I dropped my last phone in the engine room bilge, we were draining the boiler at the time so it was too hot for me to reach in and get it. Pulled it out after 2 hours, washed it in clean water, dried it, charged it and it worked...

for 2 weeks.

I was quite surprised.

It's strange, i would be totally lost now without my phone and my interwebz, but when i first went to sea (not that long ago) the only way to stay in touch was by letters which had to be posted at least 2 weeks in advance to have any chance of being received onboard unless you were on a regular run.
