no sli i dont have the money for that. and how do tell if its dedicated cause it only says theres 1280 mb gddr5
and would the 470 show better results over the 9800GTX+ in shipsim?

It's dedicated  This king of graphic cards does not use shared memory. It's plenty of memory, more than enough to run SSE. This graphic card should also be much better than 9800GTX+, even in SSE, if everything is right.

If you are going to plug it into your existing computer, remember that it needs two adjacent slots and sufficient power supply capacity.

Also, the graphics card is not the whole story. Rendering time is only a part of the frame period. The other part is the time needed by the CPU to calculate the positions and attitudes of every object that can move before the rendering of the next frame can begin. This is a greater fraction of the frame period than in most other games.

Yeah, a 9800 GTX+ should be more than able to run the game. It's 720-30 core clock, am I right? I have a fault 9800 GT. It's supposed to be set at 600 core core clock when shipped but mine was set at 550. So I had to over clock it and all this. It was a mess. Anyway! I hope you figure your problems out. Remember, you can overclock your RAM, CPU, MOTHERBOARD, and GPU in the Nvidia control panel!  :2thumbs:

Two 6pin connectors, and at least a good 600W power supply.

yea my current card takes up 2 slots as well.

and a a have a 650W psu

the minimum is a 550

and how do you do all that in the nivdea control panel?

I should mention that Vista and Win7 users should consider using the classic theme rather than running Aero; especially if you run windowed. Multi-threading means much higher memory traffic, so you need DDR3 RAM to avoid that bottleneck.

I see posts from folks with fast GFX and fast CPUs who still complain about low frame rates in places that do not have heavy AI or the other known FR killers. I suspect their systems need housekeeping rather than upgrades.

As for those who claim that SSE is unplayable at 20 FPS, perhaps FRAPS doesn’t accurately report frame rate. One quick check on whether you are getting to low a frame rate is to, with camera 1 zoomed out on a busy scene, rotate the scene quickly with the mouse and stop quickly. If the scene coasts to a stop over several frames, you have a low FR.

The FR varies considerably depending upon the view. The difference can be 10 FPS between camera 1 zoomed out and camera 2 zoomed in on the overhead. (This is how you can get fastest mission time in 2008, where true speed varies with frame rate. I suspect that may be the case in SSE as well, but I’m waiting for an ME to test it.)
