Greetings,
This vessel discharge his cargo in Rotterdam(maasvlakte),he use tugs,so in that way it's a challenge to get this vessel to his mooringplace.
When we can go out at sea, with this vessel. You would be able to do an entired trip.

Yes, I am sure she will be quite a challenge when not out to see
Greetings,
This is the whole idea, because there's not realy a "beginner"or"advanced"player. It's by chozing a vessel ,that you're able to make it difficult for yourself.
You can imagine,if you sail the small speedboat, that this is more easyer to moor, than this vessel"Berge Stahl"to get it docked in a proper way.
That why i wanted this huge vessel in the game.

Marc

True, but unless we get draught control in the game she cannot go many places in it . . .  Because if her draught is too great, she hits the bottom of harbors pretty early on . . . . I think we need ballast control.

But this is where you know your job.
Believe me a veesl like this empty, needs ballast anyway.

True - she will need it regardless, but she cannot always be fully laiden. I think we need to see if we can find a way to control ballast or alter draft in the Ship Editor . . .

Thoughts?

Hi all,

First of all, i'm new here.  ;D I sail on an inland-ship for a living, so i know a few things here and there. ;)

Offcourse it would be an idea to have Ballast-Controll on the Berge Stahl. However, what about adding scenery to the harbour of Rotterdam, so you will have the complete harbour, including the aproach?
So you can start your mission at Maasmond Aproach (i think it is), and lead the ship to it's destination?

Most importantly, we would need a nice set of tug-boats to get this massive baby in to place!

What a challenge, i'm really looking forward to it!

Oh well, i'm looking forward to everything in SS08!! ;D

The textures looks very good! 8) A couple of questions:

What’s the name/title of the software you use to make the model and assign the textures?
What kind of texture assignment method are you using (UVW Map, Unwrap UVW)?

The textures looks incredible detailed. Are you using huge texture files with high resolution or is it just the mapping method that makes you able to get it so detailed?
I’m looking forward to see the add-ons made inside the game one day as renderings is always fancy but doesn’t necessary have to display how the ship will actually look inside the game. ;)

GREETINGS SAILORS !!!!  ;D

I AM BACK WITH NEW SET RENDERS !!!!!

THANKS  Mr. Marcs, ShipSIm, Captain Kool, JHB and J3nsen

But first I wish to answer for some question

@ JHB

What’s the name/title of the software you use to make the model and assign the textures?

Like I said before on my old post, I am using a few software for make my 3D models. For design HULL I use some of this software ( DELFT SHIP, MAX SURF or MULTI SURF ), but sometimes this cradle replace RHINO CEROS (as regards RHINO MARINE ). In some situation in dependence for type of job, I am use my the best of the best ( favorites) software 3D STUDIO MAX ( last edition 9.0 64 BITS Thanks God). This is amazing software for all. ( rendering, animating, modeling and making, all...)  Textures I am make on photoshop, or small powerfull software GENETICA, where I mixing a few textures and build NEW textures. Like I said final render or animation, I make on 3D STUDIO MAX, and final product ( ANIMATION ) I exporting to postproduction software like Premier or Combustion, Adobe after effect. This is a some my favorites tools who I am using to create all my boats.  I am using 3D studio MAX ~ 10 years.  :D

What kind of texture assignment method are you using (UVW Map, Unwrap UVW)?

I am using bouth style, UVW Mapping, and UVW, but this depend on occurence job ( low poly modeling, high poly modeling, and bla bla bla..)

I am consist that is very important using real textures, ecause real textures is real models.

I am hope that I am help with my reply.  ;D

AND THIS IS SOME NEW IN MY DIGITALSHIPYARDS, A FEW NEW RENDERS MEGASTRUCTURES ( engine rooms,    ). Tomorow I am back with NEW SET!!!

Thanks and best regards !!!!! ;D

I agree. I think the texturing may not make her look new, but I think it certainly adds character, to be honest. I do not like seeing old, rusty ships but for some reason it makes his model seem all the more real. No?

Yeah, it feels like it has more substance than a clean, simply textured vessel.

1. Ports Of Call 3D 2

2. Maybe Microsoft flight simulator X or 2003,

3. Trainz or other simulation game.

5. and original formats ( max, 3DS, obj ) for 3D design, animation, or 3D Virtual developming in low, midi and high poly count version.

in any case this boat most navigate and sailing somewhere with recount simulators. I hope so  ;D

See soon ;)

Hello together,

I think the signs of the tug pushing points are to deep

On the VLCC I was sailing, these marks were above the LOI (the sign which shows the maximum draft in winter, summer, salt water, fresh water etc.) so that the tugs could see them easily independence from the draft. They have to be in the freeboard space above the waterline.

It's just a suggestion but I can send you a picture

If we have the ones above that waterline,it's O.K.

I think you forget where the waterline is when the ship is in ballast... As for ULCC I believe most of these extremely large bulkcarriers travel in ballast when the cargo is unloaded. I think the tugmarks are allright.

