You can't have horns and fog horns in the game, installing these would overwrite the old horns  :-\

Witch they WON'T because they have better things to do then fiddle with worthless ****. Maybe the development of shipyard ships and SS09/10 would be a better decision. Instead of spending worthless hours on something no one will ever use.

Sorry to sink your boat but it is a dumb idea. I hate to say it but, grow up, you act like your 5.

Oh nice, just dash the ideas of 3 people..Have some manners.........

ok, it's ok to voice your opinion, but something constructive instead of plain rude would help..how about

"I don't think they would do that in SS2008 but maybe if you keep developing until SS2009 it would be nice for the shipyard"

Grow up, at least hes trying to make something for our entertainment  ;)

Well aren't we all the best of friends here!  ;D

Seriously, there's no need for harsh comments, I think.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. There probably will not be an extra foghorn button, nor an additional horn for each ship. If you look at LucAtC's input, you might see why. I think Frank meant that a horn pack would make a nice addition, just like the allready released pack did.

Plus, it's not just a matter of "just making a new keystroke". You have to link it to the horns, make it play the correct sound sample, etc.. I wont pretend I know about that programming, but it would take some time and effort to make it happen.

On the other hand of course, user created content like that is very welcome, then people can choose which horns they want to use for their ships, can customise their game, etc.. So that's a good thing for sure.
But it would probably be a replacement pack, not an additional horn. But that should not stop you from creating it, obviously.

Austin, please mind the language if you will.. if you have to censor yourself with asterisks, it was probably not such a good thing to write in the first place. censored swearing is still a form of swearing, you could easily write a more friendly word there instead.  ;)

Cheers guys,

Regards,
Fred

Hi chaps.

Good luck with the foghorns.

A few things that you need to bear in mind that may make things go easier:

(1)
When you make the sounds, try testing them on systems with small speakers and por-quality sound systems as well as with ultra hi-fi systems. With horns, a lot of the energy is in the low frequencies So the horn will sound quiet on a poor-quality system. If you try to increase the volume, it will merely distort.

There is no perfect balance. Some sounds on some systems won't be as good as you'd like.

(2)
Bear in mind the Maritime regulations bearing frequency as an indication of vessel size. Bigger vessels have deeper sounds.

(3)
Very importantly, remember that you can't simply trawl (pun!) the internet and record other people's sounds. The person who recrded them (or possiby the site where you obtained them) owns the copyright. If your sounds are not your own work, Vstep won't be able to use them, or else they could be in breach of ciopyright.

(4)
When you're perfectly happy with them, let someone else play with them and then be ready to change it all again!

*****

Hope this is of some use.

Fellas, there is no need to be rude. We're all adult people with a passion for the same game, so keep it civilized.

Let me clarify the situation, so you guys can go ahead and develop something nice!

We at VSTEP very much approve the idea of user generated content. The most important rule for user generated content is that the content should be in sync with the realism of Ship Simulator 2008. As you are undoubtedly well aware, before you start developing, you should do research about ships and their fog signalisations. Like Luc rightly mentioned, most ships have only one horn and so it is not necessary to develop a new horn.
We don't want to replace the current horns and the new user created horn sounds pack by TerryRussell, as they are really very nice.

It would be very nice and an excellent addition however to develop the fog systems aboard these ships (bells, whistles, etc.) when they have one besides a standard horn, and that would add to the realism very nicely. And yes, in that case we would add an 'F' key to be used for that.

Once again, we've already got horns, but if a ship has a secondary fog alarm like a bell, whistle, or even a second dedicated fog horn besides the standard horn, it would make a nice addition to the game. It is however imperative, that before developing you make sure the fog systems you develop for a ship are in fact the real systems used. As long as it is the case, we'll be more than happy to make this fog patch available for the community and add even more realism to the Shipsim.

I hope this clears up the matter.

Kind regards,
Frank

C'mon chaps! Lighten up. Whether anyone likes these sounds or the idea of the sounds, or not, no-one will die from it. No-one will become ill or get injured. In fact, if they're good, people will enjoy them.

Anything that adds to the sum of human happiness is welcome!  ;D

Look out. Outbreak of smilies:  :)  :D  ;D  ;D  :D  :)  ;D  ;D

Hi Nathan.

As this is about bells and whistles and smilies, can you smile and whistle at the same time?  ;D  ;D

Ah, well it wasn't a post that consisted entirely of smilies, so it would be wrong to report it. I'd hate to end up telling myself off. I'd have to pig out on marmite sandwiches... (There! Mentioned it in this thread!)

That's not a great inducement, to be honest.

To me, ramming is an absolute betrayal of every seafarer that risks their life on the waters and of every seafarer that has lost their life while working on the seas.
