Facebook Closing down???
« on: February 14, 2011, 22:50:13 »

I just got this from a facebook friend

Facebook is suppose to be closing down March 15 in is recently becoming very overpopulated. There have been many members complaining that Facebook is becoming very slow. Records show that the reason is that there are many active Facebook members and, on the other side, many new Facebook members.

We will be sending this message around to see if members are active or not. If you are active please send to at least 15 other users using Copy+Paste to show that you are still active. *Those who do not send this message within 2 weeks will be deleted without hesitation to create more space.*

Send this message to all your friends and to show me that your still active and you will not be deleted.

Founder of Facebook,

Mark Zuckerberg

Thats all a load of rubbish, just a made up chainmail message to make you think that. Dont believe everything you see on the internet.

Edited for language. Totally uncalled for.

Agreed. Chainmail is a very roundabout way of harvesting email addresses, names and other info.

Anything that asks you to copy/paste, click a link or forward it on is usually malicious, no matter how 'nice' it may seem.

I've seen chainmail disguised as Cancer Research appeals, personal appeals and of course, offers of Nigerian fortunes.

Don't trust 'em.

I can guarantee that nothing will happen on March 15th. Facebook makes far too much money to close down, aside from the fact that it is now a large multinational company.

I think it IS a hoax. No way a super popular website should close down or get rid of their members is all a prank by someone imitating the founder. If it is not a hoax, get ready to send hate mail to them for closing it

You do know the Earth won't stop spinning if this "Facebook" does close down... don't you?

Just checking...  !:)

Total nonesense.

First of all, it's too big and worth too much money to close down, that would be stupid.  :P

Secondly, they know who's active and who's not, they don't need you to show them that.

Thirdly, they'll just expand if needs be, like they have before, it's just a matter of spreading the load.

Also, if they really had such problems, don't you think it would have been made public in some way other than 'some friend you have on there' sending you a message like that?  It's a ~50 billion dollar operation, don't you think someone would inform the media if it was having big problems with their population size? :P

And why would they detele inactive members? They are not using up any bandwidth, they just take a bit of storage space. They could better delete the VERY active members then..  ::)

And facebook has not been slow for me at all. You just need good hardware and to keep everything up to date aswell, software wise and such, to get the best out of it.

More and more people upload more and more stuff to their accounts, and it gets bigger and bigger, picture sizes increase as cameras get better, and so on, so it's not strange that you need to wait for a few seconds here and there, if you haven't got everything clicking at your end, or if your pc isn't the newest one around. For me, it's never been slow at all. There's been the odd day where there have been glitches, but that's true everywhere.

And they don't need to delete members to make room.. they'll just make room for more members by expanding. Or did you guys think they started out with the hardware to accomodate the number of current users?  ;)

It's gonna be okay, I would say.  ;D

Got the same thing on a different site last year. People shouldn't be allowed to do these as well, as I also got chainmail of different tales.

As far as I know, Facebook is staying operational Until it's replaced a "new" social networking craze. (why can't poeple just use the phone these days, i mean, do you really have to right on someones wall that your going to call them in 2 minuets time?!?)

Social networking is going over the top, soon there will be facebook phones etc, I've already seen on the news a phone with a facebook shortcut button. Which is going too far really, at some point it will just blow over..

There are limits, they cant upgrade forever, until other technology keeps up. And it'll end up like bebo, everyone moves to somewhere else. yes, theres millions on it and using it, but all good things come to an end..
