Well, it was always possible that you were writing from another dimension. Or America. Or that you were just imagining the lovely warm sunshine.....

Too much marmite will do that! (Send you to another dimension. Or America)

And anyone who knows much about diabetes, and most of the medical profession, and my mother, and my wife, and I'd like to thank the producers of the show and the camera man's tea stirrer's assistant.....

No, wait! I turned over two pages. That's for another occasion.

Very important question: Does any one know the actual ingredients of Vegemite? If you can quote off the label that would be marvellous.

Thanks.

It's similar, but milder (huh! Weaklings). But I still don't see the list of ingredients. I checked teh Vegemite home page, but they won't say...

Hey guys..

It seems the true recipy is a bit of a secret..  ::)

But I do know that it's main ingredient is the yeast extract that's made from the leftover yeast from beer breweries. Vegemite has also got vegetable and spice additives added to it as the most important additional ingredients.

But I think that Marmite also has those, right? (wiki thinks so) Although Marmite is much more on the salty savoury side, I think.

Terry

How about this:

Ingredients:

Vegemite (Kraft General Foods NZ Ltd):

Yeast extract, salt, malt extract, colour (caramel), vegetable flavours, vitamins (niacin, thiamine, riboflavin)

Marmite (Sanatarium Health Food Company, NZ):

Yeast, sugar, salt, wheatgerm extract, mineral salt (508), colour (caramel), herbs, spices, vitamins (niacin, thiamin, riboflavin)

It's also got a small note under the ingredients:  "100% vegetarian" (but then, what do you expect from a company owned by the 7th Day Adventist church?)

Promite: (Masterfoods of Australia)

Vegetable protein extract, sugar, yeast, natural colour (caramel), salt, thickener (Wheat starch), emulsifier (Glycerol monostearate), spices, added vitamins, water

Hi Mike.

Thanks.

Strange how the overseas version of Marmite has sugar. The UK version doesn't. Some of the references I looked at said that the Australian & NZ versions were "milder". Must be the sugar.
