Some New Ship Ideas?

How about the QM2, or better yet the new Poseidon from the 2006 film? That'd be cool. I love those ships  ;D

Greetings,
It seems that most of our members like those vessels(passenger). When the new release is out,we will have'Titanic','Ocean Star',and one P&O vessel.
Maybe in some future times,we can have more of these vessels.
My idea is,afther the release of the 2008-version is,to fix all the small features of the existing area's.
Those small things, can make a big difference. So afther these are fixed, from than on bring up new area's&vessels.
If you read the forum, there are somany wishes and idea's,that we cannot put them on the sideline. Some of them are very good to.And i'm just thinking of: passengers on the vessels,or some crewmembers on decks, cars that come out the ferrie service. These are just some idea's.
When we starting up some new vessels,i think it's better to have existing vessels,so if i can choose between you idea of vessels,it would be the QM2,instead of the Poseidon.
Regards
Marc

Greetings,
I did not want to put a new topic for this amazing vessel, but i did not wanted to hold it for you.
It seems that this is a new kind of fuelbarge, however it have a strong feeling that you can sail her in dutch waters.
This is how they do it in Apapa, infact those guy's has stolen fuel, and row as fast as they can away, from the crime-scene.
I dont know why,but i think they are easy to follow, dont you think?? ;D

i made this blueprint by my own, i set the movie on ''pause'' in all the scenes when you see the whole ship,
and i made the first level, top level, grand atrium level, boat deck level and the 7th level  :)

a lot of work, this is the ship from the movie with my blueprint below:

And would have a paddle wheel that worked rather than decoration!

Do any of these sort of boats atually still use a paddle wheel- other than specialist/preserved?

Sorry, I don't mean that STYLE of ship... I mean that it is still propelled by the paddle wheel.

I imagine most are built in this old style but actually powered by small screws or waterjets/archimedes screws.

I may well be totally wrong of course. It DOES happen. Rarely.

The Empress of the North was designed similar to a casino boat I am familiar with on the Ohio River, the Grand Victoria II.   We used the paddle wheel as the principal means of propulsion, it was run with a diesel electric drive.  We had a large rudder, about 12 feet long and 4 feet deep just in front of the wheel.  It was controlled by a tiller in the pilot house.   To help with docking and undocking we had two Z-drives and a bow thruster.  When the Ohio River was high, you could control the boat easily with just the paddlewheel and rudder, but the z-drives and thruster gave us a lot more control in tight situations.   The only steam paddle wheel vessel operating there now is the Delta Queen.

The world's oldest working steam paddle ship is actually Norwegian :)

And I would love to see it in SS sometimes in the future!

Actually, there are still a relatively large number of sternwheelers in use propelled by paddle.  Here on the Columbia and Willamette rivers there are at least three that I know of, plus the Empress of the North comes through here occasionally.

The only vessel that I have personally seen with a "decoration only" paddle wheel was on the Seine, in Paris.  I'm not 100% certain, but it seems like I remember a "real" sternwheeler in Paris as well.  Super easy to tell the two apart: if the paddle buckets aren't carrying white water almost to the top, it's a fake!  The wheel on the fake in Paris wasn't carrying any water.

Perhaps the picture of the Empress is misleading because it's being towed after it's grounding in April, instead of moving under her own power.

OK I stand corrected.

The only one I've ever seen was a side paddle ship - a bit like Waverley and that was in Dunkirk (stored).

Thanks for the info anyhow.
