Having just got my new boat launched yesterday Sunseeker Monteray), and sea-trialled it, I will be going out and about in the Solent during next week. I'll take some photos of all the buoys and markers I can find and post them here if that's of any use.

In the Solent, it is plagued with small brightly coloured balls and so on that mark lobster pots and crab traps. These tend to be placed in any waters of about 15 metres or less depth. I'll take some snaps of those as well.

Hello llamalord,
All your markings will be nice to be used in SF and NY environments (Region "B" Americas and around Japan), but just one of them could be used in the other harbour environments, ie the "Deadliest Catch" Fishing Buoy. Indeed, like Ballast suggested, cardinal buoys and a different set of lateral buoys are needed in the IALA "A" Region.
This site shows clearly the (small but important) differences between both sets of buoyage.
When looking for these illustrations, I met a surprising - excellent - navigation bible:

do you think you can make a crab trap bouy not like the one in Deadliest Catch maybe like a bullet nose type one.  They use those to show if they are anchored

I've talked to a few influential people on the forum but not V-STEP directly.  I'd rather wait until I have all the right file formats to show them first because I'm still having some conversion problems.  I've been trying to install Blender on one of my linux computers but it just gives me static on the radio. :-\

The Light Ship is complete! -Remember it has to be low poly and small texture in order not to upset frame rate.

I have alot of renders because I figured you guys would want more than the usual 1 per buoy. ;)

All thats left is the ploe light and any more suggestions that you can come up with between now and then.

Let me know what you think,

If you want it in ship sim you also need a low res version for when you are at a distance.

Amazing!!! That lightship looks great! It would be good for Padstow too, because what appears as an island on the map, is actually rocks underwater.

llamalord, one thing i would find really useful, would be a beer-cooler, any chance of modelling that. i can't navigate without one.
