and for the graphic artists, the option to import custom livery's.

I know that will never happen right away, but there is my Idea. That would make this series lots better, But wait! There's  more!

Cary over the money making to online, as well as the company colors, name and ship names to the online mode, then that would rock.

But wait there's more!
Make it where you have realism levels, Easy, Hard, Realistic. Kind of how flight simulator works.
Make it where you run out of fuel if you don't plan properly, ect.

That is my suggestion.

but as it stands now, it is good.. it has potential.

Any additional comments or suggestions welcome here:

I think that missions could be made even more interesting by expanding the success/fail criteria.  Things such as a maximum fuel goal, throttle or thruster restrictions in certain areas etc.  Fuel burn might be difficult to model, but even something as simple as a rate of use based on RPM could make life very interesting... like when you charge onto a waypoint in the Vermaas going at full tilt, only to get the "Slow down to 2 knots" message :-).

Definitely the simulation aspect, that is what the game represents as far as I am concerned.

Any additional comments or suggestions welcome here:
The simulation has so much more potential. More realism would be nice as far as penalties and failures for not following rules of navigation and shiphandling. I also think that there should be a paper chart for all of the environments so that you can plan a voyage. For example you should have each environment laid out in a PDF file so some one can study or print out certain areas. It would be nice to have a pilot card for each vessel also with vessel particulars like draft, speed at engine orders, and performance characteristics.

Which is more appealing to you in Ship Simulator, the technical simulator aspects (such as docking, tugging, crane operations, etc.) or the fast, speedy arcade style of playing (such as races, ramping, and such):  technical simulator aspects

Any additional comments or suggestions welcome here:
- The sea depth and vessel draft seems it needs checking in places (e.g it is impossible to take 'The Pride of Rotterdam' into Portsmouth harbour (in the Solent) in game - yet it is possible in real life), same applies to parts of Southampton Water, etc with the large container vessels.
- It would be great to be able to use all the ships from both SS2006 and SS2008 in SS2010 or any future releases.
- It would also be great to see more ability to load/unload containers, cars, cargo, etc. The ability to moor 'other' vessels such as barges, cargo platforms etc, that are 'static objects' rather than player objects would also be good.

Please note that FSX has an outstanding scenery engine, which means it can handle shipping anywhere on the earth's surface. Already there are ships and boats being built for FSX.  Obviously they do not as yet meet the technical detail of Ship Sim, but it certainly is a strong area of convergence.

Which is more appealing to you in Ship Simulator, the technical simulator aspects (such as docking, tugging, crane operations, etc.) or the fast, speedy arcade style of playing (such as races, ramping, and such):

The technical, not the arcade.

Any additional comments or suggestions welcome here:

Look at Microsoft flight simulator and see whether you can get a readymade scenery engine which would then allow your ships to be located at any port.  And encourage amateurs to manufacture freeware of detailed scenery, docks and cranes, on-shore moving objects etc....and encourage payware add-ons independent of you own studio.

Vstep should open up the possibilities for the community to create ports, fairways, ships and other addons. I think that it's a mistake to have total control over the addons.

I prefer mooring/docking/tuggage and cargo works, less cruising business and I have no interset in yachting and/or speed boats/ramping.

It would be great, if in 2010 static object can be included as having had in SS2006, i.e. cars/buildings/cranes (without function just static9

Age:13

Sex:male

Top 3 Other Games You Current Play:

2.
3.

Other Simulators You Enjoy (If not in the 3 above):
1. Sim City
2.
3.

Closest major port:
Port Newark
Desired port locations (limit to 3 choices):
1.Port Newark/ expand New York Port the morris canal the other side such as kill van kull and Newark Bay
2.
3.

Desired vessels/vessel types to be seen in upcoming Ship Simulator versions (limit to 3 choices):
1. Larger Ferry than vstep7 but smaller than red jet 4 such as a New York Waterway ferry
2. Dinner Cruise Boat
3. Barges would be neat I dont know if they are in New Horizons or not?

Also I would like to see an effect on boats/ships in the game when you pass directely behing a moving vessel's wake. In real life if you go behind a boat you get tosdsed around by the wake(waves) from the boat!

Where did I purchase?
Amazon.com

I would rate it a 3 because there are several glitches also the system requirements I feel are pretty high so It takes me like 2hrs to do a mission and my computer is not garbage!

I like tugging mooring docking etc I dont like ramps. Like yachts though.
