Hi Chris.

So far as I know, if you don't have a PCI Express bus in your PC (and the correct type, either 16 or 32), then you can't use a card designed for PCI Express.

I'm not aware of any adaptors.

Sorry.

Give me Nvidia 8800GTX any day.

I've tried a lot of ATI cards over the years and although they've been OK, Nvidia seem to outperform them. They also have better updates for latest games and so on. Had less problems with Nvidia.

Wish you had told me that 3 years ago lol. I have a ATI 1600X Pro. Although it's ok, it's not blisteringly fast. However it is an AGP card :(

Guys, I just recently bought a new PC (thus I have ship sim!). Anyway, I don't know a lot about the hard-ware side of things etc, so I was wondering could you give me some advice. I'm looking for a card that will let me run ship sim on FULL graphic settings (everything up). Here's my PC stats first of all:

Dell Inspiron 530
Windows XP Pro
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33Ghz 2.33Gz
3.00 GB of RAM

...and here's the Graphics card I've been looking at:
Link to Play.com page

Will this card run Shipsim 2008 on FULL settings? If possible guys, please keep your answers to a simple yes, or 'no' with a recommendation please (as I have NO idea about why it's good/no good!). For recommendations, I'm willing to spend up to £150. Reason being is that I don't play games on my PC, I play them on my Xbox360. I'm only doing this for ship sim, so I feel that makes sense. :)

What does that involve Chris? Could you possibly link me to one that's the equivelant power-wise, but doesn't require an adapter?

EDIT: See, now I'm confused because another friend I know through another game, told me I should be fine because 'anything with a Core2.0 (referring to my CPU I think), should have the slot'. PCIe or something like that. Very confusing lol

Hi Chris.

As I said to you about a week ago, so far as I know, there is no such thing as a PCI => PCI-Express adaptor.

So does your post mean you've found one? Please give me a link for it, because that would be incredibly useful.

Or did you forget our conversation?  ;)

Hi Chris.

It's not easy to tell the difference between some of the bus types just by looking. PCI 16 & 32 look similar. They also look a bit like some of the older busses.

The only way is to find out from the Motherboard manufacturer. You can work that out from teh start-up screen when you start the PC. Make a note of the BIOS type and then go from there.

Google the bios type and you can generally find out the Motherboard. There is software around which will give details. Sandrasoft is one that I've used in the past. Again, Google it and you find what you need.

Also the time has come to get a New Processor in my mother board.

I want to go quad core but,- I also don't want to go bankrupt. 8)

Any suggestions from the clan. ;)

Depends on how much you want to spend. You can pick a Quadcore up for about £70 I think (low spec one) but I would spend a bit more getting a decent one. I would get the Q6600 as I think it can overclock past 3Ghz with proper cooling..

quad core is 2 cpu's for the RAM and 2 cpu's for the rest (so i have been told i may be wrong)
dual core is 2 cpu's doing everything.

i have duo core...meaning 1 cpu for RAM and 1 cpu for the rest (again so iv been told)

but as iv already mentioned i have 2 intel zeon 3.8gig's
