RNLI LIFEBOAT (after everyones request!)
« on: December 18, 2007, 22:05:05 »

FROM THE RECENTLY POSTED COMMENTS I CAN SEE THAT MY WORK IS NOT ACCEPTED. I QUIT NVDG AND I SHALL NOT POST ANYMORE MODELS HERE AGAIN. GOOD RADIENCE. IF YOU HATE MY WAYS AND YOU WANT TO TO QUIT THEN YOU CAN TELL ME. TOPIC LOCKED. I AINT GONNA WASTE 1 HR OF MY TIME DOWNLOADING 3D MAX AND GIVE UP SKETCHUP PLUS ANOTHER 2 GB JUST TO MAKE YOU GUYS HAPPY. GO ON THEN. APPRECHIATE MY WORK NO MORE AND GO AND POST TO YOUR FAN MODELLERS. I WILL FIND A BETTER PLACE WERE PEOPLE ARE MORE FRIENDLY. THIS IS THE SECOND TOPIC I HAD TO LOCK BECAUSE OF SELFISH IGNORANT PEOPLE. ITS CLEAR THAT YOU GUYS HATE ME AND MY MODELS. FINE THEN. AS I SAID. YOU AINT SEEING ANYMORE OF MY MODELS HERE! GOODBYE. I AM EVEN THINKING ABOUT QUITING THIS FORUM. I HOPE I DO.

Hello peoples!

More then 3 posts on this vessel design group contained requests to make a RNLI Lifeboat. Well, I listend! And here is the Sevren class RNLI Lifeboat 27-17!

The letters RNLI stand for Royal National Lifeboat institution. They are lifeboats around the Solent. Sometimes you see the letters RNLB wich stand for Royal National Life Boat or Royal national life buoy. I hope this reaches the usual standards! as many people want an RNLI lifeboat!

ship offer:
If Anyone wishes to design a vessel, but is unsure how to do so, I will be more then happy to design it myself in my free time. Please ask here if you wish to have a new vessel designed.
It takes me more then one hour to design small vessels, but a few weeks to design luxury cruiseliners.

Note
I mostly design vessels which have recently been sent to the ship-breaking yard or have been sunk. The RNLI 17-27 is my 6th ship. With my first being the Akartuna and the second being the RMS Vessel, third being the Lindos, the fourth being the SS Oceanic, and the fith being the Nore Challenger tugboat

Projects under construction

Arctic cruiser - Explorer - recently sank in the Atlantic
English clipper - Cutty Sark
English battleship - HMS Belfast
Turkish car ferry - Eminonu

Sneak Peek
I am designing a new video which contains a virtual tour of all my ships on Youtube. Please keep posted. Youtube username: CaptainTitanic2008.

Hi Shipaddict

The names you supplied there are probably names of a turban class lifeboat, not a Sevren class.

I think its good for sketch up. ;)

Indeed! But that's not quite what I had in mid. And in all fairness, I don't think that's up to VSTEP standards either.

I hate to sound nasty and disappointing, Captain Titanic. I do sincerely appreciate your time and effort in responding to my request. But having worked as a 3rd party designer in the Flight Simulator community since 1995, I am a really picky *******. I know it and everybody who's ever worked with me on a project knows it.

Perhaps suggesting Sketchup as the main 3D software was the mistake in the first place. I don't know who suggested it, and I don't really care. It's a brilliant software for "enthusiasts," but you, as an advanced model designer, have to agree with me that it stands no chance when you compare it with proper 3d design packages such as LightWave 3D, 3D Studio Max, Gmax, etc.

I have no idea if you have any experience in 3rd party design for games, but I can tell you this: it's an exhausting team work that requires hours and hours of modeling, mapping, animating, texturing, beta testing and so on. [un]fortunately, it's up to VSTEP to finish the second important half of the design process which is the dynamics design. But still, in general, this is a time consuming process.

Again, I'm a truly sorry for bringing up all the negatives. The thing is that since SDK was dropped (http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,1071.0.html), the only option to convert models into the game is by asking VSTEP. It's either that or no other option. And since there are reasonable limits, and also because I'm a picky *******, I'd rather VSTEP spend its resources on converting top quality designs (http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,3702.0.html). But that's just my opinion. And I am only a user of this game. I can't find the original SDK discussion on the forum, but I was one of the ones in support of an open community. Something similar to the huge Flight Simulator community which I am familiar with. Anyway, that discussion is over now. I just wanted to let you know that it's very unlikely that VSTEP will accept sketchups. Have a look at their guidelines (http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1071.0;attach=1622). If you think I'm wrong, forget about everything I said and please accept my apology! ::)

Edited for language, DJM.