Well groennegaard, it doesn't depense on if the ship is in ballast or not, the tug spots (thanks for the missing vocabulary ;-) ) must be above the waterline. The tug must be able to push at the right place wether the ship carries cargo or not. So as you can see on the pictures of LucAtC there are two spots - one for the ballast and one for the loaded condition. If the operator only wants to put one of these signs then they have to paint it in the freeboard space (between LOI and deck).

In conclusion to this excellent 3D-Model of the MV "Berge Stahl" you have to push the tug spot up or attach another one to achieve an original copy.

I do not quite follow your argumentation. Perhaps I just do not get your message...  ;) But I think it is right to have two tug marks above each other of which one mark is submerged when the ship is loaded. The spots mark a reinforced area of the hull constructed to withstand the forces of a tug. Why do they have to be placed within the freeboard? If the ship is in ballast the marks would be high over the waterline (which in this case is way below the max draft marks) and the tug marks would not be useful. This is why there is another set of tugmarks below the marks designed for the fully loaded ship and this is exactly what LucAtC's photo shows.

Greetings,
Afther a second time of thinking,i think we dont need that second mark.I hope Vstep is willing to convert this ship in the game,as a heavy loaded vessel,so untill the waterline.
This would be making this ship hard to manouvre in harbour area's,but i think they lies the challenge of this vessel.

Hmm... That would be the same to say that everything below waterline is unimportant... Why should we then have animated propellers, rudders etc.?

I think the details should be there in case of groundings, collisions, high seas and every other situation that could bring parts of the submerged hull (and it's details) out of the water...

Hello groennegaard,

well I don't want to stuck to long on this, but I will show you a picture of a vessel like the one I was sailing on:

As you can see next to the name - on the right side of this - there is a arrow showing down with the letters "TUG". These tugspots show you were the AREA is, so in this case just down the line of the arrow. You are right when you say that the part of the hull is reinforced at this point but it is also where the tugs can efficiently push to receive the best movement solution.

In conclusion we both are right, that these points show the cpt. of the tug where to push, but he don't have to push exactly at this point, it's a vertical line and the ship is not in only in two conditions - loaded and in ballast. Imagine the vessel had just lightered and 50 % left when it reaches the next terminal, than the tug pilot has to push between the two point on the virtuel line.

Obviously, nevermind .. I hope I could answer your 'question' groennegaard ;-)
Otherwise send me a msg.
________________________________________

I agree with you groennegaard, I'm also interested in animated propellers etc.
Furthermore I guess it is very hard and intensive in programming time but the two different conditions of a vessel own completly seperate manouvering habits. But in the first step I agree only to use the fully loaded condition.

Greetings,
Maybe you did not see what i have written about the tugspots below the waterline.
The Berge Stahl, should be in the game as a fully loaded vessel,so the other tugspots will be underwater.
This loaded vessel, makes it not so easy to handle, because any thing you want to do has to be very slowly, and it will takes some time to react.
This where the grade of difficulty will be,specialy when you want to dock her,you will need tugs on this vessel. An exelent vessel for the onlinegame, when that comes in.

Marc

Hello marcstrat,

of course I saw your post, but I finished my discussion with groennegaard.
Nevermind, I know what you mean, when you say that the lower tug spot is not further necessary in fully loaded condition.
Furthermore I can only agree with you about the different manouvering habits. I made my steering certificate on a tanker due to this it's pretty impressive to see and feel the different reaction times.

Hello,

in order to the STCW 95 I had to make my certificate on the first practical semester.

My horror story: I was steering the tanker to a SMB (Single Mooring Bouy) in the bay of Nigeria while we were having a current of 3-5 kt. and more. In the first view this looks simple but when you are 'steering' between 0-5 kt. SOG (Speed over ground) than you have more or less no steering ability. Well further stories are of course entries of harbour, rivers (Delaware River) or during heavy weather.
I practised nearly every night shift with the mates - was great fun.

Hello Goax75,

I'm not sure if you already gave a comment to the survival crafts. Are you still rendering or optimizing these boats? Although .. nice work ..

As well as the others I'm also very interested in the wheel house because I guess that it'll be vast better than the "empty" (sorry to the developer but this refers to the truth) bridges of the SS'08 vessels.

Go on like this .. very good

Absolutely Fantastic Work! Great Choice of Vessel!

Quote
Greetings,
Maybe you did not see what i have written about the tugspots below the waterline.
Regards
Marc

Marc, just curious about a comment you made earlier in this topic that it will be modeled as fully laden in the simulator. I'm sure you realize that fully laden she can only go alongside in a few places worldwide. So currently in Ship Simulator that's only one berth available for her in Rotterdam. Or is the vessel just going to look fully laden but will not actually have her full draft modeled?

I guess i'm also making an assumption here that there is some level of "realism" in SS#08 Bathymetry data.  :D

Cheers and keep up the great work!

