Can't find my mission: what am i doing wrong?
« on: September 13, 2011, 20:10:20 »

I created a new mission in de mission-creater, testen it in the m-c, en saved it in the missions folder.    But: i can't find it. I don't know if it is possible to open a mission i created on my computer, but i have uploaded it as an attachment to this post. If it's impossible, please post it, so i can think of something else.

I hope you'l find my mistakes in the files below.

Hello Ralph,

I tried to open you mission in the ME but it resulted in a crash.

Can you please tell us which ship(s) you have used as Player ship(s) and which is the environment.

Yes,
Please put both mission files into one Compressed Folder before you post them here.
You can make a compressed folder by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting New > Compressed folder.
If you have not already done so, you can download the Mission Editor Notes from:

Hi Ralph,

Your mission loaded into the ME with no trouble.
I found it in SSE>Single missions as “At the slibway. Beta.”, and it started up OK.
A quick look in the editor showed nothing obvious to cause trouble. It looks like a well-constructed mission.

Tonight I’ll spend more time with it to see if there is anything that might explain your problem.

Hi Ralph,

When you first save a new mission, be sure that you click File > Save as, and then click the [User Missions] button to be sure that your mission is put in the correct folder.
Often, when you first click Save as, it is pointing to some other folder—not the one where SSE looks for Single missions.

I did every thing you said, but it's still not showing up. Does anyone know something else that might caused this?

If there is another copy, or any mission with the same title, in one of the other mission folders, then neither will appear in the lists. In that case, you should see a red warning message when you start SSE.
Check the campaign folders for a copy that you may have inadvertently saved there.

What i did was:

1. c:\.............\documents\ShipSimextremes Userdata\missions
2. deleted all the content in the folder
3. downloaden the zip-file i posted here before
4. extracted the two files into missions
5. started the game
6. No missions (except for the tutorial)

Any other suggestions? Or should i just reïnstall the entire game?

Hello Ralph,

The fact that you have deleted all the missions does call for a re-installation of SSE. This is the folder which stores all the missions - the default missions that came with SSE, the download content missions and your own mission(s).

MVSmith may offer you more expert guidance.

I only deleted the single missions. There is no diference noticable in the game without those missions. But i think i'm going to reinstall the game anyway.

Hi Ralph,

All of the missions that come with SSE or with DLCs are not stored in your Userdata > Missions folder, but in …Vstep > ShipSimExtremes > Projects > ShipSimExtremes > Data > Missions.
There are two subfolders: Campaigns and Missions. Single missions that come with the game are in that last subfolder.
It is possible to access those two subfolders in the Mission Editor if you press the [Game Missions] button in either the Open mission or the Save mission as panel.

If, when you reinstalled SSE, you elected to save profile and missions, you could still have a duplicate mission.

Have you tried saving the mission with an entirely new title and file name?

Marty

Hello Ralph,

I regret there was an error on my part when I told you that the default missions of SSE were in the User Data folder. Marty has provided you with the correct information. Sorry, if I misled you in any way.

Hi Ralph,

I’ve run out of ideas at the moment, so I’ll ask for your Version & Build numbers, and whether you got it from STEAM. I might as well ask for you DxDiag, but I’ve no idea what that could tell me.

Also, please make a mission with only one environment and put Apollo in it, but nothing else—no mooring or any other entities. Give it a very simple title, with no special characters or punctuation.

Marty

What language is your SSE currently using?

Hi Ralph,

If your SSE is in Dutch, do this:
Open your slibway mission in the ME and in the Mission Properties select NL as the language,
Save the mission and look for it in SSE Single missions.
SSE will usually only see missions that are in its language.

Marty

Hi Ralph,

You have two alternatives:
You can change your installed language to EN, or you can do as you just did—mark the language in the mission properties as NL, even though the text is actually in English.
Most Dutch and German creators who Upload to the CMMs do the latter—marking the missions NL, or DE because they can keep their native language on SSE. However, that makes it necessary for EN—type CMMs to switch to those languages to download their submissions.

I suggest keeping your native language in SSE and saving your mission as NL while you are developing it with English text. If and when you want to submit it to the CMMs, you can do a final save in EN.  That will allow the CMMs to see it and download it. You might need to temporarily move the .NL file to your desktop, or you may be able to submit it with both language files—I’ve never tried that.

To change the in-game language temporarily without re-installing, you can edit the registry:
Type regedit into the search box at the bottom of the Start menu.
Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Vstep\ShipSimExtremes\Language_Ingame.

It might be easier to get there by searching for NL but you may need to Search again to find the right entry.
Right-click on Language_Ingame and select Modify…
Once you have done that, running regedit should take you back to that entry—until you do something else with regedit.

Marty