Captain Titanic, please calm down.

You can't keep having a go at other members because they make a comment that you don't like.  As I said in a previous topic, you must expect that all forum members have an opinion of their own.  Asking members to post positive comments only, will rarely work.  People are people, and you can't change that, no matter how much you try to.

Regards.

Oh, well. That was my feedback and I'm not going to change anything, I'm afraid. I don't remember "cursing" you or anybody else. Quote me if I'm wrong.

If you're talking about DJM's "edited for language" thing, that was my own nickname in the community and not a curse word directed at you or anybody else. Anyway, to cut it short, I'm pretty sure we don't understand each other and that's not the end of the world. Thanks for the kind words and good luck with your sketches!

p.s. For professional/legal reasons, I don't feel comfortable showing off my own work in an unrelated public forum. If you're interested, drop me a PM.

Hi.

Ok you win. I was going over the top. I am just saying, focus on the positives. Why go on about negatives? Not just ship models, but everything. Evertything has a positive.

SketchUp is quite a good software. Correct me if Im wrong, but all 3d fotwares, they all have the same tools, same times and so on. It may not reach up to standards. Therefore Vstep doesnt use it. Simple!

Please correct me if IM wrong,

thanks for your opinion anyway

Well if you post things on a forum and ask people for their opinion then you can expect positve aswell as negative remarks.

I personally think that way too many people give too much credit too models that just aren't that great at all. I see a lot of sketchup models that lack what it takes to be awesome, being called awesome nonetheless. If you do not want to hear critisism, then you shouldn't post pictures of a sketchup model that is nowhere near really good.

Okay, you spent two days on a model. I applaude that, I think it's great you make these things, but be realistic, if you look at your pics, and then looks at the pics that were - as linked before - in
this thread (http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,3702.0.html), then you cannot honestly say that yours is anywhere near it, can you?

Sketchup is just not that good, and even the better ones made with sketchup never look anything like the really great ones out there. And that's not negative, that's just me being realistic, so don't feel offended.

I have made 3d models for other sims too, and it takes more than two days to deliver a good model. You call yourself an advanced model designer, but I have to be honest, your model is not advanced at all. Don't be mad at me for being honest, you cannot expect everyone to say "good job, brilliant model"  if that just isn't  the truth, I'm sorry.

So it's not about being negative, it's about being honest. And if you cannot take the truth, then don't post these pictures.

For your effort, I say; Good job, and keep it up!!  Ditch sketchup and get yourself a decent modelling tool and the sky's the limit!!

To repeat all the others, when you ask opinions, don't be mad about the bad ones.

I wil never ever see a model designed in sketchup wich is going to be in the game.
Why?
Beceaus the detail just s*cks in sketchup.

Sketchup is a verry easy program.
If you manage to work with 3dsmax, and make good models with it, then you can call yourself an advanced model designer.

I voted your model was good, beceaus it is better then all your others, and for sketchup it isn't bad.

greetings captain Titanic,
it's like DJM said, and most of all other members.
Your effort is great, however if you have a look to the models of Goax75 & SimonDR,you can see a difference between you and them.
On the otherhand,my oppinion is you are trying to make a good model.Well look at me,i'm the same!
I did a smal try on some bouy's and lighthouse,with skets-up,you realy need 3-D max,to compair.
It's not bad critic, but you have(same as i)learn a lot more on the other 3-D programs.
Do not take anything personal, this is not the meaning of my responce, your doing fine only you need the right programs.
Regards
Marc

Ok Marcstrat whatever!

I used Google SketchUp. CLEARLY... You dont like google sketchup because its too bad. Well, I do! If you dont like my waysor models, just tell me and I shall delete ALL my models on here and quit NVDG. And I shall make more models which I like and find another place that apprechates my hard work!

Alternatively...

Maybe just tell me what software the good modelers used... I should use that from now on.

I DO NOT TOLLERATE: "Captain Titanic im sorry but this model is bad" blah blah blah... Tell me: Why is it to bad? What can I do to make it better? recommend things that I can add! list me better softwares! But "Sorry Captain T. Its bad" Is just uinacceptible, Unuseful and incomplete.
