Has anyone else eaten an apple and thought, 'this tastes like a banana' ?

Because the one I'm eating now definitely tastes like a banana.

But I didn't come here to talk about banana-flavoured apples, as interesting as they are.

In the screenshot below, you can see all of the file formats I can open. Does anyone know how to turn .skp Sketchup files into one of these formats? (ignore the bottom one)

My problem is that Fred attempted to make Xplorer (http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,15920.0.html), but doesn't think it looks right (i can't fault it, I don't know what he's on about), so I said I'd have a crack at it. I have Sketchup, and it looks fine:

However, me and SU don't really like each other, so I use a professional program called Solidworks. I downloaded an addon for Solidworks (the only such addon I could find) and tried to open the model. It crashed a few times, but it finally worked and promptly beheaded the good ship Xplorer:

So, I need a way of SU saving the files in a format that Solidworks can use.

HELP ME!!!!

Maybe someone with SU Pro, could save it in a format that your program can open.

Hi McGherkin,

Check your email!

P.S. you may do with this whatever you like, I'm not using it, so you might aswell consider it yours to do with as you see fit.. it was an old hull I tried to make off lineplans using delftship..  so it's not like I spend months connecting up all the lines like with some of my stuff. If you can make it work somehow, by all means go for it!  :2thumbs:

Right, last night Fred sent me Xplorer in two formats, and I am now opening her. However, it's taking a long time to open and I suspect that it will have thousands of workplanes :o

Fingers Crossed!!!

EDIT: It's now saying that the model has umpteen million faces, and the program may break down in despair. Do you want to skip those faces? I clicked No.

Good luck with that, lol.

My only problem right now, is that it is 3am, and I really have to pee. But the toilet is loud, lol.

It' a professional CAD program developed for industrial use. Needless to say, it's probably very expensive, but my school has it on an unlimited user license, and, since they were giving copies away, I got a copy and installed it on my laptop.

It's easier to use than Sketchup, and has loads of features, for example a program for testing flow resistance through a tube, which means you can do all that techy aerodynamics like in F1.

It's also got an awesome render maker, so good it makes renders like this:

Unfortunately it uses stupid file formats...
