Navigational Aids
« on: August 08, 2008, 06:32:40 »

I, Llamalord, am developing a group of static objects for use in the Mission Editor and in Environment Creation.  I feel we have been lacking the real high points of marine navigation.

I will be modeling and texturing the following navigational aids to V-STEP standards.

  • No Wake Zone
  • Danger
  • Restricted
  • Information
  • South-West
  • North-East
  • Anchorage
  • Shallows
  • Mid-Channel
  • Fishing Buoy
  • Nun
  • Can
  • Nun-Day Marker
  • Can-Day Marker
  • Pole Light
  • Static Light Ship

I'll post renderings of my Navigational Aids as I model them, Here are the first ones

If you can think of any other Navigational Aids I haven't mentioned please do tell me about them and I might model them.

What is the format you need to convert the model, in order to get it in?

There is a real lack of navigational marks in the scenary and also in the map. I've been sailing for five years and you really cannot go for even one nautical mail in the finnish coust with out some kind of mark. Also there are 3 (what I remember) different sizes. 2m tall stick with about 10cm diameter, the metal ones that we have in the game, and then those 10m tall with radar freclection stuff.

Some one mentioned in some topic (maybe in the Flight Sim vs Ship Sim), that SS is a navigation simulator  ;D

It may be a little big, but how about a lightship?

All Right, I'm done with all the small white harbor buoys.

And yes I will do a light ship as long as you don't mind it being really simple (Like under 5,000 polygons and not so detailed textures.) V-STEP insists and so does your Frame rate. ;)

Yes, anything is welcome into the sim for me. All it needs is a Hull and a lighthouse plonked on top, no need for a bridge!

Hello llamalord,
Nice job, indeed  :)
There are also some other buoys of the IALA that could be interesting too, for the A and B regions?
Models can be found relatively easily, like here (http://www.sailingissues.com/navcourse9.html) for instance.
Regards,
Luc
