What kind of framerates do the rest of you guys out there get when playing SSE after the 1.3.5 patch install?
I seem to get 20-25 fps with PoR in harbour, with smaller vessels it decreases significally.

My PC: A brand new MSI GT663R gaming laptop(far too expensive!) with the following stats:

Processor
CPU: Intel Core i7-740QM (1.73GHz/L3 6 MB/QPI)
Chipset: Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset
Graphic Chip: nVidia GeForce GTX 460M (1.5 GB GDDR5, DX11)
Display: 15.6 inch WUXGA (1920x1080) LED Full HD
Memory: 12 GB DDR3
Hard Disk: 1 TB (500 GB 7200 RPM x2 Raid 0)

Quite frankly, I'm a wee bit disappointed, I thought this PC was pretty top-notch and would give me better performance than this. Am I wrong? Is this normal for a PC with stats like this?
If not, what can I do to improve it? Any clever ideas, anyone?

Before the patch I would get about 6fps in missions; now I get 16-18. For me the patch was a huge improvement!

Hello,
Before 1.3.5  14-24 fps in harbour, and 20-36 fps on open sea.
After the patch 25-40 in harbour and 30-60 fps on open sea. :thumbs:

Go to fraps.com and download the progam there. Running that first and then start SSE will get you seen the frames per second in the corner.

I have 18-26 fps in Port of Rotterdam harbour and open sea 30-35 fps
   Shipsim2008 I have 58-64 fps

Hello Apejens,

You are fortunate that you are getting 20 ~ 25 FPS with just 1.73 Ghz processor.

The System Requirements of SSE recommends 3.0 Ghz as a minimum.

Well , one can always say that noteboks aren't designed for gaming, but mine is, and I thought I'd get better results than this. Is there someone who knows of ways to "boost" the performance?

Check if you can "overclock" the processor but do it only if you are CONFIDENT with the operation !!!

Your netbook is for gaming.But do not try to OC CPU in netbook because the cooler is not designed for higher CPU "speed".

My computer has a "turbo"(overclock) button, as well as an own button for starting an extra fan...so I think I wouldn't be a problem...?

Thanks for offering a good piece of advice to my suggestion of overclocking. In many computer forums they always say overclock ONLY if you are comfortable with it. But as you say it is not recommended for notebooks I suppose it is best not to do it.

1.73GHz is nowhere near the speed required by SSE. The main controlling program—QuestViewer—uses only one core.
However, some modules outside of QV use other cores, and Windows will run system calls and background processes in other cores. This precludes the use of the single-core “Turbo boost”.
That feature is disabled in the BIOS by many computer manufacturers because it often leads to calls to their customer support or to the local fire brigade.
“Gaming notebook” is pretty much an oxymoron.

Well, mr. mvsmith, I've used the boost function for a while now, and it raised the framerates.
As to your comment on gaming notebooks - be aware that some people need an all-round PC due to spacing problems etc. That's why I bought a high spec notebook - in order to get a somewhat ok gaming experience.

If you are getting over 20 FPS, what is your complaint?
SSE is playable at 15 FPS. There is little reason to expect rates much higher than that.

For reasons I explained, Turbo boost cannot improve the performance in SSE.
You are trying to run with a 1.73GHz processor while the requirement is for 3GHz.
What happens in other games is entirely irrelevant. SSE is a very different program from the others.

It will solve if Vstep made the game working on multiply cores. (Witch they haven't, why is a mystery to me!)
Singelcore is old these days.


To run SS good you need a fast singelcore processor (the old ones works better then the new, I7's,

The compagny which develops the QuestViewer.exe program should develop a version which uitilizes more than one CPU core.

Like MokMok said, QV need to develop.. Take a look at Rigs Of Rods. This game is made (the core) by one singel man, in his spare time, and this game supports dual and multicore.

I hope Vstep and QV will make the next version of SS fully compatible with multicores.

Btw, I can add that after the latest patch 1.3.5, my problems are solved. No fps drops at all, and I have the Intel I7.  :thumbs:
