If you don't watch it yourself, then what is the whole point of making this topic?  :-\

I am always amazed by peoples' enthusiasm for celebrating an event to which they have not been invited, but which they are paying for!

I will be flying from Cyprus to Lanzarote on the day in question, if that nonsense is the in-flight entertainment then you will read about me in the news.

The church didn't get involved with the marriage racket untill later on..
I don't much care for these 'holy ceremonies', so I won't be watching..

How ironic

"I'm not going to watch it cos it's boring' [sic] instead I'm going to do XYZ"

Tell you what, chaps, I'm not overly bothered what you are going to do to get away from it. In fact the talk of what people think about it is nearly as boring as the actual event.

Can't you just leave off? If you don't want to watch it (I don't) then fine. But why bore the world with your alternative plans. Just because someone else is happy it doesn't mean you have to try and spoil it. Just plod on with your tiny boring lives and leave them alone.

To be quite honest guys, this is quite a big event for us Brits. It's the first Royal wedding since 1981, and apart from that Prince William is marrying someone who isn't a royal.

I won't be an avid watcher, but I will watch the wedding ceremony (I've missed it now but it's on record in the house).

Come on, don't be so ignorant. You wouldn't be so ignorant if it was in your country or state ;)

Yes they would Capt S.

I just can't see the point of people saying it's boring and then going to great lengths to tell us what they are doing instead.

I'm not interested if people are uninterested. If they can't just leave off 2 young kids getting married then it's a fault with them, not bill and cat.

When you consider how much money we are paying for it, and then the government says we are in a financial crisis and the cuts being made to essential services like hospitals?

I'm surprised at your lack of foresight there, Mr TFM.

600,000 extra visitors to Britain- probably spending £200-£2000 each whilst here.

Not only the extra visitors today, but 2bn people will be seeing Britain doing what it does best- traditional ceremonies etc... Bit different to the usual anti-British news. How much good will this do for our image abroad for years to come?

The costs? You mean the costs paid by the Windsors and Middletons themselves? GB only paying for security... 45% of security costs (Police overtime) going back as PAYE/NIC tax. The rest, well coppers have more money to spend which they will spend in shops.

I keep seeing this "oooh too expensive" remark- and it's normally by those who are against the cuts on the ground that the state will kick start the economy. The argument is self defeating. ANd anyone who wants to argue the economic point had better do a little research first.

When you have been fortunate enough to be married for over 53 years, it might be worth thinking about the kind of commitment made by these two young people. If their marriage causes over a billion people around the world to watch it, surely that says something for the institution of marriage. Sadly few people in my country seem to think it worthwhile to make such a commitment nowadays. What was once regarded as "living in sin" is now almost the norm, how very indicative of the world of today. :o I have no compunction in saying that I admire our Royal Family and our Queen who has dedicated herself to serving our people, never faltering in that dedication in spite of many setbacks. What a pity that our politicians do not act in a similar fashion and serve their people instead of themselves. That young couple are going to have their whole lives laid open for all to criticise and make fun of, just be glad to be an ordinary person who can succeed or fail in quiet privacy.

Angus.

2 kisses and over million people watching them appear on the balcony was amazing! I couldnt believe that so many people were all over the place at the palace, Hyde park and near British Museum. I think that Diana would have been very proud to see her son get married  :-\

The planes also looked amazing. It was like a design 50 years apart from each other.

I am very excited for the jubilee next year and maybe another Royal Wedding will soon arrive herein England  ;D

I confess I watched most of the event, though I skipped the church bit..
It was a grand affair, and fortunately the weather stayed good.. :)
(it seemed Harry rather liked Pippa , who knows .. ;)  )

Well said, Angus.

I don't see people making this much of a fuss when republicans have a 'civil partnership'.

53 years... That's a hell of an achievement, Angus.
