Hey Nathan.

No offence taken, my friend. I was just explaining why I don't do the ramming. It's a personal view only.

Your contributions (and Agent|Austins) are greatly welcomed by me and I find them generally interesting and intelligent.

No need to have erased your kind offer to let me sink you in exchange for marmite sandwiches!  ;D

Well aren't we all the best of friends here!  ;D

Seriously, there's no need for harsh comments, I think.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. There probably will not be an extra foghorn button, nor an additional horn for each ship. If you look at LucAtC's input, you might see why. I think Frank meant that a horn pack would make a nice addition, just like the allready released pack did.

Plus, it's not just a matter of "just making a new keystroke". You have to link it to the horns, make it play the correct sound sample, etc.. I wont pretend I know about that programming, but it would take some time and effort to make it happen.

On the other hand of course, user created content like that is very welcome, then people can choose which horns they want to use for their ships, can customise their game, etc.. So that's a good thing for sure.
But it would probably be a replacement pack, not an additional horn. But that should not stop you from creating it, obviously.

Austin, please mind the language if you will.. if you have to censor yourself with asterisks, it was probably not such a good thing to write in the first place. censored swearing is still a form of swearing, you could easily write a more friendly word there instead.  ;)

Cheers guys,

Regards,
Fred

Hmmmmm, i was wondering, as Frank said earlier, is it worth me developing other things that ships have, like the sound of the bell on the Igor k?

i tweaked the sound what ''we-don't-know-were-to-add-it-to''

i made a bass in it and changed the tone height, this could be a nice sound for the ocean star or the latitude

Nice horn indeed, but a bit on the high pitch side for a vessel as big as the Ocean Star, I think.

One little note; for people to use it, it has to be a .wav file, so to save users the work of converting it, it might be nicer to offer it here allready as a .wav so they can rename it, and stick it in their game.

Nicely done!

i can modify it a bit, and try making it longer.

the reason why i upload mp3 formats is because it's smaller, ofcourse if you guys want i can post wav. files here  ;)

Jack.

Hiya Jack, a bit late with the reply, but I missed that post of yours initially.... Yes it's worth it indeed, and actually, if you read Frank's comment again, it would actually only be worth doing the sound systems things a ship might have, if you aim for these things to be released as an official patch, like the horn pack Terry and I did. Because the normal horns are allready present.

Of course you can always make a normal horn pack too, to replace the current ones, but then you'd have to just release it on the forum, as Frank mentioned they did not really want to replace the ones we have now.

Untill now, I've not seen anything to do with foghorns or secondary sound systems as such, but merely seen and heard about the 'normal' horns.

Which is of course cool aswell, the more stuff users have to play around with, the better, but if you guys want to make a patch that VSTEP will release officially, you'll have to focus on secondary systems rather than normal horns.

Here's a bit of what Frank said to recap;

....Like Luc rightly mentioned, most ships have only one horn and so it is not necessary to develop a new horn.
We don't want to replace the current horns and the new user created horn sounds pack by TerryRussell, as they are really very nice.

It would be very nice and an excellent addition however to develop the fog systems aboard these ships (bells, whistles, etc.) when they have one besides a standard horn, and that would add to the realism very nicely. And yes, in that case we would add an 'F' key to be used for that.

Once again, we've already got horns, but if a ship has a secondary fog alarm like a bell, whistle, or even a second dedicated fog horn besides the standard horn, it would make a nice addition to the game. It is however imperative, that before developing you make sure the fog systems you develop for a ship are in fact the real systems used. As long as it is the case, we'll be more than happy to make this fog patch available for the community and add even more realism to the Shipsim.

So yeah, the secondary systems would be very nice to have indeed. It would make a great addition!!  :)

Fred

This "re-done" Furiehorn is really nice. I like ship horns that are very deep pitched and "boomy" like the classic trans-atlantic liners. Now if somone could replicate QE2's whistles that would really be nice.

Why would anyone do that as QE2 is not in SS08??

It may just be wishful thinking but I've already made a horn for my new ship "The Iron Flounder"-in the active projects section.
