Well, maybe it would, but what Graphics-card is installed?
I needed a new lap-top as well, and i bought the Dell Vostro 1500.

Specs:
Intel Core Duo T7250 2,0 Ghz
2046 mb RAM
nVidia GeForce 8600m GT 265mb
Vista Ultimate 32 bit

It runs fine on max settings. Only when it starts to rain (in the game, ofcourse), it gets a bit laggy.
I had the same problem with SS06 on my (older) PC.
And i must admit, that i wanted the Vostro 1500 with these specs, so i could play SS08. ;D

Not a hope I'm afraid.

This is the minimum spec required for 08 and you are way below it. Sorry
http://www.shipsim.com/products/ship+simulator+2008.php?PHPSESSID=b34dea355de60468a0628baef7ae6297

This is the minimum for 06
http://www.shipsim.com/products/ship+simulator+2006.php

However, I found that my 2.8ghz ran it fine with lower than specificied memory.

As Eemspoort says, you need to give a bit of detail of your graphics card. But it doesn't appear so based on the information you have already given.

Just one thing... How long have you had this laptop? It does seem quite low spec for a new machine. Sorry, not meaning to offend, but lying is going to help.

I'm pleased for you.  :) If you can get it to run on a lower spec (I can with 06) then it's a bonus but not guaranteed.

The graphique card is an mobile Intel(R) 945GM express chipset family

I don't know it myself, but I have heard about it. I will try and find out if I can.

Try to install the laptop with windows xp. Vista takes so much ram/cpu which you better could use for your shipsim :)

I try to let my pc run on xp as long I can.

Thank you for your advise.

I would like to keep vista for now, even though I have been thinking about puting on XP, as you sugested, but I find it more usefull for the moment (what I need it for).

If I put the two systems, vista and XP, does anyone know how much ressources this would need, just XP, with the very minimum use, in orther to be able to run ship sim.
So using XP for ship sim, and vista for the rest.

But anyway if anyone can tell me if the graphic card is sutable anough to be able to run ship sim, that would be grand.

Since you allready have the laptop, try the demo on your laptop.

If it works really well, the full version should be able to run at an acceptable framerate, if its allready really slow, it probably will not.

You can get the demo's here

Hiya :)

This should be fine, it's a dual-core processor, but......

The graphique card is an mobile Intel(R) 945GM express chipset family

Here is your problem, this is a basic card and not designed for gaming.  It is almost inevitable that this would not run any newer games, especially Ship Simulator 2008.

The same thing i thought as well. My former lap-top had an Intel graphics chipset as well, and it only could run games from 10 years and older. :(

Yes, the Intel chipset graphics cards aren't great at all, and they're definitely not designed for gaming :(

I don't believe so :-\

I am not that familiar with the inner workings of Laptops though, I'm more a Desktop/Tower person ;)

Lap-tops are great. BUT! You can't upgrade most parts of a lap-top! The graphics-card can't be changed.
Only things you can change on a lap-top are the Hard-disk, maybe RAM and maybe the prossesor.

That's why you should allways think carefully, before buying a new lap-top. I thought about mine for a couple of weeks. And i decided, that i wanted a lap-top that could play games as well. So i paid a bit more, and got me the Vostro with GeForce 8600m GT card.

Oh, and i don't like to make a commercial here, but the Dell Vostro is a machine a can recomend to all. Other brands have lap-tops with the same specs as well, but for much higher prices!

So, try the SS08-demo, and see what it does. But don't expect to much...

I'm not sure if changing the processor is possible. Mostly that isn't the most important of all. Ram and hdd is good to upgrade, but as soon your processor is too slow... Better buy a new laptop.
Mostly what keeps you behind with gaming is that low performing graphic card.
Well... buy a new laptop too.
Laptops are just way more expensive at the end, just because the lifetime is shorter. I have a laptop because I travell a lot (at sea), it's a toshiba, but ship simulator 2006 barely runs on it. That's why I have a desktop pc to play games on  :)

I took some time to download (I live in an isolated place).

Well it doesn't run slow exept at the begining of the mission, "the solent", but then in the chanel its not fantastic but it is good.

So I'm going to see with the shop owner if its possible to be able bring it back if it doesn't work (probably tomorow). ;)

Solent is the longest loading / hardest on a system, so if that worked, then I guess the full version should go nicely ;)

It is true that upgrading laptops is ALMOST impossible. However, in most cases I've found the CPU i NOT soldered and is replacable or can be clocked.

However I haven't yet seen one where the graphic card is seperate. My new laptop has a dedicated graphics unit and memory, (as opposed to shared memory and processing chips) however, it is stil soldered to the main mother board.

So, you're stuck. I have 06 running very well on my old laptop which is under minimum 06 spec, but forget 08. The minimum spec really IS minimum.

Installing two operating systems besides each other is a good way to do it if you still want the other OS intact. It is however a pain to do this with Vista as you install XP after Vista and as XP is older then Vista it's boot loader will not recognice Vista and there for you will not be able to boot vista, unless you have the original Vista CD/DVD which most manufacurers don't supply, so I suggest not to try it.

And in most cases the warent will be invailed when you install another OS other, or at times even the same OS thats not on pair with factory install.

I have XP installed on mine, it came with Vista Premium but I am forced to change to be able to use it in the way I intended.

But most windoze (sic) OS have squandered memory when they come out, then the price of memory drops etc etc.

I'm concerned with vista tbh. I think 98(SE) and XP are the only 2 OS that I've ever liked (except the old Amiga, but that's older than most people here).
