They are sure it won't hit earth, but don't yet know which side of the sun it will pass by... :-\

Think about it... We are so unsure about its path that we don't know which side of the sun it will pass... but we are sure it won't hit earth.

EDIT: On the subject of asteroids, has anyone read the book 'Rendezvouz with Rama...' now THAT would be interesting
Perhaps even WM wouldn't be bored by it :o

Because this indicated to me that you thought the subject less than awe-inspiring. But in the interests of avoiding offence (as if I would)
