Allure of the Seas Delivered.
« on: October 29, 2010, 04:10:17 »

On October 28, 2010, Turku Shipyard delivered the Allure of the Seas to Royal Caribbean International. The Allure of the Seas and its sistership Oasis of the Seas are the culmination of more than 40 years of product development cooperation between the cruise line, the shipyard and the maritime cluster. The 225,000-ton Oasis class vessels are 361m in length. The Allure of the Seas can accommodate 6,360 passengers at maximum. In comparison, the Song of Norway delivered to the same customer in 1970 was 168m long with a gross tonnage of 18,400; in other words, the Allure of the Seas is some 12 times as large.

Well, she is the largest afloat, the different is made by paint or steel  - even 15 millimetres more than the "Oasis"!

I've been tracking the ship with the marine traffic ais-service and it seems to have it's own tracking going on and broadcasting it over internet, like the voluntary land based stations :)
Usually when ship goes to the middle of the baltic it's going to be out of range, but this one is visible and all vessels near it too.
I could be wrong but it seems to be like that, and also with satellite-internet which I strongly believe is fitted to that vessel, it can be done.
There are some videos on youtube available, looks like it was little foggy out there, also the departure was a little late cause of some problem with propulsion systems. :)

You mean the tracking site? It's this (http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais), at this very moment just going limbo the great belt bridge, but going so slow atm, just 13kn, speeding up.

LOL you're fast. :)
I pasted that link (great song btw) before to another forum and somehow ended up here too, ctrl+c + ctrl+v didn't work like I wanted or so, but now it's fixed.

But the TFMs link it better one with coordinates and so use it :)

And here's my original false  link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LncAQR47eZo) about gaga, if you're interested.

I took this screen capture when the pilot left the ship, so the port looks like to be Turku. :)

Now I can also confirm it's broadcasting it's position by itself, some 200nm off the coast of Spain and still visible on AIS. :)

As we can read in the German newspapers, there is a kind of a contest now between both vessels (ALLURE and OASIS), since their masters worry about the correct length of their ships. Now the NASA should do the measure...
