Total nonesense.
First of all, it's too big and worth too much money to close down, that would be stupid.
Secondly, they know who's active and who's not, they don't need you to show them that.
Thirdly, they'll just expand if needs be, like they have before, it's just a matter of spreading the load.
Also, if they really had such problems, don't you think it would have been made public in some way other than 'some friend you have on there' sending you a message like that? It's a ~50 billion dollar operation, don't you think someone would inform the media if it was having big problems with their population size?
And why would they detele inactive members? They are not using up any bandwidth, they just take a bit of storage space. They could better delete the VERY active members then..
And facebook has not been slow for me at all. You just need good hardware and to keep everything up to date aswell, software wise and such, to get the best out of it.
More and more people upload more and more stuff to their accounts, and it gets bigger and bigger, picture sizes increase as cameras get better, and so on, so it's not strange that you need to wait for a few seconds here and there, if you haven't got everything clicking at your end, or if your pc isn't the newest one around. For me, it's never been slow at all. There's been the odd day where there have been glitches, but that's true everywhere.
And they don't need to delete members to make room.. they'll just make room for more members by expanding. Or did you guys think they started out with the hardware to accomodate the number of current users?
It's gonna be okay, I would say.
