maybe one of those boats that fills up with water and then lowers the whole boat and then the deck is under water so a bunch of boats float over the deck, then the boat dumps all the water and lets the boats over it's deck rest on it's deck that now is out of the water ;D that i think would be aswome :o

These are called Heavy Lift vessels!  ;)

I've heard people call an ordinary pontoon boat a "Barge" so I just want to make sure that you mean a Barge. :-\

Hi Juriss,
They are actually called “semi-submersible lift” to distinguish them from heavy-lift vessels like the Jumbo Javelin, which is a much larger edition of an “Agile Solution” type.
VSTEP has been considering a Fairmount semi-sub, Fjell, but that requires solving the general variable-draft problem. It may need to wait for SS 2009.

FOYEN, VSTEP is doing the Jumbo Javelin mentioned above. I can’t say that it will be released anytime soon. As for a floating crane, a sheerlegs, like SMIT's Asian Hercules II, would be nice.

We need the R/V Akademik Mstislav Keldysh! It's THE research vessel for visiting the wreck of the Titanic! ;D

It was the research vessel that James Cameron's film "Titanic" took place on, and the research vessel that carries the submersibles MIR 1 and MIR 2! It's also the vessel that lead to the 2006 theory of Titanic's sinking, as it was the MIR submersibles that found the 2 intact pieces of Titanic's hull!

It would be a funny paradox to have both the Keldysh and the Titanic together ;D

I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be in Ship Simulator!

I like the idea of looking off its stern into the Atlantic, perhaps off at the wreck of Titanic?

Because I watch alot of Science Fiction, like "Doctor Who", :) I'm into the way things in reality fit if you mess them up...

If the Titanic is in the game and still floating, Then Ship Simulator is in a different universe where it never sunk. Then there was no need to even build a R/V. :o  I know it's just a game so messing with the time space continuim in Ship Simulator won't take Terry out of existance or make me the vice president of Llamas and not the lord. ;)

Haha you're right, it probably is, because this picture was taken in the Rotterdam Harbour, where the ss Rotterdam recently came home to stay.

uhmm, the Research Ship for the wreck of the Titanic was the RS Knorr
But the MIR 1 and MIR 2 submersibles are considered some of the, if not, the best subs for Titanic visits nowadays!

The R/V Knorr may have found it, but its actual mission was to find 2 nuclear US Cold War submarines that sank and make sure America's enemies didn't get their hands on the nuclear sections of the wreck. Finding the Titanic was not the main purpose, but it made the perfect cover-up! ;D

Well that is not entirely true.

Dr. Ballard's main goal was to find the Titanic, but he needed a lot of funds, and the US Navy agreed to fund it, when he requested funding from them, but with the condition that Ballard first would go out and locate the sunken U.S. Navy submarines Thresher and Scorpion for them.

Once he found and photographed them, Ballard went on to the 'main quest', so to speak.

So the actual mission for Robert Ballard and Jean-Louis Michel and their team was finding the Titanic. Locating these subs was a priority for the Navy, not for Ballard, but he could not have done it without the Navy's backing and funding. You make it sound like he accidentally came across it whilst on another mission, this is not the case, nor is there a cover up, really.

I'm not keen on people still going down there for tourist visits and taking bits off of the wreck and so on, to be honest though.

Regards,
Fred

But MIR 1 and MIR 2 are the best! Those things can take the pressure of up to 4½ miles down!

Or maybe the Knorr SHOULD be in Ship Sim.... Want to have a poll? ;D
