Looking excellent so far!

The 3rd and 4th picture are obviously the same ship, I'm betting it is a barge. I would really like to see more barges, there small and make for a fun time, no doubt.

The 2nd picture is a new tug, can't wait!

And finally, the 1st picture-could this be a new speed boat, or maybe a police cruiser? I guess we will all have to wait and find out...

Best regards,

Carter  :captain:

Barges are fun. ;D You can never go wrong with a barge.

I have a wild guess about these teasers: I have noticed that they are all Rotterdam based; so what if Vstep is making DLC packs for each environment, featuring three new ships for those ports. Example:

Bora Bora:
Super yacht
tour ferry
sailing catamaran

Nice Swenson! This is what the Franchise needs right now.

Franchise? Have they finally decided to franchise it then? Hurrah they've repaired their fundamentally flawed business model then?????

Surprisingly impressive, actually. It's a bit of a shame that this thread is only on page 2 (and most of that is people repeating the same pictures...)- compared to the discussion on a rail sim which is now many pages.

It shows vstep has good technical and artistic ability- but always "misses the boat" as it were on implementing things. Still, wish them well though.

As one involved in testing the "Deo Favente" I can assure you that she is a beauty.  Mr. Robvilles' picture of the real vessel (above) shows how true to life that little video is.

Traddles, here I do not agree with you at all. If you think this model look true to life, I think you need better glasses or exam your eyes, hehe. Or your expectations for what looks realistic is much lower than mine.

This graphic should have been okay if this was game hold the standards of a simulator game, but now it does not. Steering and drive forward and backwards are nearly the only thing which are simulated. Even the engines are not simulated, they are eternal machines and do not need to refuel. So this game is more a shipdriving game and not much more. But that is my opinion, and if one person have an opinion he can not be sure that anyone will agree with him, but he can be 100% sure that there will be atleast one who will disagree, thats how we humans are.

Amen to that.

Well, I think he's more speaking about the looks rather than the technical part.

I did my best at capturing every single detail. From the deck machinery to little doorhooks to the bridge interior. So it was more the limit caused by a game engine that made me draw a line at the ammount of polygons I could use. There are limits. If I had more time and polygon usage would be infinite, I would for sure model every tiny bit there is to be found.

So for game standarts like SSE, closer to the real thing would be only a matter of engine graphics.

To give an idea of how far only geometry does the job, and the rest is graphic wise, see these 2 screenshots below:

Model in google Sketchup.
best reaction to this could be something like "Whow that looks well done"

While the same model is rendered inside a game engine:

Provoked over 3 million views, in worldwide gaming networks posted and an average response similar to "OMFG I NEED TO PLAY THIS!!111!1"

(Images are not mine. 3d work is made by Matthew Dewinkeleer for a Crysis Titanic project)

mr roboville, I of cource agree with you that it is the game engine that can not  handle more information. But it does not become any better cause of an game engine which can not use modern techniques. It is a bit like when a two year old child have make some lines and some colour mess and tell it is a ship. We will then say that it looks realy great and that our child is good with painting. But if you or I do the same no one will say that it looks like a great ship(at least most persons, may our child will say it is a good ship, hehe). It is about the same with saying that the ships in SSE looks great and stunning.

That's true, as it indeed depends on what the purpose is for, who made it, and how it looks like.
So I think comments must be based on the game/project/thing it's all about.
Graphics in SSE are no match to CryEngine for example. But that wouldn't mean it doesn't look well or anything made for it.
So content made for SSE, must be judged by SSE standarts (with of course some general eye for certain aspects)
But I'm talking double here, you get the idea  ;)

the graphics of the ships could be accepted when the physics of the ships would be not that stupid.

no current drift, no wind drift, a ridiculous silly and simple left-right-ahead-astern operation. a child can steer the latitude through rotterdam. thats the true death of shipsim imo.

cheers
