This company, Thomas Andrews Trans-Atlantic Lines, has a plan that I'm sure many of us would like to see completed:
In honor of the roughly 1,500 people who lost their lives on the RMS Titanic, TAT-AL hopes to build an almost exact replica of the great liner, which "will serve as a living Monument and Memorial to those who died." In order to make this ship as close to the real thing as possible, but still have today's technology, they will hide and disguise today's things into it, so as to make it look as similar to the real ship as possible. Examples from the site include:
Hiding the sonar equipment in the farthest foreward section of the bow
Hiding the radar equipment in the crows nest
Disguising the radio to look like the Marconni telegraph system
The maiden voyage is set for April 10, 2012, 100 years after the Titanic left Southampton
On April 15, 2012 at 2:00 AM, there will be a memorial service as the ship passes over where the Titanic sank.
After her maiden voyage, she will continue to run trans-Atlantic runs between Southampton and New York.
Every detail of the ship will be recreated. Imagine walking up the Grand Staircase! Exercise in the gym or swim in the pool!
The ship will have around 900 crew members, same as the real thing! Due to the lifeboat capacity, however, the ship will only have 900 passengers, too.
The ship will be a coal powered steamship, just like the original!
The estimated ticket prices are cheap! $1,000 for 3rd class, $2,000 for 2nd class, and $4,000 for 1st class.
The ship's name will be "Titanic" as the owner veiws naming it anything else would be disrespectful towards those who lost their lives.
From what I understand, though, even though they already have the launch day set and everything, they're a bit short on cash. Dont these sorts of companies get mony based on how many people visit their site? If that's the case, we can help these guys out!
This idea is amazing! I hope thet get the money needed and that H&W help them out! Best of luck, guys!
