Like my previous two picture up there^^^(second ones down)

I read on a page that it could make the ship turn faster and causes less drag.

The idea of the becker rudder is that for every degree of rudder angle you put on the flap will move around 2 degrees, which turns it into a wing shape and gives much better manoeuvrability.

The downsides are:

- if you put too much helm on the rudder can stall in the same way as a wing (this can happen with ordinary rudders too but it is not as bad as a becker)

- it is more moving parts under the water and if it breaks it means either divers, if you are lucky, or a drydock

- when you go astern at any more than a crawl the forces on the flap are huge (see above regarding divers / drydock)

If you ask most captains they will tell you that Becker rudders are great, if you ask most chief engineers they will swear at you.

OK thanks :)

So your opinion is it worth having one on a D-C ferry?

(The Spirit of France has them)

Dover - Calais is probably one of the few routes where the gain in manoeuvrability outweighs the disadvantages, so much as it pains me, I would probably have to say yes.

No, the flap should be much smaller, think along the lines of the flaps on aircraft wings.

You didn't think I forgot her ;)

OK folks some updates ;D

She is currently in a beta stage now, although it turns out VS Doesn't like my SS required Texture maps so it comes out wierd... :/

but it pointed out a few errors that have been fixed

According to the kerkythea plug in for SU, she is about 30,000 triangles below the maximum, which is good, although is Kerkythea accurate?

so here are some screenshots and renders

General SU Shots:

Bridge Interior:

Fresh renders:

The one texture that is less impressive is the doors/portholes :/

Anyone got any suggestions? if I am running light on polys I could make them...

looks great! ;D :2thumbs:

but u wer asking for help on doors/windows... try adding more texture. like that door in the bridge with the porthole. u could probably make the porthole frame stick out a bit and add a new texture to the window.

Thanks

The knob isn't square ;)

The square is the outline and cut out with the doorknob inside

It still doesn't look quite right though, but I am not sure why...

Is it a door where you must pull down the yellow bar to open it?
