We all are going to die on 21st December 2012. Discuss.

Me first. This is based on Mayan (ancient civilisation) theory that the planet will end.

1)NO. This is OUR interpretation of THEIR OPINION.

2)The Mayans couldn't even predict their own anhialation

3)In Red Dwarf style, there IS NO point 3, just reflect on the importance of point 2.

4)We can't even read the rest of the stone tablet this was inscribed upon

5)Just because they are making a film, doesn't mean it's true (although Nasa has been receiving lots of questions about it)

6)Bono, Geldof and Blair are all probably already doing a benefit gig for it.

I'm kind of getting tired of "end of the world" topics. Why does everybody think that the world will end in 2012?

Actually there are alot of reasons but....

I don't think that the world will end...

I just think that the Aliens that altered the coarse of your lives once already when they passed by on the same asteroid that is supposed to pass by again in 2012 about 3200 years ago (Around the time of the stories "The Iliad" and "The Odyssey") are going to return.

I wonder if the ones that came up with 21/12/2012, took into account the fact that the mayan calendar does not take leapyears into account, so that even if there was some truth in this, which there isn't, the date is probably way off anyway..

Seriously, some of those that study the ancient cultures of central and south america seriously, have concluded that there is actually no mentioning whatsoever about an apocalyptic event, in mayan 'historical documents' (that includes wall paintings and stone carvings and tablets and folklore and all that).

All a load of nonesense, made up by greedy people, so that they can make money off of books that they write and sell to those that are dumb enough to buy into it. Noting is factual, everything is misinterpreted or simply made up.

So.. No.. we don't die on that date.. we'll die out some other time in the future, but not by 2012.

If this was 100% correct, would it be on news every single day. And not 2 programs per. year on discovery. This is just something researchers think and scare peoples with.

To be honest, with the way our tax bill is going to go up to pay for the 2012 Olympics, I'm not sure the end of the world is going to be a bad thing.

I believe we will keep going on past December, 21, 2012 (If I can remember, it is the Winter Solstice on the 21 of December), we are alive and well and we'll keep going on till the sun burns out (Trillions of years from now).

i would have to agree i mean we have been told that we are suppose to die already like five times in the last decade. so this is old news haha.

It's one of those stupid myths that because enough people talk about it, it must be true (2012, not the sun packing up on billions of years)... and in a national newspaper too

Perhaps that island in the Canaries that is 'imminently' (as in the next millenium or so) expected to fall into the sea and send a massive wall of water across the Atlantic is more alarming... Even though one poor quality redtop paper said "the water will race across the Atlantic at the speed of light..."(!)

I don't think planet "Earth" itself will end anytime soon...Unless, we end it ourselves...Or we poison it to the degree that WE cannot live on it.

I personally think that, There's a cycle...We'll all eventually die out once we've finished poisoning the place, or, the rest of us will go and "Discover" some other planets, and we'll all move over there...

Millions of years later, someone says "Wow, Look what I've discovered"....And we'll all end up back here. By then, there won't be any trace of (Our) Existance...I believe the planet just "Cleans" itself, or, species just evolve to live in the conditions that we have now...

Might sound far fetched - But how can we say the earth is "Millions of years old and a "Big Bang" made it all" - Now, that, is far fetched...

Everyone knows that the world was made by a bloke called Slarty Bartfast. If you ask some Norwegian members here they can see his signature on Fjords in Norway.

Of course! he Vogons are coming to visit to watch the Olympics.

Or perhaps civilisation WILL die out in 2012... Britain might win more golds than China and Russia and everyone in the world dies of shock.

Yes Dr T. I've actually used that once to diffuse an arguement with an acutely large gentleman who wanted to turn my head inside out. I made a fool out of him in front of his wife/girlfriend/escort/pros...lets not go there.

He didn't understand it until she, and friends starting laughing at him and he sulked off. Thank God as he would have got (his) blood on my shirt.

Douglas Adams had a brilliant mind. Rich though- which is why he died 'for tax reasons'.

Terry, did you read Dirk Gently? I know one of the books was better than the other... I think we all know someone with characteristics like Dirk.
