Like MokMok said, QV need to develop.. Take a look at Rigs Of Rods. This game is made (the core) by one singel man, in his spare time, and this game supports dual and multicore.

I hope Vstep and QV will make the next version of SS fully compatible with multicores.

Vstep could release a patch for SSE in which a version of Questviewer.exe is incorporated which uitilizes more than one CPU core. That version would be developed by Quest itself.

Yeah, if they just solve multicore support, I'm happy  ;D

Never use RoR as an example, it completely destroys processors. If you want some sort of comparison, try LFS. Best framerates I've ever seen with such complicated physics.

I would prefer to see 64bit support, there's no excuses anymore as AMD64 has been around for 8 years now.

Yes intel use the AMD64 instruction set too in case some were wondering, although the P4 and core solo used a hacked version that only emulated it.

Hi All,

I'm just wondering whether we may be getting a little too hung up on the FPS rather than the actual appearance and "playability"? For example - I'm lucky enough to have a fairly meaty processor 3.4 Ghz, I am working on some missions that are VERY AI intensive.......when I run them the indicated FPS even in open sea fluctuates between 8 and 11, well down on what is recommended however the visual appearance is fine and relatively smooth, certainly smooth enough so as to look ok. The missions are for the POR with the AI all being other ferries and commercial traffic, it might not look so good if I was trying to speed along in a fast craft.......but the point that I am trying to make ( perhaps mistakenly ) is that if you are happy/satisfied with the look and feel when running a mission, does it really matter if the indicated FPS is low?

regards,

Andy

Hi Andy,

There seems to be a big "hunger" for high FPS. Before Update 1.3.5, I like all others saw a drastic drop in FPS (the max I saw was 13 FPS) but it did not really bother me that much. Post 1.3.5, there has been an increase in the FPS but it did not make me go "ooh and "aah" !!!  ;D You may have also noticed that SSE is often compared to many other games whose FPS is super high. Frankly, if you do not have FRAPS running in the background you may never even notice. Marty, has repeatedly said that if an FPS of 15 has been achieved that is good enough.

Hi vin_sun,

Here is a quick example from the mission I am currently working on - player ship POR in center, 5 moving AI ships, very rough sea, indicated FPS only 10 - 11 but everything moving smoothly.

regards,

Andy

With my laptop, which had a intel core 2 duo 2.6ghz i used to be lucky if i hit 20FPS, and although loading times decreased the FPS actually dropped.
(i use past tense as my laptop is currently with the manufactorer after bad sectors showed there ugly face)

Hi,
The motherboard is the Sabretooth P67, just recently purchased. Was previously running SS back in Jan with an I5-650 3.2 ghz processor and a single Nvidia gtx 570 Graphics Card. With the previous setup was getting between 15-35 fps.Although i know frame-rates is not everything with this game as it works adequately with anything above 15 fps.

With this new processors we don't need Watercooling if you keep them non-overclocked, they are very fresh. Mine is overclocked to 4.2GHz with the stock cooling, so you can see ;D
