Italian media have reported that Carnival Cruises have given the job of removing the Costa Concordia to Dockwise.
The Dockwise Vanguard will carry the Costa Concordia away from Giglio in the first half of next year..

The biggest salvage operation of its kind, yes they are probably already there capturing most of the action.
Although i do think the CC needs to be towed a bit of coast, you don't want the Dockwise crashing into the docks either whilst "sinking"

This ship sank in January 2012 and it took over two years, i would have personally made a floating wreck out of it as a tourist destination, however, as there has been fatalities involved i would be happy if they can remove it as soon as possible

But I know a lot of people have viewed and I know that in a geography debate the island has economically benefited I'm sure they will be glad to see the island as it was before

It's become very unlikely the Dockwise Vanguard will be used to transport the Costa Concordia from Giglio next July.
This is due to environmental hazards, and to keep the job of scraping her in Italy.
Instead she will probably be refloated and towed to an Italian port like Genua.

Yes, I was going to ask the same question as according to AIS it is currently off the coast of South Africa heading towards the Firth of Forth in Scotland!

Around midday, at the time of the refloating, I was watching the live-stream, and heard distant church bells playing Ave Maria..That was a nice moment. I'm sure the island inhabitants are fed up with the wreck by now, and will be relieved to see her go..

Of course, but I believe that Giglio was just a little Italian island before the crash...On the other hand, after the crash the whole world learnt about it and thousands of people went there to see Costa Concordia, so I don't think that they didn't have any benefit from the wreckage....Just an opinion