Larse

Greetings Larse,
Yes,i asked this because than it's more difficult to dock her,and there is already one harbour in the game where it can come, fully loaded.(Port of Rotterdam)
So if you come from the Northsea, you can try to dock her than in this port?(just an idea)
Thanks for the comment on this matter,i hope you are pleased with my idea of this vessel.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for your feedback. No worries, I'm totally pleased with what you guys are doing with this project! It's really fantastic work! :D

I understand from a discussion I've had with a Rotterdam Pilot that when she goes along side at EECV in Europort fully  laden they are extremely restricted along the entire route. Due to the high cost of keeping the channel dredged to such depth they don't have large margins and have to really watch the exact position very closely. The port of Rotterdam has it's own hydrographic service which constantly monitors the deepwater access channels and updates the pilots with extremely accurate bathymetry data (far better than what we have on our charts). So, while she can enter the Port of Rotterdam at 22.5m she is restricted to a very limited route in the port, requiring great care and careful planning.

My only concern was that when we get to have fun with this gorgeous model, we aren't bouncing her all the way in. ;D But I don't know how the bathymetry data in the game compares to the actual port in reality. Maybe it's not even an issue. But i'm sure if it is you will find a clever way to make it work. ;)

So, again...great choice of vessel! Fantastic work! and really look forward to the nice challenge this will add to the game.

Succes!

Larse

Will they be here in the download section? Or on the VSTEP Homepage?

Greetings all active members,
If this project, has become to an end,we can ask to Vstep,to putt it in a sepatere topic, and become as closed.
This means we can stil see it,but no longer commment it.
So this way,we give more space to(at that time)more active projects.
Aldo,we have to give thanks to the person who build this model(any model).
each one of us!!
Thanks Dejan(Goax 75)

Greetings,
We are trying to get permission to have it in the game, before that it's a "no go".We started this project about 2 years ago.Dejan did realy a great job,now it's just waithing for the company's permission.
Another idea to get things faster for this is,i have sometimes to deliver goods on that vessel,i make a copy of the model on a cd-rom,and talk to the captain, which he can deliver to B&W,Norway, the homebas of this company.
Dont expect answers very soon, however it's better than doing nothing, for this amazing project.

I can't wait to find out if this ship is in SS2008  :-\

I'll still buy SS2009 though  :)

Now some pictures of what she looks like now, Goax is modeling the older pre-repaint Berge Stahl.

(http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/3184/1000206xt8.jpg) (http://imageshack.us)

Notice the superstructure is now painted white instead of Green.

Here you can see she now has her IMO number painted on her stern under "Stavanger"

I agree with you, but would it be a nice idea for V step to added this ship to the game twice ?  One that is fully loaded and another one that is empty ? I found 2 link that shows the Berge Stahl in the Botlek in Rotterdam:

Hello Coen,
Your suggestion is now examined a little more than closely, and has partly been solved. Did you subscribe to Terry's Creator's Forum? You would have the good surprise of some kind of answer to your wish being tested.
It cannot be yet published, as there are still difficulties, that Terry tries to solve.

Hello Luc,

i saw you mentioning the creators forum and i was wondering if you have a link for their website, because i have been meaning to check out some things but i forgot the link :-[.

Hello,

I don't have the link to Terry's website, so if somebody can give it to me it would be great.

What I was forgot to mention was that would it be a great idea to do the same with the Latitude ?
I think it's not done in a few seconds because the movements are a lot differend between those two vessels,
but maybe some day we'll see the results.

Rgr,

Coen

Hello,
Please have a look at Terry's signature under each of his posts.
There are also conditions attached to the participation to a private forum, of course, and like for any forum, access and subjects are limited.
And of course, Berge Stahl is a member's project, not (yet?) a model in ShipSim.
Good luck,
Luc

Hoy everyone,
Yes,for the moment it still is a members project, however we are trying hard to get any permission for this project.Afther we have that,we can ask Vstep to get it in the game to.

Thud

OW!

Note to self: Don't trywalking with knees crossed...

PS Joining Creators Forum is now much easier and quicker.

Also, I am just re-upholstering the Mission Creators lounge and cafe areas, to make it much easier to discuss problems and get hints and tips. Should be ready this evening, I think.

For the rest,i'll do the best i can to get into contact with the office.

Title: Re: "Berge stahl"project.Comments and Updates

Hoy,
Well, i have not much contact anymore with Dejan.Sometimes i see him on facebook, but thats it.
Nothing more i can say, only that i wished that for ones, one project could be fixed and made by us.(NVDG-group).
In the beginning many projects have been set-up,however non has ever made it to a complete and finished ship.
Caroline Chouest, that fastferrie,Berge Stahl, the russian icebreaker, the speedboat.........and maybe some more vessels i dont know for now.
Maybe if someone feels to restart,or bring them back to live(atleast one of them)would be fine.Otherways we call the projects death.
Regards
Marc
