Ok, no probs....laptops are not the best choice still, unless you know where you can find a good one which is tricky. How much are you willing to spend?

If I was you, you would get far much better performance out of a desktop, and if you are looking for a computer to run SSE, laptops would be my last choice. :-\

Answer to your question, That laptop isn't really up to it. Minimum specs for processors are 3.0GHz, laptop is 2.2GHz (and thats even if you go for that particular processor on that page). If you go for the 3GB of RAM (free upgrade) then you'd be scraping it, would be better if you went for the 4GB. And finally, the graphics is meant for office work not designed for usage with games.

I converted 400$ to around £246, I know in the UK atleast that's not a huge amount, and your best bet is getting a desktop. :-\

Yeah, I was gonna say get an Alienware x17 for 1.5k. It sounds to me like you are serious about a good machine to run this thing. Obviously you want a great computer for a low price, but since we are talking about SSE here a desktop is the only option. A decent desktop for me it was 1.2k, it looks like you have alot of saving up to do, i mean the last thing you want is to spend 400$ on a computer who won't run SSE in style...unlesss Mad_Fred has an idea

Hello Dexter,

Your budget of $400 is a bit on the low side. I ran a quick check on what you will get for that and chose the lower prices and this is what I got - Processor, Motherboard, RAM, Graphics card, Power supply and the hard disk. You still need a DVD drive, a casing, Windows 7 and a monitor.

NVIDIA GeForce 405

Hello Dexter,

SSE requires the Geforce 8800 GT as a minimum and has a ranking of88. The Geforce 405 has a ranking of 314 which obviously is way below the 8800 GT. The 405 may impact the performance of SSE severely.

that card could acually do the trick because I have a ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series, make sure it comes with abour 4G of RAM and your last thing is something along the lines of Intel core I7 CPU 870 at least 2.93ghz minimum but 3 ghz would be great also

How do i tell how much RAM is on the graphics card? I just buy computers thinking that anything will work on it.

Today most graphic cards have 512 MB RAM, though 1 GB RAM is becoming common. The high end cards have 2 GB RAM .

Hello Dex,

To run SSE without problems a processor with a "speed" of minimum 3.0 Ghz (Gigahertz) would be best. Try not to go below this but if you have to then do NOT go for a processor BELOW 2.8 Ghz,

I just checked out the specs ....

The processors for choice range from 2.13 Ghz to 2.66 Ghz .... below the 3.0 Ghz recommended for SSE.

Laptops are not really suggested for gaming .... as been told to you in the posts above .... it's your call now.

If you are keen on a laptop Alienware M 17x is the one for you ok, but you will need $1500 to purchase one. That's the only type of laptop if you want to be guaranteed SSE will run on a laptop. If you don't have that much money, you will have to forget completely about having SSE on a laptop.

I have found this topic about a this guy who also is in a similar situation and wondering about ghz, http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071111040842AAH6Nll. The next article here http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-ghz.htm tells you what is GHz. SSE is tougher on computers than any other game out there, this was the only way to put things together for this game by the looks of it. I mean they even cut back on eye-candy detail which I am not happy about, but they had to do it because they belive that 90% at least of the buyers don't have a good computer.

I really don't want you to get SSE and then wake up it has all these problems, crashes, screen freeze, Blue Screen of Death, errors.......etc.Only thing I would suggest is keep on saving up, if you truly want to be able to run SSE
